Driveclub PS Plus Edition Delayed by Server Issues

It did happen. Read the comments.

"...you need subscribe to EPIX though your TV service. EPIX usually included in a “Movie-Pack”. Call your provider and see what they officer. Cox is the only provider that will NOT support the Playstation 3 or any other device except for the iPad."

The press release has this sentence in it:

Additionally, EPIX will be offering a new movie every week that PlayStation Plus members can stream for free, even if they aren’t a subscriber.

After the clusterfuck is over the least thing they could do as an apology for plus users is to reward us with one more country and cars. I hope.

It's really not that simple... Even they wanted to do that (and I seriously doubt that) they would need to create a special DLC specific to that purpose and then test it and submit to Sony. All that takes a lots of time and money.

If the rest of the game was already available in granular DLC (for example from the FREE version you could buy indiviual regions) then it would be much easier to give one for free (which they will still not do).

Just came back from work, expected nothing and - sony DELIVERED exactly what I expected!

This is #4ThePlayers

alright, someone needs to make a gif with "Greatness (spiny circle thing)"

I'm thinking in order for that to happen, the free version would have to be delayed for a significanly longer period of time. Not 3 days.

Resogun, Strider and Trine 2 were all good.

Resogun was great, I agree. But I could have had that at launch with the promo code in the box.

I haven't seen much value outside of Outlast and Strider in the last year, personally. I would drop the service if it wasn't for paid multiplayer

Dang, this shit still isn't up lol. How is it possible to bungle a launch that was already delayed, lol. Also...the longer this goes on the more inclined I am to believe they knew it would happen. Whatever the problem is it obviously isn't minor.

The first delay was game design/gameplay related.

This delay is obviously an un-anticipated network issue. I'm sure they were planning for the entire PS+ subscriber base to hit this games servers, but there's some issue with the server scaling.

It may just require server re-configs, but it may also require an update to the game itself, which won't be turned around in a day.

The idea that they knew it would happen is ridiculous, as this is affecting the people who've paid for the full version also.

Obviously the closed beta did not adequately stress test the system. I wonder why they didn't do a more open beta before launch.

This is something I don't understand. Driveclub isn't delayed. Just buy the game and play it like many of us already do.

Well the actual game is out. The PS+ Edition isn't.

Anyways as for has someone ever done that, I can't remember the name, but I seem to recall some game not being on the shelves or shipping out on release day, and then a few months delay being announced the next day. This was maybe a few years ago.

The game is out, just not the PS+ version, which a fair number of people are probably waiting for.

I corrected that post.

A game was cancelled after it was released.

But Driveclub isn't delayed. It's out and you can buy it.

DriveClub was released on Tuesday, both physical and digital copies.

This thread is about the "free" PS+ version of Driveclub being delayed.

I didn't say that Driveclub was delayed. The PS+ edition has been.

There's really two options here. 1) They knew this would happen and didn't fix it appropriately, making them shady jerks. 2) Or they didn't know this would happen and never bothered to find a way to do large-scale testing of their servers (cough beta test cough), making them incompetent boobs. Obviously, everything points to this being unintentional, which still looks pretty terrible for Evo. It's pretty unforgivable to launch a game so heavily touted for its social features and online component to not work right online.

They did beta test. It just wasn't an open beta.

Load testing is hard. If you think you're gonna have 1 million users, unless you test with 1 million real users, often any testing(which they did do) will not highlight all the bottlenecks.
As they've said their servers are rejecting users above a certain number, whatever that number is, without testing that number, they weren't necessarily going to be able to find this issue.

One of the worst game launch of all-time .

It's as if the universe is conspiring against Evo at this point.

Diablo 3 vanilla that game didnt let anyone connect to their singleplayer game for days.
Every big MMO i have ever played during launch week. For example SWTOR had 14 hour queue's for 2 weeks. lets not even talk about the tiered release based on preorder date.
GTA V online pretty much imploded and didn't go online for atleast a week.

Yes this launch has been handled badly but there have been far worse launches. Sony and Evo should have better prepared themselves for it.

Someone needs to make a website which simply says:

IS DRIVECLUB PS+ EDITION AVAILABLE YET?

YES/NO

Would be quite useful to me so I don't have to keep digging through these threads. I'm currently learning web development now but I'm not at the point where I can automate this.

Diablo 3,every big MMO i have ever played during launch week and GTA V online just to name a few.

Diablo 3's launch troubles were overblown. Besides the weekly matinence people didn't expect (which if you played a Blizzard game in the last decade you would have) it was only down for about 1 1/2 hours after launch and by that evening it was running just fine.

In Europe the servers were a mess for days after launch, sometimes 12 hour periods where nobody could connect because the server was so fucked and it went on for days. I don't think it was any different for the US.

So no they weren't overblown in the slightest.

Have they said what free cars or venues they're adding to make up for the delay?

DriveClub PS+ Edition | OT | We've waited this long

This is the future of games, since we're going to see more and more online-required games and the publishers won't implement any more servers than are needed in normal loads...meaning we're gonna see unplayable games galore.

Right. And not having an open beta was obviously a short-sighted idea. They knew for well over a year that the game was going to be open to all PS+ subscribers on PS4. I don't know the exact number of subscribers, but it's substantial. The game needed some extensive server testing, and it clearly didn't get it.

I don't feel entitled to much, but it'd be a real nice move to give us an extra car or two.

So any time frame are we given? I seriously want to try this out now. Those graphics look too sweet.

Towerfall is worth it alone.

Actually if anything diablo's were worse. At least the people who bought DC can actually play single player.

I'm a plus subscriber and bought the game right away. For 60 usd (how's that even possible? I thought it would cost me 50, but I digress).

Anyway, it's been 3 or 4 days and still could not connect once to the servers. It seems the game doesn't even try. I hit Triangle and immediately get the network error message, I don't think the game tried to reach the servers.

It's awful, awful for a game so heavily touted as a true connected and shared world.

A lot of people in the OT are finally starting to make it online. I'm not so lucky.

You probably bought the wrong version before the blocked the $60 version from PS+ users. You should call Sony and ask for a $10 refund or at least PSN credit back.

The game is always trying to connect you and keep you commected. Triangle is just to open the online hub not a connection try.

Pix the cat yo. It's seriously great.

And damn, playstation plus version still isn't up? I was hoping I could just not care for a few days and it would be available when I remembered to check

What's the premise of this cat game your talking about?
Seriously though, watched only one gif of it, I turned stupid.

I'll download it to pass the time.

Servers just came up for me 6 minutes ago. North East Usa if that means anything to people who haven't been able to get on, since day one. Myself included.
Forgot to mention, got disc version. Some progress on server front, I guess.

I wouldn't be surprised if all the GAFers adding 200+ friends at a time all last week had a part to play in this...Soonys friends lists are dire slow at the best of times...

Throw that on top of DC trying to pull in New friends lists as well as the online influx.. recipe for disaster...

Really want to try Driveclub but no way am I going to fall sucker for their antics. They intend for people to get tired of waiting so that they can sell more copies

At this point, I think you're giving them too much credit for being devious. They aren't. They just had a completely botched and incompetent launch.
