Driveclub PS Plus Edition Delayed by Server Issues

You would think that it would come with Novembers plus games now, although if the servers are still just barely coping with people who bought the retail game I dread to think what would happen if it gets released to 7-8 million playstation plus users

No way is there that many PS4 PS+ members, plus like others have mentioned I think it's more than a server issue because it's not working fully without any PS+ members which I'm sure they calculated into demand (3 million?).

Sony really do have egg on their face after this.

Time is ticking to get this out in October for the PS+ schedule they promised everyone.

It's a code issue as Rushy as stated before. They have as many servers as they need.

I'm surprised by the amount of outrage this gets.
When BF4 had wonky servers the internet was on fire.
DC isn't even working half as good as BF4 did and the promised PS+ edition is nowhere to be seen, but I rarely read about it.

I understand that there is natrually less outrage because DC sold considerably less than BF4, but at least gaming media could give Sony a bit more crap.

I would be surprised if that was something dictated by Sony. Given how much support they've given Evolution to push Driveclub really hard as a definitive product, it'd be very odd if they then turned around and didn't offer Evolution the server infrastructure they were asking for.

Not impossible - I've known pubs make some pretty strange decisions! - but certainly unexpected.
Its certainly dictated by Sony, its almost pure funding. Honestly, it wouldnt suprise me if evolution is still treated as second tier within Sony.

The game was getting a push but so did trash like SF. Its not like there was an abundance of AAA titles in the window where this game was supposed to come out.

That was the initial message but everything theyve given since then is about server upgrades and adding servers.

Its likely a combination of both.

If you're waiting for the PS+ version you've not put anything down. The only people losing out are Evo because they've not got potential customers playing.

As for people who bought it. I'm pretty upset it didn't work but hey I'm still doing timetrials and have had enough fun to justify my time and money so hey there's that.

Part of the outrage around BF4 amongst the gaming forums IIRC is that when it was being tested (beta, alpha), the game has obvious issues. EA chose to ship a broken product and knew it was broken.

DC is weird. The beta as far as I know had no issues. So they shipped thinking there would be no problems. It's on them for not having larger beta, but I guess it seems less "malignant" since it's not EA (who everybody irrationally hates no matter what).

Isn't there some way they can lock out the Online features of the game until they can get the problem fixed? Of course, they should offer some compensation for the inconvenience to those who bought the retail version, like the first dlc pack for free or something. I realize that playing this game without an online component is shitty but at least you could still play it.

As it is it's the lesser evil, until they can find the root of the problem and fix it. If they say they have the servers they need then the fault lies with Evo, so they need to get on that shit asap. Don't keep delaying the game, release it with the online portion locked out, make it a barebones arcade/free mode or something. Something just to show that everyone will eventually get the game and it won't be kept getting pushed back till november or december.

I'm not a huge fan of racing games but I can feel the frustration of both those who bought the retail version and the ones who are waiting for the PS+ version.

If locking out the online portion is a stupid proposition then I apologize, but I haven't even tried the game yet so I don't know how feasible is that, just throwing it out there that playing something would be better than nothing at all.

Sorry Evo. Driveclub moneys have officially been reassigned to the Destiny Expansion.

I actually wanted DC, and followed it from before launch, and through the long delay. I was committed to buying the upgrade. Then this shit happened.

Destiny, OTOH, was completely off my radar. I didn't care about it until the alpha fell into my lap. It won me over, though I had no intention of buying the expansion. Then this shit happened.

This is a colossal disaster. It's not like this is an IP from a dev that everyone has to wait for. I have to imagine this is going to lose a lot of sales. This is turning into an albatross of a game. PEACE.

I am completely done with the retail version. I'm a PS+ member, though, so I am waiting for my free edition like most everyone else.
Huh? If you've played the retail version, you've already played anything the Plus version will have. It's 11 courses - all set in India and you have access to 10 cars and the same events you've already played. There's literally no reason for you to be anticipating the free version.

Did a bomb go off in the server building? I'm trying to wrap my head around how this game is not functional almost three weeks after release.

It's sad, because it's a solid game, but the online stuff is the selling point. I bought retail at launch and may just sell it back and be done with it.

It's awful to treat paying customers like this: they've advertised a product for Plus service and yet there's no trace of it on the store, at the very least keep the customers up to date and try to have conversation going.
Do THAT at least ffs.

Maybe he has (wisely) sold the retail version?

I got a refund for the full digital version.

Then I have even less sympathy for him.

I couldn't care less about your sympathy. I wasn't seeking it.

Why is this game online only? I wonder what people without internet will do with this game?

There are lots of online only games and usually people without internet, at least the ones with working brains, obviously don't buy them.

I see zero problem with that, really.

Having said that, DC is not online only.

Well, they're only hurting themselves. I haven't given them a penny, and I won't until I can try the game out. I'm still not sold on the game (online issues aside), this was going to be my "demo" to decide if I wanted to buy the full version. That hasn't changed, I'm not going to cave and buy it anyway.

Game is out now :) didn't think I would see the day! Just looked at the Dutch PS store and there it was. Now downloading.

You got my hopes up. Nothing in the UK store. Is this the free PSN + version you're talking about? the full discounted version has always been there to buy.

Show me in the post where it says I never played it. Or just continue to be an ass.
The part where you said you got a refund immediately?

edit:: Or you played the game, got a refund, so essentially played the entire game free of charge. Seems like you got the ultimate PS Plus edition.

Keep digging through my post history. Maybe you'll find the one where it says they refunded me but didn't remove the license to the digital version.
So you got it free.

Have they said what was the problem? While I don't own the game, I'm genuinely curious as to what could be this crippling to their online systems.

You mean beyond damaging their reputation and image in the minds of consumers worldwide?

It definitely doesn't make them look good now, but I think it's what they do next that will determine how much damage is done to their reputation. IMO everyone who had PS+ this month should be given a free month of PS+ whenever the PS+ version does eventually come out.

Pfff.. It's a bit better now but still completely shit online. Too many errors and disconnections. Even complete gamecrashes.

And in a couple of days people will be playing CoD and will never look back. Well maybe in december when the weather hits.

Still no plus edition yet? This is probably the most disastrous launch of Sony games to date. They will likely break the promise, lose many potential buyers, and the game will be fade away when many big titles hit next month. Great job Evo.
