I hear people saying "Maybe for the anime's 30th anniversary, they'll reanimate it!" or something. Milk the franchise even more, you know?

Well, earlier this year Daisuke Gouri took his own life. I still can't picture anyone else voicing Mr. Satan. Takeshi Aono recently had a stroke, leaving the role of Kami-sama in the air. A great number of secondary character's voice actors have passed away recently as well, too many to number really.

What I'm getting at, is the cast isn't getting any younger. Masako Nozawa is 73, Toshio Furukawa is 64, Norio Wakamoto is 64, Ryusei Nakao is 59, and a good chunk of the main cast is in their early to mid fifties, including Mayumi Tanaka and Ryo Horikawa.

I really think Toei fucked up here. These legendary voice actors aren't gonna be here forever, and I don't think I'd be able to stand a new Japanese Goku, Vegeta, Freeza or Kuririn, regardless of brand spanking new animation. I already mentioned that I'm already having a hard time picturing a new Mr. Satan.

At that point, I'd probably watch the dub. Seriously ._.

However, a new series with Goku Jr. and Vegeta Jr. would be fun I think. Obviously Toriyama wouldn't be involved in the story, but I think they can do a fairly good job with it.

As for DB vs. Naruto, I'd imagine that worldwide DragonBall is still ahead. DB has a lot more merchandise that gets put out around the world. Naruto's fanbase really does seem to be concentrated almost entirely in English speaking countries, and Japan (where it's no where close to DB). If this isn't the case, once more international broadcasters pick up Kai, I certainly expect it will be.

Help me figure out how I should re-watch the dub...

I've been watching/enjoying Kai and it's making me want to re-watch the dub with filler too since the Kai blu-ray's are releasing too slowly.

-Dragon box will mess with my nostalgia.
-Can't afford to buy the out of print Pioneer and FUNimation DVD's right now. I'll get them later this year.
-Orange cropped bricks from Netflix.

I personally loved my orange brick boxes. The music I remember, and even though it was cropped, I dug the widescreen ratio. Not only that, the animation quality was a lot cleaner than I remember, too. Plus they're cheap and definitely the most bang (episodes) for your buck.

Also, I completely disagree with what FUNimation did with the Dragon Boxes regarding the dub they included. Either save space by not including a dub at all, or cater to both audiences by including the original dub with the Japanese version. I'd say approximately 1% of the DBZ fanbase cares about the English cast with Japanese music.

Hell, at least the original dub is nostalgic for most fans of the Japanese version.

Kai premiered on "Toonzai on CW4Kids" this morning. Apparently they made farmer with a shot gun, into farmer with a lazer. I approve. They also apparently made their own next episode preview in a comic book style. Sounds kind of cool, but I'd have to see it first.

FUNimation DVDs

As of 2000, FUNimation had released uncut versions of their Texas-based English dub on to DVD, with Japanese language track, and English-translation subtitles. This release doesn't include the first two sagas, as the rights for the distribution of that episodes were still held by Pioneer Entertainment. These DVDs begin with the Captain Ginyu saga, and contain every episode covering (Japanese numbers) 68 till 291. Boxsets were release for the Garlic Jr., Androids, Imperfect Cell, Perfect Cell, World Tournament, Majin Buu, Fusion, and Kid Buu U.S. sagas. However, in order to maximize profits, the DVDs were released out of continuity (certain amounts of one section of the series were released, and then FUNimation would go back and release others). With no noticeable numbering visible, this caused frustration to those trying to follow the series from start to finish.

The special is about some evil scientist who seeks revenge on all the Saiyans of the world for destroying his home planet. To get revenge he places these machines across the globe that slowly drains the Earth's life force. Eventually the good Dr. makes some what clones of previous DragonBall villians such as Tullece, and Frieza and shit hits the fan.

I honestly can't remember what happened to the part when big red/Hatichyak shows up.

Toei Philiphines bro. Very little of Toei's work is actually done in Japan anymore.

It does match the quality of the original special, as it had very awkward animation as well (awkward in movement that is).

Edit: BTW, Byakuya, I kind of find it funny rewatching the Ginyu eps in Kai: When you think about it, Ginyu was actually stronger than Goku was, and would have gotten weaker by switching bodies, even if he got fully used to it. Goku was using the Kaioken when he fought Ginyu. That means goku's base power was actually 90,000 , which was less than Ginyu's 120,000. Ginyu owned himself. :lol

also: Goku is so cheap through the entirity of DBZ up through when he transforms it is unbelievable when you think about it.

"Hey, I'm outmatched. But I can double my power! Triple! Quadruple! x10! x20! HURRRRRRRR"

Actually when you think about it, the only time Goku actually surpasses vegeta for good in strength is after he trains with gohan in the HTC. Before that, Goku is stronger than vegeta:

#1: When he lands on Namek and takes on the Ginyu Force.
#2: After transforming into a SSJ, while Vegeta hasn't.

Vegeta seemed to be close in power to Frieza's first form after being healed by the senzu bean, and far outmatched Picollo and most likely Frieza's 2nd and 3rd forms after being healed by Dende.

It is really ridiculous how much the series makes Vegeta play second fiddle even when he is far stronger than Goku for the vast majority of the story :lol Any other time Goku appears stronger than Vegeta is because of a technique that allows him to multiply his power by ridiculous factors.

I forget what th official power level for Goku was at that time, but if Vegeta once healed by the senzu bean was stronger than base form Frieza, then shouldn't he have been 4x as strong as Goku even with his Kaio-Ken - right?

So why was Vegeta so freaked seeing Goku fight? Just a really big plot-hole?

His body is damaged, and he heals. Via NEAR DEATH RECOVERY POWER UP, he emerges with a power level of...

3,000,000

A 16.6x increase.

There's no way Vegeta after getting healed from Ginyu Force fight was stronger than first form Freeza. If he was so sure of himself, he wouldn't have brought up teaming up with Kuririn and Gohan to take down Freeza. Also, after his brief power struggle with Freeza, he was clearly out of breath, while Freeza still had his composure as if nothing happened.

I'm pretty sure Goku would have fucked up Freeza's first form (at the very least) when he landed on Namek.

Either that, or his "SAIYANS GET STRONGER AFTER RECOVERING FROM NEAR DEATH" power-up gave him one hell of an increase in strength :lol

He would have to use at least a Kaioken x6 to keep up with Freeza if Freeza got serious in that form. I'm sure Freeza would be smart enough to transform before Goku totally beats him anyway.

When Goku used the kaio-ken against Ginyu, I don't think he was using his full power, was he? I thought it was a kaio-ken x 1?

I agree that the power jump with Vegeta after the Recoome fight was strange as shit.

Vegeta on Earth fully powered up: 18,000
Vegeta when landing on Namek: 24,000
Vegeta after the Zarbon fight: Somewhere around 30,000.
Vegeta after Recoome fight: 500,000+?!?!??!!

But what's even worse than that little instance, is with Piccolo.

Piccolo when he died against Nappa: ~3,000
Piccolo after he had 6 days of training on King Kai's planet: ???
Nail at full power: 42,000
Piccolo + Nail: 1,000,000+? :lol :lol :lol
