(DS) Nintendo needs to pump out the genres

Nintendo really needs some quick ports of a lot of different genres on the DS. It seems Sony has a lot of franchises coming to the table on or around launch and I think NIntendo needs to counter that.

example
F-Zero X port with new levels and presentation
Mario Tennis 64 port with new courts, modes, characters
Starfox 64 port with new touch screen controls and new levels
Paper Mario DS
Smash Bros DS
Genre Variety!

I just don't understand why it's so hard for Nintendo to get DS titles announced and out the door, but it seems so easy for Sony to do so.

WRONG IDEA! NO MORE PORTS!

It's Nintendo, there are BOUND to port games on every of their systems anyway so DON'T ENCOURAGE THEM! ;_;

We need a lot of different genres, but third parties can come up with new games...

I dunno, I don't think a new game in those series would work well for the DS as they don't particularly draw on its strengths.

A Marble Madness type game would work better IMO...

part of me wants to see the DS get an Elder Scrolls game :b

Hell...if they can get something like Abuse on the DS that could work well, also

No, they don't need to pump out the genres, they just need to pump out some fucking games. I will be shocked if, by a month after PSP launches, I still have more DS games than PSP.

I don't think Sony has yet to get a DS title anounced and out the door.

The system has been out for a month. Other than Smash Bros., I doubt the other titles are that high on the milking and porting list. There is still plenty of time for porting and milking.

i reallly don't want ports of six-year old games with six-year old gameplay. Mario 64 was an execption, because the gameplay is still solid and the enhancements for the most part add to that, but the control killed it for me. KILLED IT.

DS needs games that make good use of the touchscreen and dual screen nature of the device. Not more ports with tacked on support.

Ports were just examples. It just seems the DS is getting so little announced support and that the support it is getting is lackluster at best.

Camelot takes way too fucking long with their simplistic titles.
HAL does too, for that matter.

I really want to see titles announced by Camelot, Hudson, Hal, etc... for the Nintendo DS.

I'd still like to see a DS Elder Scrolls game :b

I hope they aren't waiting for E3! Geez, that's a long time for DS owners to go before they get an indication of what they can expect on the system. My guess is that they are saving some suprises for closer to the PSP launch. Maybe steal a little of Sony's thunder.

Elder Scrolls on a portable? Have you learned nothing from Elder Scrolls: Shadowkey?

Shadowkey...for the N-Gage...what the hell is that?

either way...using an N-Gage title as an example of why ES shouldn't be done on the DS is a rather weak argument :b

I hope you dont ever get involved in software :p

They are doing very well so far. I like the way EA do things.

fps, racing, platformer, quirky puzzle, RPG, action, strategy etc. Its very well covered.

My DS is currently on deathrow until the psp launch. If they dont announce titles I actually want to play, it will be used as a trade-in for a psp, its as simple as that. I bought the GBA on launch and i had to suffer thru *MONTHS* of playing nothing else than mario and fzero. I wont tolerate this again. Advance Wars DS is the only title i'm vaguely interested with, and I dont even want to pay full price for it, and i'm a huge aw freak.

DS TOTAL: 76-------------------------PSP TOTAL: 76

source: ign.com and gamespot.com gamelists. I left out things like PICTOCHAT for DS and TALKMAN for PSP. Things like Jump SuperStars DS and Dark Cloud PSP aren't listed because they aren't found on ign.com or gamespot.com under the gamelists.

Totals are the same and genres are interesting to compare. There is a lot more sports on the PSP. Sports have traditionally not sold well on Nintendo handhelds. There are a lot of RPGs on the DS. It's just interesting that people have a perception that there are more games announced for the PSP, when in actuality, the two machines have very close to the same number of announced titles.

I seriousely wonder how many of those "announced titles" will actually come out...

I mean look at those DS games. It seems like every company grabbed one of their main series and slapped DS to the end.

I just don't have faith those will come out until someone shows something.

maybe they're just having trouble figuring out what to do with the 2nd screen

I think the only ports the DS is going to see will be GBA ports. Only they wont be ports it'll be an upgraded version of the next game in the GBA franchise.

I think eventually we'll see Star Fox DS and F-Zero DS.

I don't think port is the operative word ... "remix" might be a better term. Ridge Racers on the PSP is a "remix" of older Ridge Racer games with some new features.

You realistically can't expect developers to spend as much time/resources of handheld games. Its not gonna happen folkes, especailly with Xenon/PS3/Revolution development sucking up all their resources.

Hudson's already announced a few...

-Bomberman DS
-Momotaru World
-Tengai Makyou series
-tba Action RPG

... I expect Mario Party DS to be coming shortly. :)

I bet everyone who got a DS in America and is bored of Super Mario 64 is probably wishing that Nintendo released some quick DX versions of N64 ports right about now. Lack of games is the reason I don't own a DS right now.

Amen to that. Screw the people screaming for all original content, Star Fox 64 or F-Zero X
on my DS with maybe a few extra levels would be awfully nice right about now.

Similarily I doubt too many PSP gamers would complain if they could play Virtua Fighter 4 or ICO on their PSP right now.
