Driving in russia (video)

Sounds like a good time to tell a story of my dad's driving antics.

I was born in Russia and the family came to America when I was two.

Anyway, STORY TIME.

*My dad when he was in his 20s*

On the road one day with his friend

They see this driving school car, one of his friends is in it with the instructor

They wave to each other, driving instructor tells him to keep his eye on the road not his friends

My dad sees this

So when his friend looked over again, he faked his hands on the wheel to make it look like he was turning left/right REALLY hard

Friend panics and drives off the road into a tree

He fails the test

They didn't talk much to each other after that day

Another thing my dad used to do is call his friend who was a cop, he would need a ride or just wanted to go somewhere, his buddy would turn on the sirens and drive to where they needed to go like a bat out of hell. Seeing this kind of stuff is pretty shocking but has been happening for a very long time.

Christ. All Hollywood needs to do is set up a few cameras there and they have free footage for just about every action scene they could possibly need.

Action movie directors should watch this for inspiration. This video compilation had me saying WTF ten times more than any recent movie.

I've heard that in Moscow drivers don't use their lights but use NVGs when they drive during the dark. Cold War era NVGs are supposedly really cheap.

Russia is a crazy place.

"Pedestrians vs Cars in Russia" is another interesting video. It's quite brutal, though.

Lots of those people clearly get killed. Horrible to watch. The leaders in Russia don't value human life though so it's not surprising this is allowed to happen.

I don't know why but I'm DYING at a bunch of these clips. Some of em are straight up random and the chain of events afterwards just kills me.

Is it just me or do some of these cars just randomly say "Fuck it, I don't want to drive in this world anymore."?

That's the best part. 40+ mile straight road? EFF IT, LEFT TURN!

And now I understand why car makers are so delighted with Russia's auto sales.

Sometimes I wonder if the country was ready for this whole automotive thing.

Also, vodka.

The fucking weirdest part of all of this is that nobody ever fucking reacts to whats happening. Nothing. Just mute silence. What the fuck?

my friend told me that nobody wears seatbelts over there

This is true, from what I witnessed.

I've gone three different times adopting my two kids. I don't think I ever saw any of our drivers wear a seatbelt, and they usually weren't even out for use in the back seat.

They drive wherever they can find room, screw the lines painted on the road. At a break in a median to turn left, they don't line up - they all cram into the space as a mob and whoever has the guts to go first makes their turn. If there is a space between two cars at a red light, a car will squeeze between them, straddling the white line.

We drove and parked on the sidewalk at least three times to stop and markets.

So yeah, I've been a passenger in cars in Russia, but I don't EVER want to drive there.

Man what an amazing video, and after meeting a bunch Russians, this is totally how i expected driving in Russia would look like.

This should be the theme for the next "Need for Speed".

Driving through russia, with insane shit happening all the time without warning.
Could be a creative goldmine!
