Dragons Dogma 2 worth $30?...or should I just skip it? (PS5)

For me it was worth 60. There is nothing like DD2, well DD1: DA I guess.

DD2 was my GOTY despite being obviously unfinished. I just love the traversal, banter with pawns, feel of combat and the chaos that can ensue at every crossroad. You just don't know when you get sniped by a griffon, and a cyclops decides to join in. Nuking enemies with sorcs never gets old and I actually like Fighter class in DD2.

DA is better in the sense that its a more complete product with added DLC chapter that neared perfection. The classes were fleshed out.

Get both. DA should be free or a few quarters.

It was worth it at full price, so yes.

I don't know what people still hating on DD2 expected, it literally feels like a sequel to DD1 in every regard minus the Dark Arisen expansion which hopefully they are already working on for DD2.

I am yet to start it. Bought it for very cheap. Love Dark Arisen, heck I even loved DD when it released on PS3.

I'm confused about the PS5 Pro options. Which fucking mode to choose

It's mediocre IMO but $30 is a fair price. You'll probably get some enjoyment out of it if you want to scratch that kind of action RPG itch, but I would never pay more than that.

Got 250 hours in DD1, 220 must be playing fighter, and the same goes for DD2.

Imo the best sword + board gameplay that videogames have to offer, no contest.

no.
Just play Dragons Dogma 2.
It's fantastic and I absolutely do not understand the hate.
I tried palying dark arisen after it and I couldn't get into it
DD2 is very, very fun to play but it feels awfully unfinished. The first game too, but that one at least manages to have a few cool dungeons and even memorable set pieces, like escaping the Everfall or the griffin hunt. DD2 has a much bigger world but somehow it feels like there's less going on in it.

Also the music is waaaay better in the old games. There's nothing in DD2 that comes to the level of neither DD1 or DDON.

not sure why everyone is saying it feels unfinished. I finished the game and it wasn't lacking at all.
Maybe they could add 1 or 2 more enemies but generally it's ok. It's a 30-50h long game. not 100h and thats good

The story and main quest is a clear indicator:
  1. You spend a good chunk of the main quest gathering evidence against the queen regent and the false Arisen.
  2. It all amounts to fucking nothing, as Brandt tells you to go to cat land.
  3. Cat land feels super rushed, with barely any quests nor interactions with the characters there.
  4. For some reason, the thief boss who barely appears in the game at all has his own cutscenes. More screen time than Nadinia, who is in the cover of the game and barely serves any purpose at all.
  5. The third biome, the volcanic area, is just two hallways, way underdeveloped when comapared to the Vermund area, and even more rushed than cat land.

And the same goes for the post-game. They show you the Dragon's Dogma 2 logo as if you were in the middle of the game but nah, it's just one quest that adds nothing new but 2 bosses (one of them being just a Drake with some more attacks) and you don't even get to fight the end game boss, but rather kill it in a cutscene during the credits.

Not to mention this:

A lot of caves have those doors that are just fucking nothing. Some of them are just little caves with those doors and nothing else, which imo scream cut content very loudly.

And finally, there's the moon, which was shown/teased during the pre-release material but is nowhere to be seen in the final game.

Took me almost 150 hours to finish lmao. But yeah I like exploring and taking things slow.

Sometime I wonder if the dev forgot they're making a fcking RPG . DDDA wasnt this bad .

Early to late game 99% of your gears coming from the shop. Exploration gave fuck all despite having millions of chest around the world . Lack of build , most Augments are fcking useless . The game so braindead in term of rpg might aswell call it an action adventure game , even the AC trilogy have more rpg elements than this game .

The World is huge but you going around looting useless shit fighting the same enemy over and over again just for the exp .

I'd recommend to anyone who has enjoyed either of both Dogma games to check out the Online spin-off. Super fun and perfectly playable in single-player, with none of the MMO grinding.

Agree and honestly, as much as I've love those games I've never seen them as RPGs but rather action-adventure games or even open-world beat'em'ups, kinda like a 3D and open-world version of the Capcom D&D games.

I tried playing Dragon's Dogma 2 after Dark Arisen and couldn't get into it. Don't understand why Dark Arisen is hated now. DD2 needs a "Dark Arisen"-style expansion, imho. (and additional bug fixes).

Speaking as someone who liked the first well enough and hoped for the sequel to be the "step up" the series deserved, it turned out to be my personal disappointment of the year.
I bought it at launch but going back I wouldn't waste my time on it if I got it for free.

It's fucking amazing, at first.

Then you get halfway and realize you're fighting the same monsters/bosses all over the map. IMO wait for the eventual Dark Arisen update for 2.

I would skip and play the original. The second game looks good, combat is fine but its like they forgot to complete the game. I can't really describe it better than that. Very empty experience overall.
Yeah, I had the same feeling. I played DA for the first time leading up to 2 out of hype, and loved every second. The second died for me after reaching the second map.

all valid points.
thankfully the main combat, graphics and physics are so fun, they make the game worth it

Games not for everyone, but I ADORE it and the original.

My biggest complaint by far is enemy variety, but the game is just so fucking fun and it's weird-ass mechanics make it way better IMO.

Agreed! DD2 has probably been my most bittersweet game ever. Absolute disappointment, yet still clocked in 150 hours of fun. :goog_relieved:

Sure hope they end up giving us a DLC, although after all this time I'm starting to lose hope. They patched the character creator just the other day, and Capcom is still paying for Denuvo so hey, maybe?

Does this game have a balance mode(40fps),if so,how stable is it(on base ps5)? . . I tried looking this up,but couldnt find a concrete answer

I just…. Nah. And I really liked the concepts of DD1, but instead of working on improving that… they just kinda crabwalked sideways.

Yes, it's easily worth $ 30; I enjoyed the game a lot and had a good time playing it on PC. Would love for the DA Director to come back and do another big expansion for this, taking over the IP, giving it another go, as sales weren't too bad.

One of few games that actually manage to do open world right. The exploration and sense of adventure of this game is top tier.

It's worth playing just for that.

i love it, i would say it's worth 60. There is nothing like DD2 except DDDA.
My advice for everyone is to play it on pc with mods: random encounters, wild loot and better chests. Game changer.
