Driveclub PS Plus Edition Delayed by Server Issues

DriveClub looks amazing and the PGR vibes have me salivating.

But honestly, the delays, inability to make launch, and network problems are of their own making. I'm not going to pity them for it.
Evolution must be snake bit or something. Wasn't the MotorStorm: Apocalypse launch delayed because of the disaster in Japan, AND released in NA during the PSN outage?

Am I alone thinking its odd to allow people to pay money for the game digitally, but won't allow the preview version in a situation like this? More so when the game in question has single-player modes, and they have the ability to limit or disable online modes server-side? This is me being under the impression that the PSN download servers are separate from the game servers.

Youre not alone.

I can't understand what can load their servers so much

- No preloading
- No different release dates for different territories (they are lat already in all of them)
- Early october and they already have huge problems with servers. what's going to happen in november and december?
- Still no info about Firmaware 2.0 and if they planned to release it during Driveclub I don't even know what to say.

And in todays episode of " Tales from My Ass "

I'm surprised so many people waiting on the free version are so enraged. I mean, it's unavoidable for me not to picture a little kid having a temper tantrum with some of the responses (especially following the official FB post).

I'm more sympathetic to those who bought the full version, but can't access the social features at launch.

I personally don't think people would be upset if Sony actually came out and said "we are having issues with the game and our infrastructure that supports it, we apologize for the delay and are working hard to have everything online before the end of the week".

The fact they've gone dark (for the most part) and not really said anything or given any time-frame is ridiculous for a paid service.
This is something clearly Sony has not improved since PS3 PSN, their communication with their customers suck. They need a mouthpiece like Major Nelson to communicate issues with gamers and they are dumping that responsibility on each developer which is so shortsighted for a paid service.
Even if they are having infrastructure issues this whole issue comes off as trying to get impatient people to buy the full version.

Hit the nail on the head. I love my Playstation but when there are issues Sony is ALWAYS silent on them. It is worse than poor customer service; it's a complete lack of customer service.

This was my guess as to what was going on pretty early into the process.

If they were having server issues with just the full release, putting up the PS+ version for another 6 million people to possibly download and play would of been a poor decision and broke things even further.

Problem is that most people that paid $59.99 for the game have not been able to play on-line as well. It is one thing to not allow PS+ members not to play it, but for the people that shelled out $60+ on it they cant even play the game with what it's most touted feature and that is it's on-line component.

It just seems like a complete cluster fuck. At least have your servers ready for the people that paid for the game.

Assuming you paid full price for a year of PS+ in USD, that's 50.
Ignoring PS+ sale discounts and other perks, let's just focus on the games.

Ignoring cross play bonuses, there are 6 games a month for 12 months. Drive club is in addition to that. So, 12x6+1 = 73 games. $50/73 = $0.69 per game.

If you got ps+ for $30, it's only $0.41 per game.

And again, that's ignoring any other sale discounts and other benefits we've received. So while I understand being somewhat disappointed by the wait, we're talking pocket change.

Solid points across the board—and I believe PS Plus is a tremendous value when working properly.

My disappointment stems from not being able to play DriveClub despite the fact that it's been released and that PS Plus (and PSN) have quality control issues—server crashes, slow downloads, etc.

The only explanation is that evolution servers are too loaded and they don't want to spoil the experience to potential full game buyers making them play an offline game.

That's exactly what they have said on their Facebook page:

"In order to help all DRIVECLUB players who have the game already, we're temporarily holding back the PS Plus Edition and the My DRIVECLUB app to ease the load and traffic to the servers."

Before the end of the year is all I've heard.

Sad, that they are willing to distribute digital copies for money, but want to not release the PS+ version which they promised more then a year ago.

I had ordered it on disc despite the PS+ version, but I probably will return the disc unless the G27 works on it, which at this point is unlikely :(

GT7 where art thou..

Which is exactly why they aren't bringing the PS-plus players into the fold. They want to ensure those who shelled out $60 are able to experience the full online mode before the much larger tide of plus players jump online.

To be honest, this is not the first game that has had server issues on launch, and it probably won't be the last. Should Sony/Evolution do a better job of ensuring enough resources for launch, of course, and hopefully moving forward driveclub players will have a smooth experience.

Was really looking forward to downloading and testing out Driveclub today. Big disappointment, but I hope it will be available until Friday

Is the server operating properly for standard edition owners?

Not at all. I have a few friends that bought it at midnight on release and as of this morning have yet to be able to connect to the servers. I did hear from one friend that did, but he got his copy a day or two before it officially launched, but basically since launch no one seems to be able to connect.

It is like the servers are not turned on or something. I know people are saying that due to this release, NBA2k15 and Aliens that the servers are being hammered, but usually some people or a good percentage are able to connect. In DC's case, I have yet to hear any of my friends or someone from Gaf that has been able to do all the on-line stuff since launch.

It seems like there is something more to it than "servers are hammered". Destiny, while we can argue it's merits so long after launch, had an outstanding 1st week and the servers did not buckle then, I would wager that Destiny on PS4 1st few days of sales would be more than Alien, DC and NBA combined. If the servers did not buckle with Destiny, then something is really jacked up.

Is the assumption that by not releasing the product that they will reduce demand? Seems odd to actively try to have less people use s product at a company whose business performance depends highly on the number of people using their product...

Most companies don't release a product which essentially DDoS's their servers.

I agree with you 100%, but the real issue is that people that paid for the game already have not been able to play on-line at all. When you say they want to ensure that those who shelled out $60 are able to experience the full online mode, well as to my knowledge none of those people have been able to do play on-line as well.

I just hope they resolve this quickly. I want to experience the game as intended.

I don't even...

1) It's nearly impossible to test server load under millions of users without millions of users. That's why some games (including this one) have betas, etc. 'Reap what you sow'? C'mon.

2) Drop the ps+ req because it got delayed a couple days? Really?

3) If you don't care, why post such ridiculous assertions?

1) I admit I'm ignorant when it comes to pretty much anything online like servers and stress testing and whatnot, but I'm not stupid. Aren't their services and people that do exactly this type of testing? And if it had a beta, what happened? Was it not tested during that? Why can a game like Destiny launch with relatively few issues, but somehow this game does have issues? It's certainly not because more people are trying to play this.

2) Yes really. It's just a thought. It's something they could do to show goodwill/that they're attempting to make things right.

3) I don't care about this game in particular. I certainly care about the issues in general. As I said if it were a game I cared more about I'd be pretty pissed about it.

Driveclub facebook account reporting that the DC servers have "reached their limits".

Did they not know how many pre-orders and PS+ members internationally there are?

Ah, wish I would have saw this thread before posting in the other one. Anyway, I'll just restate that I'm sure it will be fun to try once it arrives. Let them sort the issues out first.

Even more people would be angry if they paid for and preordered the game and couldn't play it.

Do you care to explain why the PS Plus Edition didn't hit the store at the same time as the full version (and other PS Plus October games) then?

The full game was already on the store.

The free edition was going to get added along with the other free games for the month and the store update which occured that afternoon. But they scrapped that idea due to the server issues already occuring with DriveClub.

Pretty easy to explain really.

If the DDoS thing is true, how do they fix it? The clients can't be updated if they can't connect to the (updated) server. Do they just wait for demand to die down?

I meant specifically how it's still up for sale (and promoted in tabs) on the US Playstation store. Clearly existing customers should be catered to.
Yeah I see your point now. It would be safer to take the paid game off the store too until they can get this resolved.

Forza Horizon 2 had a lot of similar problems just one week ago.

I couldn't join the GAF Club for the first 24 hours.
Yet you could still play the game and download it. Clearly a few people not being able to join a club means it's similar to a game with a launch like this.

It's mad to think I'm paying for this service. I was looking forward to playing this on the weekend. I'm feeling less and less interested by the day.

I've paid for the full price game and they've taken the money from my account.
I've downloaded the game and it's sitting on my PS4.
I can watch other people from across the world play the game.
I'm notified that my online friends are playing the game.
I'm in the UK so I have to wait until Friday before I can play the game :(

Why are people blaming PSN? This seems like a DriveClub specific issue. So the snarky "bu bu bu what am I paying for" comments just comes off as childish.

Because PSN has had issues (on and off) for several weeks and it is ridiculous. Messages wouldn't arrive til 20 minutes later yesterday.

On topic, I can wait for DriveClub but I hope Sony can do something about the server issues because November is going to be a fun month.

What the fuck? What an asshole move. Let us play it offline for fuck's sake. Even when Destiny made PSN wonky (and was an online only game) they didn't remove it from the store.

From my understanding Driveclub PS+ doesn't have an online mode anyways. Your servers are bad? Understandable, but give us the game.

"We screwed up by not having enough servers, so to screw you over even more you can't ger our game."

"We decided this the day AFTER release and we will choose when we want the game to come out and will leave our loyal subscribing fans in the dark."

Sony can enjoy the PR shitstorm.

Wait, people actually believe these "server" issues after a one year delay of a game, review embargo and poor reviews?

Yikes

Please expand on your conspiracy theory...my tinfoil hat is on...i cant wait to hear it...i mean the game is out..we have it.

30 of 46 reviews were 7.5 or higher , that 4 and those few 5s.really hurt the average (far more than warranted IMO )

Not sure where you heard that but its completely wrong.

When the servers are down, you can't form a club, play with other people in MP, or send challenges to other people. If the servers were up you'd be able to do all that with the PS+ version.

You can. The only thing the Plus edition was holding back was content. You would receive updates, patches like weather and so forth. It only takes a few minutes to stop yourself from spreading false info.

And the game isn't even that hyped and the reviews are mixed so I can't understand how their limits could be reached just from the full version of the game.
