He was originally meant to be close to 70% of Beerus strength. They did away with that but still kept all the moments Beerus was seemingly struggling through the match. Usually you don't see someone heavily holding back behaving like Beerus did during that battle.

Yeah but not in a long time. Usually, characters that became irrelevant just won't get new relevant card. The last time Gohan was relevant in Dokkan Battle was with his Ultimate form. That is for it's adult counterpart of course. There's a reason why SSJ2 is the most relevant one, to the point it got a LR card.
If they want to make a shiton, they'll need a new form/new outfit.
Chichi will have a heart attack and give Videl a lecture on how to be a good wife. #1 rule: no training allowed.

It's crazy to me that near the release of an episode that returned Gohan to form and possibly forever soured Tien's view in the eyes of many DB fans, we had a thread in OT about Gohan's fall from grace and another thread centered on Tien being the strongest earthling

I think Super us just more kid friendly and that ultimately hurts it.
Even the new movies are tame and rely on humor compared to Z stuff.

He's got several men in him! NOT LIKE THAT. As such, he can definitely manage to get super crazy stronger and then some. Definitely should be able to get up to SSB and possibly beyond, if allowed. Be nice if he actually became an ally, something different and his snotty attitude would be worth a good few laughs with his banter.

I'd argue Gohan makes Goku look far worse than 17. 17 has a unique biology and took 13 years to get there.
Gohan is a saiyan that meditated for 5 hours and equaled what Goku just spent years achieving.
And he's came up with a new form in literally a single day. That's supposedly beyond Goku.
That makes Goku pass for a fool IMO.

TBF, Gohan had already achieved much higher "heights", even during the Cell Saga, than 17 was ever shown to achieve
Hence it doesn't feel as awful (though the whole ">48h training = almost as strong a Goku" comes off just as cheap, yeah).Wouldn't call him main character status yet. And Gohan is going back to his book. We've seen EOZ and it's not being retcon.
It was two blows and barely an encounter. And Super Saiyan 2 Trunks too several blows from Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan Vegeta and didn't die.
More like 17 has your unique bias that you're willing to handwave his power gain.
At least most of Gohan's power gain happened after getting rid of a mental block. And Gohan didn't come up with a new form is beyond Goku. He wasn't even shown as Goku's equal since Goku spent most of the fight using Super Saiyan 2.

You should all be scared of Pan... She will find her own path and destroy DB as we know it.
He said it was Ultimate. He wants Ultimate to scale him to new heights without changing forms every time, since new forms usually = taxing on the body.
And SSJ is a giveaway that he needs to be taken seriously, that he has a way of hiding his power. This episode Goku was surprised Gohan didn't go SSJ, in the ToP, one of the wolf fighters or U6 fighters could underestimate Gohan now, if he doesn't go SSJ, thinking he's not using his full power, or that he's so weak he doesn't have SSJ.
