Fans of the “Dark Universe,” a.k.a. “Justice League Dark,” comics are going to have to wait a bit longer for the film adaptation, as it just lost its director.

Sources tell Variety that director Doug Liman has left the project. Insiders say the reason is schedule-related, as Liman is also attached to direct Lionsgate’s “Chaos Walking,” which recently received a greenlight. Sources say the studio has already started meeting with other directors and should have a replacement for Liman lined up shortly.

Warner Bros., the studio behind the adaptation, had no comment.

Still want a Detective Chimp movie.

Liman is great but he's just a few steps above GDT when it comes to his projects actually getting off the ground lol. Not surprised.

I am so shocked that this production is going nowhere.

Lol exactly. This and the Cyborg solo film have the same stink that the Inhumans film had when Marvel first announced that. Some of these projects you can just tell ain't happening anytime soon.

I'm actually glad about this. I like Liman, but this material never seemed in his wheelhouse and he's known for long, messy shoots/production schedules, which is obviously something the DCEU should avoid at this point.

James Wan would be perfect, of course, but if they don't want to wait for him then maybe go with Fede Alvarez.

That's a shame seeing as how Liman seemed legitimately excited to do it. Maybe if the movie never gets going he can come back after that Chaos movie

Will it still be called Dark Universe now that Universal called their monster universe Dark Universe?

Ah, who cares, this movie will not get made anyway

You can see that in the article that this was a scheduling issue lol. He's taken up like 3 projects after signing on for Dark Universe. They're already lining up replacement directors.

Allegedly Warners is eyeing Andrés Muschietti to replace him (Mama, upcoming It). I'd be into it. Still wishing Fede Alvarez was back on the table.

You say this like DC hasn't had massive issues with losing directors before.

You say this like the article didn't explicitly state the reason he left....

Like c'mon now lol.
Come on now what? This is yet another director that DC has lost, I honestly can't keep track of how many it's been by now, there's nothing normal about this.

Oh I'm sure they are. And I'm sure it'll sit around in limbo like it has been for the last couple years. Gotham City Sirens? Suicide Squad follow up? Those they'll be motivated to get done. I have a hard time imagining this project finding its legs before The Flash does.

There are tons of these comic movies that cycle through directors and make no headway. Like that Gambit solo movie Fox wants so bad. Actually, didn't this dude leave that project to be on this? Lol

Wow lol, Liman was just out there the other day talking about how excited he was about it. Sounds like WB is making things extremely hard to get these movies going. They really need to just take a step back and let some of these properties speak for themselves before joining in on the over arching universe.

Sad to see this happen again, especially since this was the one film I was looking forward to the most.

Are you foregoing all context and the actual reason that he left in this. It's as simple as WB wants him to actually be AVAILABLE for the film. He's picked up like more than 3 projects since he's signed on. It became clear that he won't be able to do it in the timeframe that WB wants so he walked off.

I'm looking at this with the context that the DCU is a dumpster fire that loses directors every other week and has a bunch of projects in limbo. This is yet another case of the DCU being the DCU.

Alright. I think we're done here.

He has been attached to like 12 projects including that often delayed gambit lol

Something was bound to lose him soon.

Thought he was kind of a lame choice for this anyways. They should go to a horror guy for this and focus on making it extremely atmospheric

Like that Hellboy reboot coming up which sounds so right with Neil Marshall and the r rating
