Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen Comes to PC This January

Souls character creator is pretty bad but the armor is so beautiful, however, a lot of the detailed texture work was hidden away at the 720p resolution it was locked to prior to DSFix on PC. I hope we see something similar when this finally becomes available at higher resolutions.

DUDE

you think PC modders will be able to patch in Multiplayer?

Pipe dream Im sure but the original development of the game was going to have it and they backpedaled to the pawn system instead right?

Calling the job a "patch" is a bit of disservice to the amount of technical and design rework necessary to add in MP.

There seems to be a problem with the Steam page. My preorder button is missing, how could Capcom make such a mistake? I'm ready to throw $30-$120 (additional copies ;)) at this sucker and they obviously don't want my money right now.

January is so far away :(

I think the wait wouldn't feel as long if I didn't have the PS3 version on my HDD mocking me ;_;

I know what you mean, but there's plenty of games from now til then to jump back in, Arisen!

My backlog has gotten to the point where game release dates have become irrelevant. I start to get excited as they approach, but I have so many games to play I'll perpetually have something to hold me over.

The more I think about this the more excited I get.
I really loved the game on 360, but the framerate was holding it back.
I cannot wait to see this game running on my pc, and I'll get to jump into the Bitterblack Isle for the first time. This game was really overlooked. Amazing graphics (wind effects), the enemies changing at night, and of course the wonderful combat.

This is such great news. Grabbed Dragon's Dogma on PS+ on the month it was free and enjoyed the first 2 or 3 hours, but I just couldn't put up with the frame rate or the black bars along the top and bottom. It was a let down because the combat was so fun.

This will be day 1 for me.

DD has a great CC, but end result characters still kinda look like a butt. Mods will improve on that, though. Oh yes, comeon skyrim modders, come to the side with good games

They look low res, but "like butt" ? I don't think so

man I wish I was as interested in as many games as you are, I don't even have a backlog if we exclude arkham knight due to waiting for it to become decent on PC.

Well, to be brutally honest, that probably means you're not paying enough attention to what's coming out or you're just being too closed minded about what you're willing to give a chance. It's pretty much impossible to play every good game that comes out on Steam, even if you have no life at all

... Because you wanted to get rid of the low framerate, low resolution, and letterboxed image? If you truly stopped caring, you wouldn't care about a port

I'll rephrase it for you. The game is so fun that the letterboxed image, the low resolution, and the low framerate didn't lessen my enjoyment of it, despite my preference for high framerates (shown by my willingness to invest in a monitor that can display high framerates). It pleases me to see that a game I would gladly play again is being ported to PC, where it will be able to shine on systems that can provide enough power to run it at higher framerates and resolutions than on the PS3, making a game that is already enjoyable enough that it shines despite its technical limitations even more enjoyable.

I hope that helps.

Ps3 version was really awful, couldn't bring myself to finish the game.

Can't wait for that PC version !
It wasn't bad at all. While I'm saddened that you missed out on completing DA, I'm thrilled that you will be picking it back up on pc.

As long as I can run this at 60FPS I'm happy.

I'm guessing Durante is all over this one, seems like his kind of game.

I'm another guy who got 6 hours into the game on PS3 and just couldn't continue.

I've finished it back there and it was a piece of shit, performance wise. Literally headache induncing low framerates.

Any reason why the game is region locked and not available in asia (the game is available for retail on playstation 3 here)? This is the first time since bionic commando that a game from Capcom has been region locked.

FF5 from SE is the same, it's getting frustrating.

Fashion Dogma is vastly superior to Fashion Souls in my opinion.
In Dragon's Dogma you have more slots, i mean two slots for the chest, two for legs and a separate slot for mantles..the combinations are incredible.

(souls huge fan here)
I disagree. The character creator is certainly better, but the fashion options aren't nearly as good as the Souls series. There are some really cool armour sets, but many more terrible ones, there are obnoxious examples of sexist designs, and the two slots for chest/legs don't change that much since many of the armour pieces hide the clothing (and only the patterned gambeson or abyssal vest is any good as chest clothing anyway :P).

Also, the fact that armour stats are more important than in Souls series, means that most everyone runs with BBI lv3 gear in the end, with minor variants, and if they don't, it's always the same annoying scantily clad female pawns with lingerie. Yawn. (I always make a point to never rent these pawns and instead rent the more creative ones.)

I do like the selection of circlets they have though, which allows my pawn and Arisen to get a decent stat boost while still showing off their faces.

Maybe I can finally use the mystic knights grand cannon without the game turning into a slideshow.

Admittely I like when that stuff happens cause it makes me feel like I'm drunk with power.

Is this like Dark Souls? I never played it.

They're as different as night and day. Not sure how these two games ever drew comparisons.

i will die if someone makes the berserker armor and its effects

You're going to be ecstatic when you find the two excellent vanilla Berserk sets already in the game. Weapons, too.

I agree, for the most part. Souls has some gorgeous armor sets, but ultimately it felt like just that - like I was playing a suit of armor and not a character wearing armor.

I'm not even sure the Berserk stuff will remain. Licensing issues might prevent it in the port, similar to how FFXIII-2's costumes weren't officially part of the package (though quick ini fiddling allowed them in the game).

It's not really that hard to imagine...

"Oh, Dark Souls is like the hardest game ever!"
"Dragon's Dogma is pretty hard, and it's downright BRUTAL (not really) post-game!"
"Oh, so Dragon's Dogma is like Dark Souls right?"
"Yeah"

Also, aesthetically it does have a lot in common. Even though it plays nothing alike, during my very first playthrough I was constantly reminded of Demon's and Dark Souls.

I can see why people compare it to Souls. The stories in both are full of weird enigmatic NPCs that like to talk in riddles, and there's a focus on the whole "recurring" nature of the world in the narrative. It has an odd online system. They have similar atmosphere, they let you wander into enemies that are way out of your level range.

Yeah, it doesn't play like it too much but to say you have no clue why anyone compares the two is kind of baffling.

How viable are pure magic builds in this game?

100%, if you are playing a mage you are only that, you still should have a fighter in your party, but thats what pawns are for. If you want to you never have to use a weapon other than your staff, works perfect. And boy if those spells aren't the best in video game history!
Assassin is still the best thought. Best. Class. Ever!

Pure magic build is doable but to me kind of misses on a lot of the appeal of the game, especially early on. The physical classes are too much fun to miss out on. I'd suggest it for a secondary playthrough.
