Shouldn't Frieza want to get a Turquoise Frieza transformation or something? He made his latest form Golden to mock the Super Saiyan transformation but he didn't know Goku and Vegeta had unlocked Super Saiyan Blue at the time.

It was still Super Saiyan Goku who humiliated him and shattered his pride. So he would feel more emotional towards gold than Blue.

looks like the episode for next week in on point too for art

did they increase the budget now that things are about to start?

hopefully from now on until the end of the tournament it stays this way

the art was surprisingly good all the way through. random.

seriously, it didn't really hit me until the 17/18/Krillin scene but I was like "whoah why is the art so good in this episode full of talking?" then it totally paid off with Frieza's transformation.

Not only that but it had some seriously great character moments all the way through, making it one of my favorite episodes of Super despite having zero action.

The episode had literally 2 minutes of "talking" between the gods of U4 and U9 and those were still pictures with no animation.

Pretty sure that allowed the rest to be decent.

Nah its purple and gold very regal 👑
now that it makes sense he would chose the color

I guess I'm sold on Frieza joining now. Still sad it's at the cost of Buu, but the dynamic between Frieza and Goku was fun this episode, adding in the rest of the cast should be good too.

Having all this downtime before the arc starts has been great. Even if some episodes were weaker than others, the characters have been allowed to breath in a way that we need to see a lot more of.

Marron getting her own baby Pan moment would be hilarious.

I think we've gotten it.

She really wanted her dad to be strong and 18 being so protective of Marron yet OK with her being on a dangerous island implies she's stronger than she looks !

And since 17 has only one biological child, that means there's only 2 "super humans" for the new generation, coincidentally.

I have a feeling it will head that way.

He's kinda shit looking to be honest.

Hard to get excited for that generic dude when you have new saiyans and old school cast members coming back.

I actually like his design lol, can't wait to see Jiren in action. Something tells me he's going to enter my favorite DB characters list.

You can like it, but it's still very generic and bland. (intentionally so)

On top of that, all we know is that he can "punch hard". That's really hard to get excited when you have Gohan, Roshi, 17 and Frieza back, and female super saiyans on the other hand.

That's my 2 cents anyway. I haven't seen much hype for Jiren besides ArchedThunder you and two other dudes in here.

I feel like Hit was better at whatever Jiren is supposed to convey.

How is Hit better if you're not even sure what Jiren is supposed to convey?

I don't have an opinion on Jiren because he literally hasn't done or said anything yet.

It's all hearsay and it's barely even that. How many times has the name 'Jiren' even been spoken in the show so far? Three, four times?

I heard Jiren has beaten Whis in an arm wrestling contest but Whis wouldn't admit it

Because he's filling the exact same role Hit had ?

Except they had shown us the encounter with Hit and Frost so that offered a sneak peak into what the character could do. It created anticipation for his battle.

Here we're going in the battle directly with Jiren thrown in, but haven't been shown anything that should make us care.

"Woah he can punch hard, sick" "Woah a red aura, sick".

A glimpse is exactly all we have.

That was almost 10 episodes ago, holy shit.

lol I remember that I meant a voiced scene at the very least

Jiren looks pretty awesome to me by the way, I'm pretty excited to see him in action, more so than the new saiyans, only other character I am more excited for is magical girl

We don't know what role Jiren has other than being Goku's 'rival' similarly to Hit. But how he will actually fulfill that role is an open question, especially since Super is building Jiren the same way as Hit. We don't even have "Woah he can punch hard, sick" "Woah a red aura, sick", other than the intro.

We also don't know when Goku will fight Jiren. As far as we know, Jiren will single-handily wiped half of the tournament roster before even getting to Goku.

I think that is a swerve. Look at 17 and 18's interactions. He don't got a wife and child brehs.

He showed Goku his family so no.

"other than" dude. That's what I'm talking about, you don't get to brush it off.

Jiren is clearly set up as the "main" rival of Goku in this arc, we had never seen him before, and he is a participant of a tournament, so he's not "evil", just a strong opponent. This is exactly like how Hit was presented. That was my point.

But from the moment we saw Hit on screen, he was given several things to work with, his indifferent demeanor regarding Vegeta and Goku's powers, Goku saying that guy was strong, that culminated with the Frost scene, showing us a sneak peak as to why Hit was special.

Jiren has been mentioned 10 episodes ago, there's been a lot of setup in his universe, yet we know nothing besides "he's strong", we've only seen the "red aura" and that's about it. We know he punches hard thanks to the OP. On top of an intentionally bland design, it's really hard to be excited for this character.

So as I said, they did a better job with Hit than they did with Jiren.
