Driveclub PS Plus Edition Delayed by Server Issues

Forza Horizon 2 has an option to disable collisions in multiplayer races so you just ghost through opponents which would do wonders for Driveclub MP as it's more focused on time trials anyways.

This would make the multiplayer usable.. anyone who hasn't gotten into a public match yet, your in for a treat.

lol, every time this thread is bumped I get excited thinking I can download the game now

Not excited enough to buy the retail version though :P

Short of this game selling multi millions of copies Evo is definitely going to be closed down. I do hope the employees see the writing on the wall and have been sending out resumes and networking.

Sony has closed down studios for much less and this major F-up by Evo is actually bad enough to deserve it.

I havent seen an online game that fixes this. It seems to happen every time in online races, but no one seems to predict it nor have a solution for it.

I wish there was a good destruction derby or even a next gen Burnout game, at least they are made to crash.

In GT5 there were rooms with proper racing, otherwise you'd be kicked, and you'd also have the rooms titled something like "Destruction derby/Dirty Racing" if you wanted to mess about... it can be done. And someone mentioned how FH2 has options to make the cars ghost on impact to avoid collision, that could work. .. I've only played in 3 online matches, but they were 3 different rooms with fresh groups of players, and on these narrow tracks, it was complete chaos.

I agree unfortunately its over for them. You don't fuck up a launch this badly. If you can't to your job right then welp....

This reminds me of the Twisted Metal launch like mentioned in that other thread.

Literally no sympathy. I hope they fold. I was promised the PS+ edition at launch, and offers like that influenced my console decision. Then it was delayed and I still waited patiently, and now I still don't have my promised game.

Let them burn.

Remember Evolutions previous launch?

Motorstorm Apocalypse? Remember the timing on that launch?

Yeaaaaaaah. Evolution = bad luck.

Many games have this, but then you might aswell do time trial if there is no interaction with other players...

Wow. You hope dozens of people lose their jobs because you didn't get a free "demo" version of a game on time? What an entitled attitude. This thread is unreal.

This.

It sucks about the game´s issues and the PS+ version, I hope they sort it out soon, yes they are taking a lot of time, so it seems to me this is not a bug, it has to be a design issue in the MP that needs to be reworked. I want the PS+ version but I just hope the best for the studio.

I'm still looking forward to playing the PS+ Edition, and possibly grabbing the full release if it "scratches the itch." I hate that this is a novel thing to say at this point. The situation is annoying, but if a decent game comes out of it, I'm here for that.

Yea, if this was a launch game and these were the issues, this would still be unacceptable. Hell, battlefield got crucified for six months.

But the fact that it was delayed a year to focus on the problems that we are having now will result in the studios closure in the near future unless sales went beyond expectations.

No interaction ?, your still racing them in real time for position. It mightn't be the most ideal solution. But without it, its not even racing right now, its a deathmatch.

What a shit post, wishing for people to get fired.

I'm pretty sure a new thread will be made when it finally launches.

Why the online is so problematic? I mean, during development no one thought "Ehy, with PSPlus edition we will have MILLIONS of players at the same time, how can we handle this, plus retail users?".

I mean, HOW?

Open beta would have fixed it, couple weeks before hand, let all PS+ users who won a PS4 play it if they chose, it would have solved the issue for the retail purchases and it could have been an (even more) stripped down version of the PS+ version, one car, one track or something, just to test this kind of stuff.

With being the first major online-enabled freebie for PS+ users I don't understand why they didn't.

You'd want people to lose their jobs and face all kinds of emotional and financial hardship just because you didn't get a free demo of a game? Fuck me. What is wrong with you?

Sure Evo dropped the ball, but they didn't set out to fuck things up. I can assure you, no matter how upset you are at the DC launch, the guys and girls at Evo are a whole lot more upset about it. Driveclub represents a huge amount of investment for them. What would it be to you? A couple of hours driving around a track?

Evo are a great studio. They speak to their community and make great games. Mistakes happen.

#dealwithit

I wouldn't be so sure about their demise just yet. They've still got a couple of big updates planned before end of year for this game (dynamic weather and photo/replay mode) which personally I always saw the availability of those as marking the official launch of this game. Without those, this always seemed more like a soft/beta launch of the game to begin with.

So, if those two updates slip sometime into next year then, yeah, Evo's in major trouble.

They went through a not entirely dissimilar situation when they released the first Motorstorm on PS3. Missed launch for US buyers, came out Japan only with no online MP initially, and then it was months of updates to really get the game running properly. It wasn't until the second game that they really nailed everything down. And with MS they also had to contend with the much bigger credibility gap they set for themselves based on the original CG concept trailer for the game.

This is the only way we get a PS+ version this year.

Doit.gif
They won't, because it's obvious reading all of you that this game is doomed.
It couldn't even be a slow burner if they fixed the server issues, because we all know that racing games are a genre that's quickly out fashioned, right?
As Sony cannot do anything but closing Evolution Studios down in the short term, I don't think it's even necessary they try to fix the current situation or release the PS+ edition of the game.
Sony can refund us all and get us Knack as a compensation, I mean.

how do you cope day to day in the real world? grow up.

So much doom and gloom.

Evo will be fine. Sony won't be shuttering them any time soon. This was an unforeseen incident and while it's disappointing for all involved, it will be forgotten if Evo can get it back on track within the next week or so.

Even if they don't, it will still be forgotten thanks to the Autumn/Winter games rush. People will forget about the games existence and that works perfectly for Sony/Evo while they work away on fixing the issues and re-release the game in the new year with the Plus version and some free DLC.

Wow. Not cool. Wishing layoffs on anyone is quite barbaric. I'm sure Evo is reading this -- Have some respect!

It isn't a free demo. Is is a limited edition of a game that I pay for via my PS+ subscription, and like it or not was part of my decision to go with a PS4. Knowing I'd be able to get my fill of a driving game like this without spending $60 helped push my decision. There's no entitlement here, this is something that is part of the subscription I pay for.

Survival of the fittest. A studio that made these promises and didn't come through doesn't deserve to be in business. I don't place developers on this pedestal much of GAF does, and the fact that I was promised something nearly a year ago and that swayed my console decision yet it still hasn't been provided isn't acceptable.

Calm down, bro.

It's not a great situation, but they are undoubtedly trying their hardest to get the game working and to deliver on their promise to get the Plus version out as soon as possible.

It's an inconvenience at best and it's one you'll probably receive access to some free DLC for.

So just relax. No need to call for anyone's head or call for the studio to be shuttered.

Damn this is scathing. I really didn't have much sympathy for Evo because no one (hopefully) put a gun to their head to release their game in this state but now I feel bad for them.

Seriously. This is a bad situation for everyone from the studio to the players but I wouldn't want anyone to lose their job just because my driving game fix was temporarily inconvenienced. There's tons of other games to play right now.

I'd really have to see these lines you're reading.

They said that they have as much leeway as they want with server numbers. They've said that both server "updates" and "upgrades" have gotten people back online and allowed more people online. It sounds to me that their is a bunch of serverside code updating and physical upgrades going on.

I guess I made a bad assumption then.

It's based on them saying the issue is not enough server resources for sessions.. they outright said if their is room for a session a user can connect, and that any connected user should be fine (that was their initial statement.) Those things don't occur when a server is being "DDOS'd" as everyone keeps repeating.

That led me to believe that simply expanding the servers available would ease the problem.. why wouldn't it? They made the issue sound so simple in their first several updates. It seemed to me either they weren't being very honest (which is possible, and not a big deal, they don't have to reveal everything) or they didn't have the ability to expand. (and I have a lot of experiencing troubleshooting complicated code architectures)

I didn't say that I hope they close. I said I have no sympathy and deserve to. That isn't the same thing as hoping for it.

Games I'd have to buy separately to play because the one included in the subscription I already pay for isn't available. I pay for PS+ so I can spend less on other games. It is the only reason I have it.

Except that, they never said that the delay was to work on online components...

And things have vastly improved here : Today the MP was near flawless without disconections

Has the version of the game I paid for and was promised been made available yet?

No?

Then things are not vastly improved.

At the end of the day they need to be held accountable and that might require some people to lose their jobs. I don't want the studio closed but this situation is absolutely insane. Its basically a case study on how not to launch a game.

From the very beginning when it was announced I was very wary of the PS+ version. I didn't understand how it made sense to do and there were too many unanswered questions regarding what would happen to the game if you bought it with the PS+ discount and let your subscription lapse so I just went ahead and payed full price for the retail version.

While I feel bad for anyone that got a PS+ subscription specifically for this game and were looking forward to playing it I'd also be pretty pissed if they launched the PS+ version before fixing all of the issues in the full priced version first.

This situation has created separate camps of consumers with different opposing priorities really. It makes me think that Sony is going to be very cautious about attempting something like this again.

I'd hate to see how you react when your toilet clogs up or when any other real world problem happens.

But yeah this is a mild inconvenience , I was pretty hyped about playing this a month ago. I'm also waiting for Sony to fix that PvZ issue.

Dude, being argumentative helps nothing.
You know he's referring to the retail game improving.

But this thread is about the PS+ edition delay.

While I feel bad for anyone that got a PS+ subscription specifically for this game and were looking forward to playing it I'd also be pretty pissed if they launched the PS+ version before fixing all of the issues in the full priced version first.

It wasn't the only reason I got PS+, but it was a large factor. After buying a Forza every couple years and playing for 4 or 5 hours, the idea of getting a similar game without doing so and with enough content for me was appealing, and was one of the many factors that caused me to go PS4 over One.

People can be dismissive of that if they want, but it remains my reality. I was promised something and it was not provided, something I pay for, so I'll remain salty and unsympathetic to the developers here.

I'd hate to see how you react when your toilet clogs up or when any other real world problem happens.

As a consumer I do not consider not getting something I paid for a "mild inconvenience".
