Super episode 500

Random character: "My Ki is special as I can transform it into water, only I can do this"

GodessofGeeksOtakus4lyfe.com:
"BREAKING: Kamehameha retconned into just a stream of water!!"

Sad thing is, this will actual happened.

If it's one thing I learned from how fans reacted to the Future Trunks Saga, is that the fandom can't handle anything more complex then, "this guy is powerful and wants to destroy the universe, the characters fight them".

Trying to explain anything deeper gives us stupid crap like, "Krillin is god-tier!".

I don't even know why there is a no killing rule in the tournament. Zeno wants to delete the whole fucking universe..Who gives a fuck if the fighters die, then. Unless it's all a ruse.
A sense of increased stakes when killing is allowed.
Or maybe anyone who is in the ToP, in the losing universes, will be given an offer to move to the winning universe, or die with their universe.

maybe it's to prevent a team from making a super move like a Spirit Bomb and blowing away everyove else right away.

or it could be that they think killing would make it too boring if people die too fast and they end up with just a few. these Zeno kids seem like they want to be entertained for a while.

So I was rewatching some of the recent transformations in the show, and Gohan turning ultimate stuck out to me, because I'm kinda mixed on it.

I hate this shot right here. Everything about it irks the hell out of me. The pointless shakiness of it, the way Gohan's hair is flicking on and off like a switch is being flipped, how static Gohan looks in it, and how limp the effects are.

However, the rest of the transformation is pretty good.

I wish we would get more focus on eyes when people transform, since I think shots of eyes can make for some dramatic transformations.

I hate that first shot as well. Would have been much better if his hair faded slowly between black and yellow, but no, weird flipping on and off like a light switch.

Episode 95's title has been leaked, along with a screenshot:

"We shall march together, unstopable! The war-cry of universe seven!!"

...do i really need to put a /s here?

It tries to mimick the transformations from the past but forgets the bit that gave them such a dynamic feel (with or without shakiness): The hair + clothes wouldn't ever be static like that. They'd move about with the wind and that alone felt more dynamic than any shaky camera angle ever.

And it wasn't just the character being transformed that was affected by this either, anyone else near him/her/it was shown the same way (with their clothes+hair being affected by the wind).

Super is fun and great and many ways (I would rather have 10 Black arcs than the entirety of GT), but misses many of the beats that made DB and DBZ emblematic in the animation department, simply because they can't seem to reliable convey that feeling of power like the series of old managed to (and in some situations the battle choreography also suffers from that).

It's crazy how the scene spelled out what was going on and so many people still don't understand it.

I hate hate hate hate this, even DB community people who are suppose to know more than the average DBZ fan struggle with this so many times, they just cant just say "ki control!" because its so obvious thats whats going on, its been shown in the series so many times, and constantly hinted at that if these people were actually no hold barred fighting, they would blow up the planet.
Even chaostzu could blow up the planet, master roshi blew up the moon in dragon ball for fuck's sakes.

and because things like ki and such are a real thing(just way way toned down) you could actually find out what they are doing, hell like this episode they say it to us and people love just throwing out the context to fit their narrative.

The are assumptions and thus imaginary, not based on facts.
You just walked up to a random person on the street, accused them of not knowing what they are talking about and then refused to provide actual proof outside of assumptions.

You say that because you think your take of "Everything the angels say is gospel" takes precedent over mine in this situation, which is that "The angels were never established to be in the know with Zeno". Because from my viewpoint, you have to be making an assumption that Vados knew the exact date of when Zeno was going to blow up the universes, even though there is no proof, to argue your stance.

There are different, reasonable, and valid ways to see the situation with valid support from the show to back it up. I don't think either is invalid, really. But I do think claiming that it makes no sense to look at it one way or the other is invalid.

And on the subject of "assumptions", I don't think they're bad or wrong to have and use when making a judgement on an aspect of the story, as long as they're reasoned/backed-up from within the narrative and doesn't straight up contradict anything.

That's nothing. I had someone on Reddit tell me that Goku couldn't destroy the universe, despite him and Beerus nearly doing so in the first story arc, otherwise the universe would have been destroyed when Goku fought Black.

I pointed out by those standards, only first form Frieza, Kid Buu, and Vegeta in filler can destroy a planet since they're the only ones who did it. They never responded to me again.

On the other side of the coin, I have fans of the Super manga on Kanzenshuu tell me that Vegeta obviously kept the power of his rage boost from Battle of Gods, which is why Super Saiyan 2 Vegeta was able to fight Super Saiyan 1/2 Black when Super Saiyan 2 Trunks was equal to Super Saiyan 3 Goku. When I pointed out that the manga never implied that Vegeta kept the rage boost or that his Super Saiyan 2 was mutated in some way, I was based for using 'headcanon' to support my bias and the manga shouldn't' have to tell me that Vegeta's Super Saiyan 2 was mutated since Super Saiyan 2 Vegeta should make it obvious that was the case. I can't tell you how this logical fallacy grind on my nerves, especially since those same people are critical on the anime for not explaining things, yet they're willing to give the manga a pass on that and used a theory not stated in the manga to prove their point.

I really do dislike this fandom at times and Kanzenshuu seems to be filled with circle of jerks lately. This seems to be the only place where you can have a reasonable debate.

Dragon Ball is about as straight forward as a shounen can get so I don't particularly see a need for any huge debates on it, the stuff like poacher meme and Krillen being God level always just struck me as a running gag kinda like how no one in their right mind could consider Goten a favorite character or like how people pretended to like Pudding in the One Piece Manga thread

He beat down a weakened and tired Frieza who wore himself out fighting Goku who did all the work. That really isn't a moment. Goku got to melt Merged Zamasu's face, exposing his weakness.

He got the final hit on Vegeta in the Saiyan Saga.

Vegeta was conscious, while Gohan wasn't tho

Random question but has Limit X Survivor's full version single been released yet? It's been a few months and it's weird that there hasn't been a release. Not sure how long it usually takes for openings to get sold but seems like there's been a delay?

Was it said if all those thugs were saiyan though?

I wonder if it's to do with any lyrics in the second half of the song that might spoil things.

Is that some shade i smell, some of that isn't meme at least not on gaf
I've seen people defend the Goten and Trunks buckshot over Caulifla because "They had the right genes, so they ddeserved it"
I heard arguments of that was just a gag and a joke somewhere which is dumb when a huge plot was relying on them to beat Buu

Agreed. It's pretty weak.

Just compare it to Gohan going S2 at the world tournament before Buu. Way better.

U10 must be destroyed. The angel is super cute though she should be spared. Gowasu is responsible for allowing a student who constantly questioned why mortals should be allowed to live to continue to train to become a God. The group dance. Its time for them to go.

What about the GodTube views

Are we allowed to post a single image from a panel of the Dragon Ball manga or is that considered a scan and against the TOS?
We sometimes and occasanoly post stuff like that in other manga threads so it should be fine as long as you don't share links or entire chapters or too much at least like a page at most, it's free on viz anyway

Started watching Super a couple of days ago, just up to the fight with Golden Frieza. Why can't Vegeta be the main character lol?

Goku is so fucking stupid and just downright unlikable most of the time.

I'm glad his soft attitude and desire for a "fun fight" causing more problems than it solves is actually being called out in Super. Frieza literally destroying the earth because he was too soft to end him was the last straw I hope. Glad he killed his ass.

Whis and Beerus are really fun characters and I love them. Don't quite get Jaco though, he's a weird annoying character.

Also the power levels are so out of whack lol. Goku and Vegeta have literally the power of gods at this point but Freiza came back and trained for only 4 months and was able to go toe-to-toe with them.

You done did it now..Run

Still got the final blow and saved everyone's butt.

At least HxH Nen shenanigans has a form or logic to it. Power levels is just bullshit and not in the fun Jojo kind of way.

You mean power scaling. Not power level. And I honestly find people who keep complaining about powe scaling more annoying than the people who are willing to discuss.

I'm not one to really rant about it, I just think it leads to really limited discussions. That's personally just my take on the whole thing. Doesn't help that there really aren't even any Shonen training arcs any more in Dragon Ball Super. It's like they might as well just do a montage sequence to explain how a person got stronger.

They just have a just a line saying they have been training at least in this arc

It was only really the Z anime filler that had long training sequences and even that was dropped in the Buu Saga. The only time it was a major plot was for 21st World Martial Arts Tourument.

Characters saying they've been training should be more than enough at this point.

When you have a character like 17, somebody we haven't seen fight since before Piccolo became jobber supreme pushing Goku into going SS Blue I would like to see what the hell he's been doing.

Its not.

You doomed us into another week of power level talk

Do people really care about power levels that much? Honestly not even Toriyama gave much of a shit about them. Which is why he dropped the numbers immediately after the Freeza arc. They did not even make much sense there either. The characters went from somewhere around 23000 all the way up to a million in a span of a week.

He's been training and he was already enhanced to the point of being equal with Piccolo merged with Kami. What, you it to be something special?

Would it be nice to see how he got so strong? Sure. Is it necessary? Not really. He wouldn't be the first to get stronger off scene.

We're not talking about power levels. It's power scaling. How strong one character is to another. Power levels is just random numbers Toriyama made.

And saying that Toriyama gave up on power scaling is just a lie, otherwise Krillin would be able to kill Beerus. Even Goku getting hit a laser had to properly explained in-universe instead of it just happening.

I wonder if Kale goes Hulk when she transforms or if she keeps her sanity, only with an added list for blood.
I want to see her throwing people around and smashing them to the ground.
U6: We have a Kale.

I want this scene with Kale and Goku :P

Legendary super saiyan outdoing SSB would make no sense, but do it anyways because reasons.

He must have trained better than Yamcha did during his prep for the Android saga, he just hit the gym.

My head canon is that differences in strength are not that big as it seems.
My head canon is they're all the same strength, goku and vegeta just get more spotlight. If I took this seriously like other shonens I could write a 20 page rant. Characters, story and world building that's what I'm here for at this point

He was designed to kill pre-Namek Goku though (just a *tiny* bit overkill, eh Gero?), so obviously he can easily train to be on par with post-BOG SSJ2 Goku.

Edit: obviously

We never saw Yamcha's training in the Android Saga, that was filler, and 17 started out higher than Yamcha to boot.

Edit: obviously

It's so much overkill that 17 beat up two Super Saiyans, one that has been training for the Androids for three years, and a fused Namekian without trying. We then find out he's equal to a Super Namekian. And the highest power Gero saw was Great Ape Vegeta with a power level of less than 180,000.

The Androids have always been BS. So I don't see why people take issue with 17's growth if they had no problem with him being so strong during the Android/ Cell Saga.
