Driveclub PS Plus Edition Delayed by Server Issues

This has become a disaster, very sad for me.

Have you played it?

I repeat, have you played it?

To all those acting like this is some kind of shitstorm of epic proportions, have you played it?

Yes, the online has been a clusterfuck. But the game is not a MMO and has been playable since day 1. It does a lot of things well, do not expect it to be Gran Turismo or Forza, ... it has incredible environments, gorgeous graphics, great semi-arcade/sim gameplay, and has some cool things coming up like free content and dynamic weather.

I'm so tired of people 1) dismissing it entirely due to some of the less than favorable reviews. 2) shitting on it because it is a year late and has server issues.

Just dropping in to add my "no longer interested" comment.

They missed a great window (for being a year late) to provide a nice little demo.

So you will not download the PS+ version when it eventually releases, because it is weeks late?

Wow.

Evolution can't seem to catch a break. Although this time around it's on them.

Hope they can sort it all out soon and the game sells well so they can get another chance to release a game with not many hurdles, hopefully. They have the talent.

Yeah, I wanted to get some time in with it before the Fall horde swallowed me, but they missed the chance to sell me the game. Too late.

No, because by the time it's available, Advanced Warfare will be out. It will nearly be 2015. I'm simply saying they had a small window to tempt me (not a hardcore driving game guy) into buying the full game with a demo, and that window has passed.

Wow yourself. Do you play every game that comes out? Wish I could.

I'll point out to you that this is a thread about how the PS+ Edition, part of a paid PS+ membership, hasn't yet been released.

My comments still apply.

I don't see what Advanced Warfare has to do with Drive Club?

Wow.

How big will the download be, is it impulse levels of big?

A lot of good games are coming down the pipeline. Not everyone has the time to play stuff, even if it's free.

This game really has been a disaster... Remember it was at a dutch gaming event where i went a year ago.. few days later it was delayed. Now the plus editition still seems far of cause i can't see them making this month.. bad pr all around

My comments still apply.

They actually don't at all. This is a thread about people who want to play the free demo using their PS+ edition - of course no one here has played the game. Why would we?

I'm not paying $50 to try a game that I was sold on a hefty, free (with PS+, which I was at the time too) demo at launch of a next gen system that has been delayed for over a year and then had its demo cut.

Fuck the online. Release a single player demo. At this point, it's almost credible some of the goofball theories about holding back the PS+ edition to try to wring more sales out of the full version.

True enough. Doesn't mean DC needs to be dismissed or panned entirely, just because the free version is late or the server situation has been a mess.

Surely you have a right to, but from my own experience with the game I will chime in with my thoughts.

Yeah, my burning desire to try it out has subsided. I'm not mad or sad, but I am totally amazed by how this has proved to be the worst-launching online game of the new console generation despite that fact that it was said to have been delayed a whole year to get that particular part up to snuff. Will try whenever they figure it out and release the demo.

I check this thread every few hours...hoping that the last post will be some announcement like "PS+ Edition to be released in X Days!"

Every few hours...sadness...

I'll point out to you that this is a thread about how the PS+ Edition, part of a paid PS+ membership, hasn't yet been released.

I've noticed this game has some pretty hardcore defenders of it despite all of the massive issues surrounding it's launch. So busy trying to justify their purchase they miss the point.

OT: I have let my PS+ expire now as I only really picked it up for DC to try it out. I find racing games to be either hit or miss for me and need a lure to get me in. So sorry guys but you missed your chance with me now as I have far too many games coming out to make it part of my holiday lineup.

Well since we're not talking about reviews, merely the situation with the delay and the state of the community features, and you're basically telling others there is no situation, that everything was fine four days out except for the normal things any multiplayer game has on a regular basis, I think we know how to regard your take on it.

Unless you think Evolution is just full of it and shit-talking their own game when they describe the progress, or that all the other first-hand issues in the OT2 thread from players right now are made up, I can't say you're being helpful.

I think the time has passed for me to even care about downloading the free version. I'm knee deep in The Evil Within, Forza Horizon 2 and Minecraft: Vita Edition.

Not to me too getting Bayonetta 2 this Friday, Sunset Overdrive next week, Call of Duty Advanced Warfare the week after that, The Master Chief Collection and Assassins Creed Unity the week after that and Dragon Age: Inquisition and Far Cry 4 the following week.

Maybe I'll try this she the entire game is put up as free PS+ monthly game.

I don't see what Advanced Warfare has to do with Drive Club?

Other stuff that they're going to devote their time to? I mean, this release was perfect for early October, there wasn't anything on my radar. But fast forward a couple weeks? AC released RC1 (still fine tuning that personally and will dive into career), Elite Dangerous is getting close to a Beta 3, plus I still haven't done much stuff in 2. Halloween, other stuff ... I mean, it's not that I am not interested, but it falls to the bottom of the "to do" list, I'll probably give it a shot next year and pick it up for $25 if I like it. Or maybe before black Friday and see if there is a sale.

I'm just saying, personally, if I liked it, it had a chance at a purchase. I already spent $50 on gaming stuff and that should last me for a few weeks so it's off the table even if I enjoyed it due to the late release. Plus I got to save a few bucks for DA:I, GTA V, and some other things.

I mean, if I had unlimited funds, I'd drop the money on the full version now just to try it. But I don't. So just like him, 'other' games have everything to do with Driveclub and my purchases.

Absolutly can't believe the above HAVE YOU PLAYED IT?!?!?!? poster. Reminds me of haveyouseentitanfalls???

This is a thread about the PS+ Edition which hasn't even been fucking released yet. GTFO out of here with that garbage. Congrats that it's working for you, perhaps go to the OT2 and discuss it. It's totally cool that you like the game, are enjoying it, and are one of the tiny percentage of people who have had zero problems with the full functionality of the game since four days after release (btw, I'm sure Evolution would love a look at your network configuration). I'm happy to hear that at some point in the totally undetermined future, after I've likely lost all interest in playing, a good game may find its way onto the PSN for me to eventually check out.

But Don't come in here and dismiss every complaint people have about a broken (or non-existent) game. Of course posters in this thread haven't played it - because by the developers own admission, the full game is -so broken- that they can't release th PS+ Edition without further crippling their infrastructure.

I get it. This is a thread where we can judge free releases simply because they're delayed. Not simply the delay itself, but the merits of the game in question. I will stop posting here.

I agree with this guy. Obviously this thread isn't about the full paid version so u can't come in here saying if I played it. Yes I think it'll be a fun game. But I was looking forward to ps+ edition and they failed to deliver.

I don't know. This can't be just a matter of too many people trying to connect to the servers. I doubt this game has sold more than 2 million units or something crazy like that.

How could Evo underestimate their game so bad? Did they think it was only going to sell just 200K or something like that?

If that was the case the solution should be simple, right? Rent more servers, how long should that take?

Maybe the online part of the game has some other issues we don't know about.

This is a shame, the game looks cool. I enjoyed Evo's previous game. After this clusterfuck if the game doesn't sell I can see Sony downsizing the studio or even closing it. And frankly who could blame then? They gave Evo the time and resources they asked to develop it.

I can't believe the PS+ edition is still not up, what a massive fuck up. I don't even game that much but I check here every few days to see if it's gone up, just to give it a quick spin. Unbelieveable, has Sony addressed the community on why there's such a massive delay?

The servers cannot work for the paying customers; no way they are giving out freebies yet.

Well, freebie that requires a paid membership to play, but you're right that it's reasonable to make sure things are solid for standalone purchasers. I think a lot of the incredulity is that there's not even a real ETA, even as far out as we are.

PS Plus is such a big glob of products and services that it's hard to feel entitled to any one aspect being delayed, even when it's announced 1.5 years earlier.

However, I think it reflects very poorly on Sony that they have been so uncommunicative about the situation. The vast majority of their customers won't even realize the developer has made what little statement does exist at this point. Yes, their most urgent responsibility is to the people who've already paid full price, but they do also owe more transparency than this to the many people who subscribed to PS Plus in full or in part due to the ancient promise of a version of DriveClub.

The PS+ isn't a big deal as long as we get it in the next 2-3 weeks. The servers not working is unacceptable considering people paid money for it however. This is the second game that Sony's 1st party teams have botched in some ways, with TLOU being a mess to find games as well as (still) terrible matchmaking for a month and a half until it was resolved. :\

It's up for me. Gives me a link to download in the store.

EDIT: Oops. My mistake.

This is the worst game launch I can remember, ever...beating out the previous worst - BF4 - by a fair margin. Sony and Evo should be embarrassed. What a total cluster-fuck.

Oh now that is just blatantly not true. It'll be two weeks tomorrow, BF4 had months of just not being able to play it right. Lets not let hyperbole get the best of us here.

I would love if they could fix the issues and I could try it out, but not really any skin off my ass if I can't try the PS+ version. People that actually purchased it and it has systems which are hindered because of the servers, those are the ones I actually feel bad for, and they 100% deserve to be compensated since the product does not do what they claimed to do (or at least not well).

Also need to feel bad for Evolution. They were already under the magnifying glass because of not being able to meet the deadline. Now, after being given the time, given more resources, these issues still popped up. It would not surprise me at all if the next studio Sony closes were Evolution, as bad as it is to say that. They just have not pulled their weight in the stables, and it's not like Sony needs another car racing studio (yes yes, Polyphony takes too long between games, but you all know their job is safe).

The embarrassment is amplified because of how simple their social integration/online is. It's basically just leaderboards, something that a lot of games have nowadays without a second thought. I feel bad for Evolution in that they didn't see this coming, but damn the fact that it's taking this long to remedy really sucks.

.

Yes, and I found it to be quite an average game at best. For all the whining about reviewers treating the game unfairly, I think they were spot on. It's an average game that has an overall average score. Not terrible. Not great. Just average. And the sad part of all of this is that it was reviewed with the online components functioning. Without that functionality, what was once an average game is now bordering on terrible. Especially given the delay and the development team's own stated vision for the game.

Sure, a let down. But s*** happens, right? I am sure that Sony isn't doing it to piss people off. I honestly can't think of a single major release that depended heavily on servers that launched smoothly.
By smoothly do you mean with literally no issues, or without big issues? Because there are a ton of Xbox/PC games that launched smoothly in either case.

I can say one thing about Evolution's bunking of Driveclub. It pushed me towards Forza Horizon 2 and for that I'm thankful. That game is the fucking tits. This game has missed it's opportunity in my opinion.

I disagree the game is excellent imo.

Went on to play a little more, today. Servers came on for a few minutes then disappeared again. Racing against others is still broken when you get penalties for their acts. Also, no penalties, sometimes, for smashing into others (human or AI). Please fix this game, Evolution.

...no, no it's not "basically just leaderboards".

Critique away, but keep the arguments honest, please.

You mean the free release i pay a monthly sub for.

The thing you forget is that you don't pay for that specifically. Oh sure you might have bought a sub because they said you would get the PS+ version, and as long as it goes up their part of the contract is fulfilled. But really, take some time to read through the EULA most of us just scroll to the bottom and click ok to.

Wow.

Perhaps people were looking forward to the community based racing features that were promoted for the game since the announcement with constant online interaction with friends and club members. I know I was. That was the major selling point for the game for me and it barely functions, so it is fair criticism.

While I am thoroughly enjoying the driving aspect, I am highly disappointed by the inconsistent online functionality.

Regarding the PS+ front, I do think the same people are going way overboard. It will come when it comes and I would hope that Evolution would increase the amount of content that the PS+ version will include.

Its literally so screwed up that the dev won't let me play the version every ps plus member paid to try. So no, I haven't played it because it's fucking broken. I want too to play it, but no way in hell I'll buy the extra 80% when the 20% I paid for already is too broken to play.

You got in on Plus for driveclub?

If they released this at launch to the reviews it received I would definitely have bought it.

If the plus version launched A couple of weeks ago when it was supposed to and I liked it I would have almost certainly upgraded (but it didn't so I bought Alien:Isolation instead)

If it launches anytime from now there's pretty much no chance I'm going to upgrade, I'm not a big driving game guy and there's too many other games I'm more interested in out before Christmas and early next year even.

This clusterfuck of a non launch has probably cost them millions in lost sales and the fact it's still not working properly now for the people who bought the full game without any plus version users trying to connect is embarrassing.

This is sad.

Not having the game working is disappointing. But to say nothing to the PS Plus subscribers beyond "no news yet" is equally so.
