Driveclub PS Plus Edition Delayed by Server Issues

Hopefully Sony will learn to use their blog to communicate with their customers in a more timely manner. At least we have some idea what they're working on now.
No idea how they thought silence or some obscure Facebook post would suffice.

Oh shit, we got some logic up in here...

I don't know how people can't come to this conclusion. It's not a very difficult concept to grasp.

I'd imagine there's some segregation between servers. The psn servers, the servers you download from, are not the servers that you play driveclub on. The psn servers, id imagine, are capable of handling the psn subscribers and their downloading month in and month out. I.e, there shouldn't be a problem with letting people download and play offline. The issue probably revolves more around the fact that they want to ease the driveclub servers back online slowly, not having those that downloaded psn versions jumping online with the paid copy players all at once.

Who pays more, the people who spent $50-60 on the full edition of the game or the people who pay less than $5 a month for PS+. IT doesn't even matter, even if they were able to release it right this second it would take at least a day to download considering even now it takes 15-20 hours to download for people who are just buying the game.

Your argument has nothing to do with what I said. I don't know what your intentions were but you are just stating that people who pay full price for the game pay more than PS+ owners, which no one disagreed with.

Could it mean that tomorrow it will be fixed? Hopefully we will have the Plus version till friday.

My guess is that the "update" they talk about tomorrow will be more or less discussing an action plan moving forward, which will be implemented over a few days time. I'd be surprised if everything is 100% before the end of the weekend, to be honest. This reminds me a lot of the Sim City problem, although in that case they were actually adding physical servers and bringing them online one at a time. Not sure if Evolution needs to do the same - or if they can simply fix their existing server pool

Man, this Driveclub launch has been really rough. Tepid reviews, no PS+ edition (which I was really looking forward to), and downed servers for the main game. I was really upset with the PS+ debacle (and the lack off games I want to play) and have been considering selling me PS4 and picking up an Xbox One.

I figure I might as well just hold out for a bit longer, but man, Sony better up their standards to ensure this doesn't happen again. They've lost a lot of good will from me.

I'm looking for a second one for my family room. Sell it.

Not sure if serious.heh

Is it really PSN itself or the dev's servers causing the ruckus? I mean, shouldn't we wait for the update to see what's going on before we jump to conclusions?

Believe me, I normally am the last person to grab my pitchfork but there have been other incidents with PSN, even since PS+ has been required for PS4 users. For 18 months we have been promised a free version of Drive Club with a PS+ subscription.

I want to see Sony succeed. I bought PS4 day 1 mainly because of Sony standing up for the gamer. However, I want to see PSN take that next step in being reliable and so far I haven't seen it.

So do I. If incidents like this continue I might not re up next July
Youre free to do what you want of course but this will happen again, not just with PS+ titles but with every other online game. Something you just gotta accept.
After Diablo 3 I dont expect to play any game that relies heavily on online to be playable until a few days after launch. Some people are saying Battlefield wasnt playable even a month after(didnt they get sued or something?)

No. No. No. Absolutely not. We do not have to accept this. We should not be terrible and passive consumers just taking what the corporations do to us.

PS+ subs get the full version for free as an apology, that would be good news.

:lol

So they give you a $50 upgrade for free because they delayed what is effectively a limited demo.

I would care more about all this if the game didn't look absolutely underwhelming. The Giant Bomb quick look pretty much drained the last bit of excitement I had about this game.

But what you're saying doesn't have much to do with Evolution's delay of this version of the game.

Yes, the delay sucks and it shouldn't have happened, but if we are playing the blame game, I really don't think it's the fault of PSN itself. I'm sure we will know more tomorrow.

you should play it for yourself

Botched software launches occur all the time. Games with heavy online features are susceptible to this as well. In this case, it's outside of the corporation's hands and in the hands of the devs to fix it. And they will.

In that case, we still don't have to accept dev incompetence. Saying "Oh it's natural" doesn't really fly with me. Especially with this game in particular wherein they took an extra year to spruce up the title.

It may not fly with you but it's the reality of developing software and a risk you accept as an end user/gamer. At least they saw the problem and decided not to make it worse for everyone else.

The auto connect code is unlikely to be a culprit here; they hinted at, then jjust outright confirmed that it's a lack of server resources issue.

I don't see any confirmation that the auto-connect code, which is standard fair these days, is overly aggressive to be on it's own causing a problem.

They need more servers according to their own admission, and the rather obvious state of the situation. The fact they couldn't immediately respond indicates they aren't hosted on a dynamic cloud. Or at least not one with any more room lol. The fact that lots of people are also causing "Please sir, may I have some Session?" is never going to make a full server very happy, but the fact they are claiming sessions are fine for those actually connected leads me to believe they are gracefully handling the requests... it's just.. too much.

You're right, but that wasn't my point. My point was that if the game didn't connect online automatically, they could at least release the PS+ version and have people playing single-player mode while we wait for the servers to go up. But they can't do that, because the game will flood their servers with connections the second all the PS+ subscribers get it.

If there was a 'single-player' / 'online' split, then people could just accept that the online isn't up at the moment and chill. Would still be negative, but it would be an option.

I have absolutely no idea how they're going to scale this thing up. No matter when they choose to release the PS+ version it's going to be an absolute flood on their servers. If they can't scale for launch, I just can't see them getting this right anytime soon.

Not saying this isn't a crappy situation all round.

But peoples expectations regarding PS+ subs ==> perfect PSN are a bit ridiculous.

The service costs the same as when PSN was free, and you're still getting free games each month, across 3 platforms. Granted we're not up to the point where you're getting a full sized PS4 releases, but we're less than a year into PS4's lifecycle.

People act as if their entire PS+ sub was meant to go towards dedicated MP Servers. This isn't XBL(pre GWG).

Sony: Standing up for the gamer*

Pretty sure Driveclub has single player as well that can be played offline.

This was his point. He's implying Sony should allow us to download and play the SP content.

Im sure they want everyone to have the full experience before releasing it though, makes perfect sense to me anyway

Dev. This is why Destiny launch when smootly. They had the experience

Maybe bungie is still have a deal with microsoft and use azure

Can't tell if serious. The Destiny launch was shit. I am still experiencing dropped games, chat issues, and login errors on the *gasp* Xbone.

I have come to expect online issues for the first few weeks after a new game drops regardless of how much testing went into the alpha and beta.

Gotta make as much money as you can before you drop the free ps+ version.

It doesn't work like this. Especially considering those of us who have paid for the game don't have access to the online features yet.

The games get downloaded from Sony's servers on PSN? Right?

So why not get the PS+ edition out and since there already are network connectivity issues, atleast they would be able to play offline...

Evolution hasn't progressed far enough to make smart decisions
