Driveclub PS Plus Edition Delayed by Server Issues

"We are giving priority to paying customers, so if you want try the demo, you need to wait, sorry. Or you can buy the full game now!"

I don't know... I think that's the most reasonable thing for them to do. It would be even worse for them to put effort on the free version and make the ones who actually paid wait longer.

Why has everything got to be a conspiracy?

The online servers aren't even up for people who have bought the game.

Answer that.

You're right, there is no conspiracy as it's just plain old incompetence in terms of planning and poor quality server infrastructure.

Yep and its irritating. Especially when I planned to jump straight online with the game.

Makes you wonder what they actually do with all that PSN sub money.

Volume. There will be astronomically more people jumping in for free than there are people plunking down $50.

Leaving the digital version up over these couple of days might mean tens of thousands of people. And you can't stop physical sales either.

The free version? Easily several million, all hitting the server at the exact same time.

This isn't really rocket science.

That's not the point I'm trying to make. Of course the sales of the digital version aren't going to do that much compared to the PS+ version in terms of traffic. I'm simply saying that by leaving the digital version up when your whole argument for not releasing the PS+ version is that the servers are being stressed is just a slap in the face to PS+ subscribers. I'm not saying they deliberately held back the PS+ edition to drive full game sales. I'm saying I'm not surprised that people are saying this and find the whole thing shady. It makes no business sense to hold it back other than to somehow "save" the game from killing itself.

Except Asia, where PS+ version is available. They probably already know that Asia is now Xbox territory with XB1 launch in China, I don't expect more than 10 people playing on PS4 now here.

so the online is now on a Take Turn system LOL

So people on Gaf telling me that you can't fix this by simply "adding servers" and that due to constant connection attempts game is pretty much DDoS'ing its own servers. I don't believe you, those people said it like a fact, they sounded pretty convincing, Sony and Evo don't know what they are talking about.

sarcasm

Almost immediately after the full game was released.
Which is ridiculous. There is no way there was that big of an influx of people at launch. This isn't Gran Turismo, anything by Blizzard, or Destiny. If anything, it leads credence to the idea that either Evolution is wholly incompetent in server management or the game simply wasn't ready. I'm just left shaking my head over all of this.

We will know quite quickly where the problem lies.

If the game needs a patch to get the online up and running then its on Evo's head.

I cant believe how easy a lot of people are letting Sony and evo off for the server fuck ups.

If this was EA shit would be hitting the fan. Guys this is just poor planning.

What do DC and MGS:GZ on the PS4 have in common?

They suffer from a lack of a cloud.

I feel sorry for the PR people for this game, what a mess.

Destiny ran smooth as silk at launch so it's not as if the servers can't handle the influx brought on by DriveClub. DC was already suffering from middling reviews. You think anyone is going to pay for an average game with a bad launch that has a free edition? I'm not going to buy it unless I play the free game and completely fall in love with it. First impressions are everything. What happens when by the third and fourth impression you're still not buying? Just sayin.

Which makes a future with games requiring online to function pretty frightening. Having just enough infrastructure to meet normal traffic is how they always seem to operate, meaning no game will be playable for the first week of release.

I wonder if Sony will offer anything for the delay, a extra location for the free version perhaps? a discount for the PSN full game buyers?

How is this Sony's fault if Evo has written their netcode this way? Driveclub is basically DDoS'ing Evolution's own servers. Sony is to be blamed here... how and why exactly?

We already established that it's not true. Problem is not enough server capacity, game has servers functional, but basically it creates queue for players to join, when someone quits and frees up slot. But there is no queue whatsoever, so it's random. Read statement from last page.

It's not bandwidth issue, it's capacity issue - Sony cheapened out on amount of servers.

A lot of people on here seemed more than eager to crucify EA for the Battlefield 4 debacle. I don't see how this is different.

I love how they're calling the PS plus version the "free" version. I subscribed to PS plus partially because Sony made everyone think that we were going to get the whole entire drive club game for "free" on PS plus. I get the money I paid to subscribe to PS plus just doesn't count…

They never said that even once, so if you thought that, you should have been paying more attention. They clearly said "Plus Edition" from the very beginning.

If this problem still happens months after launch then I promise you they will get blasted by us and the media. It's just not a fair comparison at this point. Hopefully it never will be....

because the problem with BF4 extended into the actual game itself. Entire campaigns being erased, corrupted saves, etc.

It wasn't just not being able to login being the issue. The whole game was f'ed

Lol my PS+ subscription ends next week so i really hope they put it up in the next few days.Otherwise for me it'll be one game less for October (not planning to resubscribe)

Hopefully you know this but once your subscription expires you will lose access to any free games you downloaded from plus.

Destiny is a $500 Million dollar game

How many times does this have to be debunked before people will stop posting this nonsense?

Evo is first party... and games are tested by Sony before launch (remember when Minecraft PS4 fails quality testing??? Sony's quality assurance...)

Same here that's why I'm asking. I already wanted to cancel last time I could but I let it resubscribe because of this. Now I might not even get to try it lol.

I'm not sure what they expected. PS+ subscribers are in the millions. What was their plan concerning this release? I mean they have to have the server capacity of Diablo 3 PC in order to accommodate the number of PS+ subscribers. Is Sony really devoting Diablo 3 worth of servers to accommodate this PS+ release?

I watched the keynote at E3 when they discussed Driveclub on PS+. And I sure don't remember anyone explaining how it was going to be not the full version of the game.

I watched that keynote too. They very clearly indicated that there was going to be a special "PS+ Edition." At no point did they ever say or imply that the full game was coming to Plus.

Here's a contemporaneous link that explicitly states that the Plus version wouldn't be the full game:

Well they have to at some point, unless they start letting people on based on which letter their username starts with or something.

Check your settings, I used a PS+ Card to subscribe and didn't know it was set to automatically renew using my CC in PSN. They got me for another year =\

This argument comes up time and time again. It all depends on your definition of "few". The PS+ edition was said to have "the full game minus a few cars and tracks" which was also on a slide somewhere during the presentation, I can't find that though.

So, does a "few" = over 80% of the game or does a "few" = a smaller portion of the game? I sided with a few meaning what most people take it to mean, if there were 5 locations, we'd be short 1 or 2, not 4 out of 5. If there were 100 cars, a 'few' would be 10-20, not 80 of them.

If I say I'm going to give you a $100 minus a few dollars, you'd expect about $75-90 most likely. Not a $20 bill.

And also this:

Can you describe the PS Plus version for us?

Yes, the PS Plus version will be the exact same as the full version, except that it may be missing a few assets such as cars or tracks, that will be found in the full version. However the online multiplayer, the asynchronous challenges and the single player campaign will all be present in the PS Plus version. The PS Plus version gives us to the biggest open community, day one. This game is all about socialising.

Thanks but i currently don't have my CC connected to my account.I just use Network Cards. ;)

cause they are the publisher, they are just as responsible as the devoloper.

At the keynote they called it "free access to drive club PS+ edition". Notice the ps+ EDITION which made it clear it was not the full game and this was confirmed by Sony many times after the conference.
