DS...Best System Since SNES?

Sure Castlevania is awesome, but the DS still needs to get alot more quality games before it can be put ahead of systems like the PS2 and PS1.

But I doubt that will ever happen.

There ya go typical GAF Ninbot. Go figure he would call DS the best system....funny shit :P
I never denied I was a Ninbot. But I am not stupid I buy PS2 and Xbox games as well.

You can't be serious? Come on dude, look I realize there has been some good "Official" announcements for the DS today (most of which we have already known about) and I know Nintendo fans take news and just go apeshit with it but this thread and the most of the other threads are hitting Nintendo Forums status. I read the announcements and I can't wait to play quite a few of these games on my DS but again the N-bots in this forum just make me sick to even join in on any discussion.

The one that put Nintendo third in the marketplace, creating defensive fanboys like you who are deeply, deeply in denial. The one that brought 3D gaming to the mainstream. The one that created a 2,000-game library and spawned several movies?

Yeah, that one.

You know, just because Sony didn't attach a bunch of gyros and touch screens to the PS doesn't mean that they didn't contribute to the evolution of gaming.

Once upon a time, in a Mushroom Kingdom, there was a company named Nintendo that ruled the videogame world with classic gameplay, bright colors and a 3rd party iron fist.

Then the PS1 came out.

The End

"What impact"

The nostalgia is strong in this thread. The best system will always be whatever current system has the best support and biggest library of games. That is a fact.

:lol :lol :lol No, no, no, no, no....no.

Oh Lord. Nintendo fans are so easy to get worked up over, its hilarious.

This has all the makings of a classic Ntard thread:

- Dismissing the impact of PlayStation (over 190 million consoles sold between 1 and 2 and growing)
- Blind, idiotic nostalgia
- One good day of DS announcements somehow beats out on 5 good years of SNES gaming.

PS2 is the best ever for BC alone. PS1 + PS2 >>>SNES>>>>>>GBA>>>>>>>>>>DS

I wouldn't say you "hit a soft spot" so much as you "convincingly played an N-bot." Since you are one by your own admission, there's not much to lol about. Maybe you should be sad that people credit you with so little intelligence?

Aren't you forced to rebuy all your old NES+SNES+N64+GCN games for Rev though? It would be cool if you could somehow prove that you own the game and download it for free on Rev though...but I guess that would only work in theory, if even that. :P

Nah, it plays your old GC disks.

NES/SNES/N64 games you still have to rebuy, though.

How should I be sad that people credit me with so little intelligence going by that post? It was a joke, and it should've been perceived as one, you obviously don't think anyone can deny the impact of the Playstation, do you? It's historical, don't be silly. I just felt like saying "What impact." It sounded funny and ignorantly defiant.

Now, where was I.

Ah yes. DS am winner. :D

I love how I am being bashed for being an Ninbot when Playstation and Xbox fanboys are the ones bashing me. I never bashed either of those groups but apparently bashing other groups and being hateful of other games is not as bad as being an Ninbot. I shared my OPINION for Christ sake and I am hated. Dontcha' love gaming politics?

No. :P

PS1 is the best system since SNES and there's yet to be anything better.

Although Dreamcast came close.

But really, to people LOLing, there's nothing wrong with thinking DS is better than SNES. It's just an opinion. But if the DS lineup continues to get awesome games announced for a few years, I'd say it'd a good bet for the best handheld ever.

Why can't a non-current gen system be someone's favorite? Isn't automatically disqualifying them all and only counting what is still getting new software reacting too quickly? I so don't get this "omg nostalgia!!" reaction from people.

Because nostalgia tends to warp peoples minds into thinking something was better than it actually was.

And deciding about something that is only a few months old (less or more, depending on what the subject is), before it has the chance to stand up to other stuff isn't the warping of someone's mind? It seems like it could go both ways...playing a game 10 years ago and never again and remember how good it was compared to having a game for a month and forming your 'definitive' opinion of it aren't similar?

What exactly equates to something being nostalgia and not a non-nostalgic belief? I get called out on it by some people and it goes over my head..almost all the old stuff I remember fondly I still actively play quite often. Is that still nostalgia if I liked a game when I was 8 and played through it last week and still have a total blast with it? *doesn't understand*

It just seems like any time someone mentions something from before some era (usually pre-PS1), it is almost universally dismissed as "nostalgia", which for some people it isn't just remembering something from elementary school, its from earlier in the month.

I am not trying to be defensive/offensive, I just don't get what's being said and used for the term and how it is so dismissed compared to people saying BEST GAME EVAR to a game 2 weeks after it has been released, and no one thinking twice about it. Help!

Then again I've never said anything was 'best ever', and can't even make up a top 10 list of favorite games. :/

Did I say that? Man, I gotta stop making these stealth posts by accident. While you're at it, maybe you could point out how the DS FO' SHO' beats the PS2? As that seems like a hasty generalization pulled out of your cavernous asshole.

I think nostalgia happens when you are doing something (in this case playing games) at a time when you were carefree and happy (in alot of cases when you were a kid). So when ou peg someone for being nostalgic blinded for saying the SNES was the best system ever, the nostalgia accusation s probably true if they were a child at the time of the SNES. Also, if you are still having fun with an old game. It's probably nostalgia helping that enjoyment. I can still play say Castlevania 4 and love it. But if I never played it before and just recently tried it, I would probably find it too basic to be enjoyable. I can distinguish when I'm genuinely liking a game or just liking it because it was something I enjoyed when I was a kid.

Not only that, but for liking all great games, most of which end up on a lot of people's "best games ever" lists.

I'm sure if they were all Capcom games, you'd be treated the same. ;]

I <3 GAF!!

The insults created because someone's opinion is different than your own. Everyone is so defensive. Next year's E3 is going to be a blast; chaos, destruction, and death... before the first screenshot is even released.

The Experiment:
If BC alone makes the PS2 superior to everything, then how can the GBA be ">>>>>>>>>>" to the DS? It doesn't make any logical sense. You shouldn't be so quick to use the "tard" suffix.

They also seem to act like I have no gaming experience. Just because I like Nintendo BEST doesn't mean I have seething hatred for Sony or Microsoft. Which they seem to do for Nintendo. Would my top 10 list cause them to block me if it was this?

1. ICO
2. Final Fantasy Tactics
3. Amplitude
4. Dark Cloud 2
5. Gran Turismo 4
6. Crash Team Racing
7. Final Fantasy VII
8. Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal
9. Twisted Metal 2
10. The Mark of Kri

Oh yeah, thats right. It's all Sony published so its ok. :lol :lol

The Castlevania part seems pretty similar to my experience with FF3; it just didn't captivate me.

Hm, some stuff I still genuinely like quite a lot (old DQ/FF games or the remakes of them), others I have fond *memories* of, but rarely actually go back and go through (like RE1,2,CV, some NES/SNES games). I don't consider actively playing through a game because I like it, not because it was cool a lot of years ago as not nostalgic..the other case of "yeah that game OWNED, but I probably won't play it again anytime soon" seems to be what 'nostalgia' means to me. Is my thinking incorrect?

Case in point: I was talking to someone on IRC about my favorite FF games, in which 1,4,6 are among my favorite ones. It was noted by the other person that those were mainly 'release' date ones and said it was nostalgia talking.

I don't agree, as even though FF1 was my first NES game, I did not play it from about 1994-1999 (I lost my NES cart) until the Wonderswan Color remake came out, and I had a whole ton of fun with it, and later on the PS version (I did all 12 solo games about a month after the JP version came out on PS1). In all, I probably played through the NES version about the same number of times I have played the remakes of it (and other later bought versions like the Famicom one). I can't remember how much fun I had the whole time with the NES one, but I went totally bonkers on the WSC then PS1 one, and still play both versions usually every few months (I was planning on trying a speed run of the PSX one at one point). That doesn't seem like nostalgia to me in that game's case.

FF4 doesn't seem to fit it either, as I first got the game to own at around 1995 (I would rent it every few weeks for about a year), then the 'hardtype' version in 1997 and have never played the US version since, and have probably gone through some version of the game about 60 times since 1991; 30+ since 1997. I think I genuiniely love going through the game, not because of it being old, but because of it being something I know I will have a lot of fun going through literally any time I turn it on.

FF6 though, I did get at release, and played it every day from Christmas day until the next May; and I lost count at 38 times through in 1996. Since I got into the Dragon Quest games again (didn't play them at all from about 93-99), I think I have played through 6 about 4 times total; it doesn't get me "pumped" anymore, but I have fond memories of it. I still think it's a wonderful game, but not something I'd just stop what I am doing/playing and pop it in. This game falls under nostalgia in my mind.

Any help? Am I totally lost in an imaginary world of comfort? *confused*

IMO what you are talking about ain't nostalgia because jrpgs haven't changed a whole lot since then (except for excessive cutscenes). So any person a fan of jrpgs can still easily pick up and play an old final fantasy and genuinely still like it. Personally in this case, I prefer the old final fantasy games. Not because of nostalgia, but because they left more to your imagination and they seemed less linear.

So what's the verdict? Am I nuts? A dumbass? Or does my definition make some sense?
Because it really does seem like an exaggerated generalization when people say it about people, IMO.

I think it depends on the case. In your case, it's not nostalgia. Then again, I'm probably just talking out of my ass.
