Today Ubisoft announced that it has signed an exclusive publishing deal with Square Enix to bring DRAKENGARD 2 to North America and Europe. Under the agreement, Ubisoft will distribute DRAKENGARD 2 for the PlayStation 2.

Ubisoft is expanding its prior collaboration with Square Enix. Last year Ubisoft published Star Ocean Till the End of Time for PlayStation 2 and distributed the Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (MMORPG) FINAL FANTASY XI for Windows throughout Europe.

DRAKENGARD 2 is a role-playing action game featuring knights and dragons that builds on the scenario of the original title. Released in Japan last June, DRAKENGARD 2 became an immediate success, topping Japanese sales charts and selling more than 100,000 copies in its first week of release.

"We are very excited to be working with Square Enix to publish this highly anticipated RPG in North America and Europe," said Jay Cohen, vice president of publishing at Ubisoft. "DRAKENGARD 2 is a hit in the Japanese market, and we are sure that North American and European gamers will also be thrilled by this fantastic adventure title."

DRAKENGARD 2 will be available in Europe, North America and Australia in March 2006.

Sweet. We knew it was probably coming, but not when. I think I'm one of the few people who enjoyed the first. If they just spruced up the on-foot action I'm sold. I played 2 a little bit, it did seem improved, but I didn't play it nearly long enough to form an opinion.

I don't know if the game sucks but the soundtrack is AMAZING. So I might buy this down the line somewhere just to hear it in a game.

Wohooo...Ubisoft love +1. I guess I won't see it translated but its better than nothing.

I second that Ape Escape 3 petition for another extra point.

I thought this is Square's December game? What will it release instead? Dare I dream a surprise KHII announcement?...

I think SE is banking on DQ8 carrying them through the rest of the year. That and the royalties off of NOA releasing FFIV on GBA in Dec.

*POP* Magnifique!

Sonarrat: It might be wishful thinking on my part, but I believe I heard it was "better than the first one." Maybe that was just the soundtrack.

I dug the first one, so that's cool for me, but I want to know whether to make a spot on my Christmas list for it. I paid $10 for the first one and may do a similar thing for the sequel if it's just more of the same.

I loved the first game, but I couldn't get into 2 because there's a bit at the end of the second mission where I just die everytime I get there. I should really push past it though because I want to see how the story goes. The soundtrack is one of the very best in gaming.

no grandia III for europe, but a sequel to a shitty game? come on squenix, do SOMETHING right!
:lol You haven't played Grandia III, obviously.

no, becvause i dont own a chipped ps2. but i played drakengard 1 till the end and yes, this game was annoying and really uninpired.

Grandia III is a bit of a letdown really, unbalanced, sparse story, quite short.

From the little I've played of Drakengard 2, I can see they addressed a couple of things - the dragon flight is much smoother now and the melee combat is more varied. You can change characters at any time while you're running around. The cameras still suck though.

Meh, I couldn't care less about it. Drakengard 1 was probably one of the most boring and dull games I've played since years.

my biggest complains about the first one were:

- really annyoing music
- boring and repetive combat
- story was a letdown afterall, even with the multiple endings
- beautiful cgi videos
- the dragon riding was ok, for the most time (only in the end, the targeting system failed with too many enemies)
