Double Fine Adventure console-exclusive to Ouya

Double Fine Adventure will come to just one console during its launch window – the Android-based, crowd-funded Ouya, according to CEO Julie Uhrman.

Uhrman made the announcement during a talk at DICE Summit 2013, as reported by Joystiq.

Kotaku later clarified that the announcement didn’t mention whether the game would debut simultaneously or even ahead of time on PC, Mac and Linux, as suggested in its record-breaking Kickstarter campaign. It also didn’t rule out the possibility of coming to other consoles later on.

Double Fine Adventure is a fitting release for Ouya; the Tim Schafer project is credited with beginning the Kickstarter movement which dominated news during 2012, and Ouya itself was Kickstarted for over $8 million.

In addition to Double Fine Adventure, the developer is bringing existing titles The Cave and Reds to Ouya.

Meanwhile, Verse is working on two titles for the new console; the studio is led by Paul Bettner, who created the phenomenally popular Words With Friends.

“Ouya and Verse are nothing less than The Return Of Console Gaming. The last big wave was mobile. Words With Friends is the most played game across all mobile platforms,” Bettner. said

“And yet I believe we’re about to see another disruption even bigger than this last. Gamers want the App Store in their living room. Ouya will be the first to deliver it, and it’s going to change everything. Again.”

Reds is the codename for Double Fine Adventure. The article makes it sound like it's another project.

I'm SCREAMING at the hyperbole mess.

Are any relevant console devs like EA, Ubisoft working on this?

I hope it's at least given a closed release on PC for its Kickstarter backers. It'd be a bit of a bummer if they had to wait until people who happened to have an Ouya (it'd be like it's really benefitting the Ouya backers rather than the DFA backers).

This shit better not come out on the Ouya first. I backed it expecting a PC game and it pisses me off that they would possibly focus more on a version that requires a Tegra 3 based console for another $100.

I like that there will be more than the 3 typical consoles out there, but they're really trying to hype the Ouya as more than the niche console it will become. Not that it's gonna fail, but rather it can live comfortably as a specific console for a specific audience.

Saying it's gonna change everything or whatever just isn't true, especially when the games that'll come out will also be on other higher user base things like PCs and mobile devices.

The fact that Double Fine leaves it open that it might (will) come out on the other consoles just shows that.

Exclusive FF game incoming? :3

I go anywhere Square goes (unless its mobile games)

FF3 at this stage. The iOS/DS version.

I backed a PC game

I expect a PC game

Do not play around with this, Schafer

also, maybe I'm misunderstanding something, but wasn't an Android version already announced? Is an Ouya game fundamentally different?

I really don't think we see that much Double Fine games on traditional home consoles in the future. I think it's pretty obvious they prefer open platforms.

If by non-traditional home consoles you mean Wii U and OUYA, yes. There have been a ton of indie supporters for the Wii U so far, and Double Fine has been quite enthusiastic about it.

I've been meaning to play The Cave, so this are pretty good news for me. Reds seems like a fun time, too.

I can't wait to get one. It looks perfect for my needs as a mobile console, and I can keep testing my game in other resolutions. The controller looks a bit strange, but if it sucks, I'll get a DualShock3.

Good luck to them. I'll believe it when I see it.

I don't see how The Cave will even run on the thing without significant graphical downgrades.
