Driveclub PS Plus Edition Delayed by Server Issues

Let's blame Yoshida then as well! Hell, let's blame the people who built the servers, goddamn who-ever-built-the-hardware, fix Driveclub now!
To be fair, you don't think Sony should have provided some better oversight to this game? Especially after it was delayed a year? It seems like it merited more attention and care for its launch.

They didn't follow through on the free streaming movie?

Nope. I was looking up what happened to it a few months ago, and only found a total of around 3 forum and comment posts wondering where it was. No gaming sites followed up on it after posting the PR announcement. The Internet has collectively forgotten about free Epix movies.

Just came back from work, expected nothing and - sony DELIVERED exactly what I expected!

This is #4ThePlayers

lol new update on Facebook... Users who are actually connected will also get connections issues now haha... This is fucking amateur hour.

Lawl. This is going to kill them. Now they're disrupting the minority who are actually playing online? Yeah good luck with that. If they don't fix this soon, the community will be dead. I'd think that this needs to be at least mostly functioning for the paying customers by this weekend.

I'm pretty sure they had good knowledge about the retail and PS+ version and how many players they're expecting (several millions). So my bet is that they were prepared well, but Evolution should have had stress tests to check how their netcode(?) works. If the game is DDoS'ing the servers, what else can you do prior to launch than to have closed beta stress test? Servers died when NA players hopped online. There are less retail players than there are PS+ players, this says a lot about their coding,

But I have no idea how this went through Sony's QA. Rushed launch yet again? And who is actually hosting the servers, Sony or Evolution?

One of the worst game launch of all-time .

It's as if the universe is conspiring against Evo at this point.

Boy did they ever fuck up not doing a large scale beta. Didn't want to risk that negative press or sentiment, but they're getting it 10 fold now.

Would have actually been another nice way to reward PS+ owners. Could have done an exclusive Beta for + and gotten a better idea of the stress the system would undergo when all of us try to download.

The PS+ version should have been released early. Would have been a nice incentive and it could have gotten some stress tests for them.

I agree, if they released Plus edition last month or even two weeks ago they could've iron all these things out and have a perfect launch of the full game.

That's another alternative route they could have taken. Really, they just needed to find a way to test their servers. They knew it was going to have this PS+ thing and millions of potential users, so it was terrible to be so critically unprepared.
PSN was down for like the first 3 weeks SOCOM 4 was out. I think that's probably the worst I can remember.

This is nothing.
That however, revolved around the PSN hack right? This revolves around Evo's blatant incompetence.

That would've been a fantastic idea actually. I'm fairly sure most of us waiting on the PS+ version were on the fence about this game anyway. Letting us beta test it for them would be a two fold service; test their servers, and let us decide whether or not we were gonna buy. And if it was fucked, who cares? It would've been the beta test.

At least that's how I treated the Titanfall and Destiny betas. I helped them test their servers and also decided that those games aren't for me. They launched with relatively minor issues as well.

Has anyone ever officially delayed a game after it's scheduled release before?

Well the actual game is out. The PS+ Edition isn't.

Anyways as for has someone ever done that, I can't remember the name, but I seem to recall some game not being on the shelves or shipping out on release day, and then a few months delay being announced the next day. This was maybe a few years ago.

Maybe Sony's plan is to just hope we forget about Driveclub PS+ Edition the same way we forgot about the time Sony promised PS+ subscribers a free movie a week from the Epix app.

It did happen. Read the comments.

"...you need subscribe to EPIX though your TV service. EPIX usually included in a “Movie-Pack”. Call your provider and see what they officer. Cox is the only provider that will NOT support the Playstation 3 or any other device except for the iPad."

I'm trying to comprehend why you hang out in every DC thread. All you do is shit it up, you seem to have zero interest in the game.

So Sony just announced an extended maintenance on monday which...

1-Sucks for Canada GAF since it's our Thanksgiving so we're home but no PSN
2-Nice for Evolution, they have a 7 hour window where they can relax since for the first time it won't be their fault that the game doesn't work.

There's a maintenance coming up? Link?

Do you own a PS4?
I don't think you do

Yup. See the thread I made about Sony's WWS output.

Assuming your explanation is correct (makes sense to me), how do they fix that?

Assuming it's correct, there are a number of ways to fix it. The first is increasing the amount of servers needed. This can take a while depending on if they have to order them, image them, update them and so on. Another way to do this is to use an existing server farm and configure them to your needs.

The second way to fix it is to reconfigure the netcode the game uses. There may be something wrong with the code that they aren't telling us.

They may need to implement a mix of both.

There could be a problem with how their servers are handling the traffic as well, so some research may be needed to figure out what's wrong there. I can only imagine the long conference calls their network admins and code writers have to join being there's a lot of pressure on them to fix it ASAP.

Anyway, the fact that they're quiet means they're most likely working hard on the problem and we just need to wait for the update... hopefully any time now.

The game is out, just not the PS+ version, which a fair number of people are probably waiting for.

I corrected that post.

Not only that, but has it ever occurred to you that SONY did not provide enough servers? Or that SONY did not anticipate any demand for a racing game, let alone a track racing game. Zipper btw lost their touch with Socom 3 and was at a steady decline from there.
