DS informarion from EDGE

what happened with that demasked business?

I still say that everything about the DS screams "I'm an experiment!!". Granted I think it does look neat but it seems to be a testing ground. The next gameboy won't have a second screen but it may have a built in mic and the screen it will have could get touch screen support , network play and other such features. If they get used heavily on the DS. The next nintendo home console will also likely keep alot of this stuff, I can seem them making a controller with a screen built right into it like a DC VMU but bigger and in color so you wouldn't have to plug a gameboy into it , basically a controller that acts like a DS and is wireless. It all depends how well the DS goes over.

That is what I always saw it as. A polace to test out touch screen, all wireless, double screens (which I doubt comes back) gyration (moved to peripherals since DS axed it), voice input/chat and WiFi capabilities all without directly comprimising the GB brand.

It also happens to be conviniently timed to saturate the market with hardware before the PSP launches ;),

doesn't hurt them that I will have to pick one up for Wario Ware Advance wars Animal crossing :( :(

I think the DS is 80% genuine experimentation and new ideas. and a full 20% shrewed business stop gap/hardware milk whoring.

edit: scratch that 70/30 :p

EDIT2: You and I agree mostly except for next gen controllers featuring screens. I think revolution will interface directly and wirelessly out of the box with DS and/or GBA2 for connectivity, or perhaps there will be a "conectivity controller" that costs a bit more and features a screen, but I just don't see them making it standard. too expensive. More plausible control features would be headset pass through (for chat/voice rec) and tilt control built in imo. Nintendo wants to sell the handheld for conectivity.

So? Even Nintendo will admit to that.

The next Game Boy isn't a DS. Nintendo DS is a seperate product line.

The DS is a seperate product line moreso in name than anything else.

It's a coy marketing strategy ... if DS fails, then Nintendo still has one more shot at the PSP with Game Boy Next.

If they had called it Game Boy DS or Game Boy Touch, and watched it falter, it would be a bigger blow to Nintendo. With the DS, they can sweep it under the carpet if it fails.

The GBA SP is also selling so well, that releasing another product in the Game Boy line probably wouldn't be the best idea. This way they can continue to sell the GBA SP for a little while longer.

Dose anyone have a big version?

Would be the best MMO ever... :(
