Downsampling for AMD cards is now possible

I tried this but my modetimingoverride registry key ends in 56 which seems to be for DVI.

How does someone get this to work for HDMI?? I'm using a Toshiba 1080P 60hz TV.

Not sure about the GUI on Windows 8, but the GUI won't work with 13.12 drivers. If you want to use the GUI you have to go back to 13.6 or something.
 
any way to increase monitor frequency? I can downsample from 1920/1080 to 2560/1440 with CRU but monitor just goes out of range (60hz)

edit: got it to work by changing horizontal frequency (never read it anywhere in a guide) to 60 and now it works

using the 13.1 beta drivers with my R9 280X

Yeah the GUI program failed since sometime around 12 something. So we had no DS for a while, then the germans came back with a regedit hack. Let me find the link.

If you don't completely clean your driver updates with like DUI or Atiman (ie you keep your registry) you don't have to re-do this every driver update.
 
It felt like I fluked it the first time I got it, but just followed your steps then and it was easy-peasy. I also took the liberty of backing up the reg key after I did it.

I know if I use DDU that key will go, but if I install a newer/different Catalyst, will it still be in the same path of the registry or under a different GUID?

I did AMD's normal uninstall and reinstall of a new driver and my resolution was still there, so as far as I can tell it sticks.

It's a bit subjective. DS'ing from 1440p will give you better image quailty and less performance hit than taking on AA. It's worth it.

I would support this. Shadowplay and Downsampling are the only 2 things keeping me tied to Nvidia at the moment. Physx has become kind of irrelivant these days and their driver releases over the past 6 months or so have been disappointing.

I'd welcome further competition. The way I see it, Nvidia need a kick up the arse, especially with their pricing at the moment.

Awesome awesome. Tried doing this months ago with zero luck, this reg hack did the trick. Though oddly my monitor is saying it's 61hz... nothing wrong graphically though so I'll just ignore it for the time being.

Honestly, I thought the messages/queries from sites like Guru3D would've been enough of a catalyst (ha!) to get that stuff in. Hopefully this gets some kind of ball rolling!

I actually had to comment in the conversation too. I think AMD GPUs would be better for downsampling because of higher bus width / bandwidth, so it seems a little silly that they don't have it, especially since the 290 (x) is geared towards higher than 1080p resolution, so that power should be usable with downsampling. If they added support for it, I'd probably go red in a heartbeat.

Yup, seems pretty obvious to me - hope they can add something soon.
It's also a selling point for the enthusiasts like us, so it's a win-win.
 
I would love it if AMD got downsampling. I was actually considering buying an NVidia GPU just because I get jelly looking at screenshots of their games being downsampled from 1800p.

I tried the method in this thread awhile ago and had it working but then my PC BSOD'd and upon starting it it would boot to a gray screen. For whatever reason I can't restart my Windows in 640x480 to change it, so I had to do all kinds of crap to get it working again.
 
A response from an actual AMD representative is great but based on my experience with the VP of sales at the company I work for, he'll say anything he thinks you want to hear! He's like King Salesman. :P
 
Holy crap, this is insane. Just tried it with the settings above for the Dell and it's pretty impressive. BF4 drops from 60fps to about 50-55fps but everything else is pretty sweet.

Does this hack need to be done every time drivers are updated?

Only if you do an extensive wipe like using DDUI. It you just uninstall and re-install drivers or install over top you should be fine. (if you used the regedit hack)
 
Having a problem and I'm wondering if you guys can help me figure it out:

I recently got a new monitor, a ViewSonic VX2370Smh-LED IPS. I also had to get a new DVI cable since this one only shipped with HDMI. That finally arrived today, so I got it hooked up excited to do downsampling again, but when I set anything to the new res the monitor loses the signal.

I'm aware that non-dual link and knock off DVI cables do not have the bandwidth necessary to DS, so I picked a more expensive monocable DVI-D cable that I was pretty confident would be sufficient, especially since the generic one I got with my last monitor 6 years ago worked just fine with DS. I'm hopeful that that isn't the issue.

I'm going to do a total driver sweep and start over incase that might be an issue. Not really sure what other info to give. Any suggestions?

FIXED: The driver sweep did take care of it.

When I'm playing a game on Monitor 1, how do I go about having the windows (Firefox for example) on monitor 2 stay where they are? When I have FF on secondary, it's cut off unless I actually tab back to the desktop.

Would I have to solve this by putting both desktop resolutions above 1080? It's the only reason why I haven't bothered to reinstall the hack after I did a clean install of 8.1. Sorry for the poor explanation.
 
well playing with the soundbar I messed it up and I have lost my @2560x1440p configuration and now I can't make it work in Windows 7. I think it's due to the monitor (tv) drivers, because when I switch the resolution to 2560x1440 I get the the error message reporting Windows couldn't change to that resolution, plus the Hide modes section in the advanced options for the monitor is greyed out

If the game is set to fullscreen, all bets are off.

The only real solution would be setting games to fullscreen windowed/borderless window which can be hit or miss with games supporting it.

We'll never get anything if we don't ask though. I've toyed with the idea of writing something up myself, but it's both the case that I've never written something like that, and I dunno how many people are truly interested in such a feature. Personally, it's one of the main features that interests me in GPUs.

If you find the tweet now, I have a few comments on it. I still kinda have my doubts that much will come of it. In my wildest dreams though, I'd also like if they added a resolution scale like BF4 (or something else to prevent shrinking UI).
 
Anybody have the registry values for 2720x1700? Or is there an explanation on how you determine these values on your own?
 
I've tried multiple number combinations but nothing is working for my 1440p monitor. Probably something with timings, hopefully someone will put out some settings!
