Q: I've heard Toriyama has a direct role into your work, right?

T: Not only mine: he supervises every storyboard related to the Dragon Ball universe.

So I guess Toriyama supervises the anime storyboards?

Bird studio is sent everything, they approve it. I'm assuming they approve the trivial things without notifying Toriyama, and whenever there's designs or important story stuff they just ask him directly, then send it back to Toei.

Toshio said on Twitter when talking about a staff meeting about future episodes that Toriyama is invloved in his work. He didn't specify if Toriyama is part of these meetings or not, but I guess Toriyama is involved in the planning process a bit more than just his outlines and designs.
Also Toshio said that he didn't write episode 88, it was a mistake in the credits and Fukushima actually wrote it.

Isn't Bird Studio literally just Toriyama and an assistant?

The statement from Toriyama about the anime Trunks arc, regarding how he hadn't seen the storyboards yet kind of implied he sometimes sees them. The issue is that considering the timing of that statement there's no way he saw the Trunks' arc storyboards on time for any kind of change.

He also could be talking about the other manga, although that's kind of weird, and if Toriyama had any role at all in the Heroes manga and Dragonball SD you'd think they'd have advertised it.

I am gonna listen to Toyotaro and also read the latest chapter of his manga where he said he'd be spoiling stuff about the ToP arc

oh wait

If you mean the place where he works, maybe ? I have no idea who works there currently besides him.

But as an entity, not from what I heard. At the very least there are people handling the coordination of information from games, anime etc... to Bird Studio, and they are considered to be working for them. It's possible they changed it or they became assimilated by the Dragon Room. I heard that years ago from Bandai.

I'm wondering how much more Toriyama is now involved. "Competent animator" ? Has Toriyama helped with new designs for the animation teams maybe ? Certainly not for this current arc.

He's saying three different things, Akira Toriyama, the directors of Super and the animators. He's Japanese so plurals are going to be left out.

I dont know if I agree with that. I fell off TFS when it started to just feel like DBZ with gay jokes and memes inserted.
The only abridgments I like these days are one's that shred the original, like None Piece, Weeklytubeshow, and pokemon bridged.

There aren't that many gay jokes in Season 3, especially compared to Season 2. And Abridge has been meme since its creation since it made by hardcore fans who dumped every fandom idea into the show.

In my opinion, characters are at their funnies when you can sit through a joke and say 'yeah, I can imagine them saying or doing something like that'. 16's Goku obsession is funny because of that. The same with almost everything that comes out of 17, 18, and Cell's mouth. Abridge Vegeta is funny because he's Vegeta taken to his logical conclusion.

So, um, Wired Italy has a new interview with Toyotaro... and um... spoilers.
Q: Tell us something about the upcoming Dragon Ball Super arc.

A: I can only say this: do not think you already know the definitive teams for the upcoming Tournament of Power. Even if they have been already revealed".
I hope he's talking out his ass...

I wonder who's on the choppy block. My bet goes to Buu, yet again. We have to keep the running gag of him being the load alive! Plus, that would explain why he had an entire episode to fight while Gohan and Goku got only half.

If I had a second bet, I am leaning towards Roshi.

For the sake of it, maybe it's Goku. Maybe they will pull a Xenoverse Champa Saga on his:
Goku was late and the Time Patrol had to fill in for him until he arrived.

Given how production works, it is plausible that Toriyama worked on the storyboards and looked at the sketches for approval, but not seen the final produce. As a designer, I can easily go through several drafts before reaching the final produce that the client may not even see until the day the order is needed.

Huh? Buu vs Basil wasn't any longer than Gohan vs Lavender or Goku vs Bergamo.

I don't know if it was from a Dragon Ball era movie or Dragon Ball era canon arc, but I watched this moment where Krillin, Yamcha, Tenshinhan and Chiaotzu protected a village from a volcano eruption. The heroes did things like fire ki blasts into the mountain side to alter the path of the lava. I feel Super has returned to having moments like this (where everything isn't always about a one on one fight with the big bad of the arc), but what really hit me the most was that this scene starred Krillin, Yamcha, Tenshinhan and Chiaotzu. They were the crew. Goku was their leader. There was a time those 4 would be the ones Goku would show up to a fight with.

The ToP arc is doing right by including Krillin, Tenshinhan and Roshi on the team. I'm grateful Super has made efforts to make Piccolo more capable to fight with the Super Saiyans and for the inclusion more of the human Z Fighters are getting

Buu fight was all of Episode 79. Gohan's fight was about half an episode and the rest was about the mortal level. Goku's fight was also about half an episode and the rest was the tournament rules. So, Buu had an entire episode and small part of Episode 78 giving him the longest fight overall.

So if they were to cut Buu, he had least go out on a great showing, compared to anyone else that isn't Gohan and Goku.

Buu's ended at around the 18 minute mark, Gohan's at the 16 minute mark and Goku's at the 15 minute mark, Buu's fight wasn't really much longer.

But if the exhibition was a Toei addition and Buu doesn't make the cut then I do think they probably gave Buu a win there to soften the blow.
I'm really getting the feeling now that the running joke with Yamcha will actually end with him showing up when they need someone to replace Buu (maybe fighting in the exhibition followed by his training resulted in him going into hibernation or something) and he is the final member.

I dont mean it became more about that, I mean it became that for me. The novelty wore off between season 2 and 3 for me and thats what I was left with. Also the fact new content is here now, and so it doesn't even have the nostalgia factor going for it, for me anyway.

That looks fantastic. Prefer both Vegeta and Goku's outfits with the blue swapped out for black

Huh. Maybe all of the
scenes showing Yamcha wonder about being included in the Tournament of Power are building up to him unexpectedly getting included into it

I see, fair enough.

I am not the biggest fan of Abridged either mostly because I don't like a lot of their characterizations from the early season. Like I despised their Gohan, Krillin, and Denda, although I will give them credit for making Cell far more interesting than the original work. And they have jokes that literally have me in tears, like their version of Androids 13's nut shot to Goku.

But I do agree that the novelty of fan work doesn't appeal to me as much since I have Super. For all its flaws, I take Super over any fan work I have read. Super just feels like Toriyama with an extra bit of maturity to me.

Vegeta: YEA, SURE, FINE BABE. Is beerus here?

Hahaha episode 15 en 16 are amazing in the dub as well

Edit: omg the food part hahah. He calls the eggs weaklings

I like the Yamcha line but that one had me thinking stop trying so hard to be Tfs Funi.

I maintain they ripped a bit off Weekly's take on Cell. Even the perfect song is kind of a lifted joke... Though Weeklytubeshow removed the vid of it.
But yeah. More than anythiny, Super is funnier than TFS for me. Thats the nail in the coffin

Funi has been putting off-cut lines like that long before TFS was a thing. Where do you think TFS get most of their material?

As for funnier, since Dragon Ball started as a gag manga, a lot of the characters are naturally humorous. TFS just exaggerated a lot of aspects. Like Abridged Goku is what the fandom think Goku is like. And before someone says it, Super Goku even at his worst is no where near Abridge Goku.

The statement from Toriyama about the anime Trunks arc, regarding how he hadn't seen the storyboards yet.

Wrong. He said he hadn't seen he ending storyboards and that's because they hadn't been finished yet. That interview was even before the Trunks arc started. Trunks arc ran 5 months. It's perfectly logical to assume the final storyboards for the arc had not been drawn yet.

I thought he said he didn't see the final script.

Can some post the original statement?

It was actually the script, which would need to be changed even earlier than storyboards.

Even I haven’t checked the final script yet.

And "final script" in that sense isn't talking about the script of the final episodes, but the finished script (完全な - Perfected/Completed).

Goku kills Gohan in ep 90 confirmed

:(

Someone brought up a good point on Kanzenshuu.
In the ending we see the team in a bunch of action shots, but then it goes to Buu

Looks like he might be sleeping.

I fucking hate Toriyama sometimes.

If Buu is shafted again I will be very upset, especially after we got slim Buu

Buu got a great fight in the prelims so if he gets pulled I honestly wouldn't mind. Now if like, Piccolo gets it then I'm gonna riot

kind of disappointed that in both the U6 tourney and now, the Kaiohshins have failed to notice that Fat Buu has a Kaiohshin absorbed

imagine the grand priest going....waaait a minute...is that a fucking kaiohshin inside you, participant Buu? ok fuck this, U7 is getting erased right now

So I've been wondering, does the staff working on Dragon Ball Super normally talk to their non-japanese speaking fans?

Cause I noticed it was an earlier tweet that was posted of his that he talked about International fans probably will be happy to see Ultimate Gohan again.

Kind of thought they didn't really ever think of us. Not that I presume Toriyama does.

I hope we get to see some sick magetta fights, I love the noises he makes lol

Also looked like u6 was gonna have a second metal man from some image I forget lol
