Thought we'd try something different.

Anyone following this show? I only seen a few episodes of the original series, but I am loving the new show.

Week 6 is on tonight at 7pm UTC on BBC One, for those not in the know.

Daleks make their first appearance in the new show tonight.

Since this is an out of market show, I will add my comments after I download it. :(

I've been rather enjoying the new show, though last week's episode with the fart aliens was a definite low point. Seems like all the Doctor Who fans have totally flip-flopped from cautious optimism to "This show is a total piece of shit". I don't really understand why, though.

I was really looking forward this episode all week, just finished watching it and I liked the first 30 mins until Dalek went all human and lost all it appeal. I love the Dalek just cause it wants to kill everything in site and doesn’t give a shit about anything and they managed to take the one thing most people love about the Dalek away. They made it seem human and gave it stupid emotions!!!

Judging my me and Cockles (the only other Doc Who fan I know on this board) having the same opinion each week I am sure he wont be happy about the episode.

End Of The World is still the only episode I was 100% impressed by...

Well there is always next week (again!)

Too fucking right Keyser.

Not a bad episode...just completely medicore. Ecclestone really showed his acting chops in this episode, unfortuantly it was in the scenes where he was COMPLETELY NOT-Dr Who. Thin racist. Compare that to Davision and Baker's scenes where they have the chance to destroy the Daleks. I adored the Cyberman helmet scene - very poingant.

It wasn't the emotive Dalek that annoyed me.

It was the way it got emotive.
Rose touches it's casing, it samples her DNA...and the next thing it's regenerating itself but with Rose's 'tainted' human DNA....what utter fucking bullshit science-fiction
. The production team forgot the one reason why people love the Daleks - they don't have any grey areas to be bargained with...they are programmed to be EVIL!!! This episode did for the Daleks what I-Borg did for the Borg. DOH!!!!!

Direction and music followed the trend of the series...fucking awful.

That's it. I've given up on 'new Dr Who' now. I'll download the rest of the episodes through BitTorrent - won't bother to rush home on Sat evenings to watch. :(

A crashing disappointment. For fuck sake BBC - get someone, ANYONE who can direct exciting drama to a competant degree as seen in most US drama. Funny thing is, they already have the people - guys who work on Hustle, which I'm loving at the moment - pisses all over Dr Who. Sooner Russell T Davies gets the boot the better.

I have a weird feeling I will end up loving Doc Who next season or the season after (if it lasts that long)

Every Sci-fi show I love now had a terrible first season (Stargate, Enterprise, Buffy, Angel, Farscape[kinda] Deep Space Nine, The Next Generation)

Soon they will throw out ths stuff that is making it crap and the good will float to the top (hopefully)

Hey, you cynical bastards really need to stop watching it. It's obviously not for you.

I love it. I thought Battlestar whateveritis was a big pile of shite. Different strokes, et al.

Well there you go. Different stroke indeed.

I ADORE new Battlestar, I'd happily be Ron Moores anal rent-boy for the fantastic new-gen series of the show he's given us. And it's probably new BS that's made new Dr Who look so ropey and inadquate for me.

Cockles, it was the last Dalek in existance, of course it was always destined to end that way. Let's not forget that Doctor Who can time travel, ie. to before this happened. I'm sure there'll be episodes in future that has swarms of evil daleks hell bent on killing everything in sight.

I liked this episode, it really portrayed how dangerous a Dalek is via everyone's reactions. Think of the kids that didn't see the older Doctor Whos, they've just been introduced to Daleks and they focussed on a single one to convey just how dangerous they are. So later when they show armies of them, children are going to 'get' just how bad a thing that is.

I loved Battlestar and I am also loving parts of Doc Who. I also know they can make it better they just have to focus more on what Doc Who is and limit the jokes and stupid charcters they are introducing.

Most of the Dalek epsiode was good, but they turned the Dalek into something it should not be near the end which is unforgivable and runied the episode for me.

On the other hand if they ever did an episde with 1000's of Daleks wheeling down the streets of London or New York blowing everything to shit I would jump up and kiss the TV :)

downloading it right now.. only episode I happened to see of DrW2005 was the gas aliens/charles dickens one... and you know.. I can say I enjoyed it.. I didn't feel obligated or forced to finish it.. not amazing (see BSG for that definition) but certainly as good as current non-BSG/SG1 sci-fi on TV. will catch up on the other episodes.

I thought the episode was pretty good -- particularly Eccleston's acting. I really liked the Dalek voice too.

it was ok. I don't get the whole ' but your race was destroyed' thing - if that happened then what causes all the other dalek stories in Doctor who?

and I laughed at the "mmm, Dalek must show emotion but has no eyes. I know! we can makes its head stick thing go down, that'll make it look sad" - Luxo Jr. it ain't.

Well the Daleks do appear in another episode this series so maybe that'll give the fans what they want

I really enjoyed it. Oddly enough, the wife who hates many and maybe most things sci-fi also likes it.

I also think Billie Piper is pretty attractive. so sue me. :p

The Daleks and the Time Lords were destroyed in the Time Wars that have been referenced in a handful of episodes. Both races were excised from time (with the exception of the Doctor, of course). The other Dalek stories in Doctor Who, therefore, retroactively didn't happen.

Okay, that doesn't seem to make any sense....

Well Jabe the Tree from EOTW recognises the Dr and the defeat of the Timelords, which she wouldn't have been able to do if they'd been completely removed from existance. I can only assume in the Doctor's case that he pulled off the same trick the 'watcher' used in Logopolis - take the TARDIS to a place outside of space/time where it wouldn't be subject to the effects of the war. As the Dalek said "The Coward survives".

but ignoring the bigger picture for the moment...

It doesn't make sense that the Doctor, who has fought the Daleks on Earth and in modern times, knows that all Daleks were wiped out in a great time war, presumably before all this TV lark started, as they are the reasoning behind the lonely doctor doing his rounds?

Just watched the episode The Long Game. This was another good one, better than the Dalek ep and almost as good as The End of The World. It was nice to see Simon Pegg playing the bad guy.

I'm letting the latest Doctor Who episode play in the background while I work, and I just caught something I thought was amusing as someone who is only a passing fan:

The Dalek
is moving up a flight of stairs!
This is blowing my mind! :lol

The start of The Long Game had a great line that made me wish Eccleston wasn't bailing. "He's your boyfriend" gave me a smile and there's actual chemistry going on. In the back of my mind though I know he's bailing so its all sort of bittersweet.
