well not quite, but sort of...

In a recent interview with Sega's Yuji Naka, it appeared that Sonic Rush will make use of the Nintendo WiFi Connection service.

In an interview by GameSpy, Yuji Naka revealed that the upcoming Nintendo DS game Sonic Rush will include a multiplayer option providing the ability to have other players download a competition game via WiFi. In the interview Naka also stated that the game will feature pairs of characters teaing up: Sonic has Tails, Blaze and Cream and finally Knuckles and Amy.

Ugh, no. The site I write for reported that wrong too.

The interview does not say it will use the WiFi Connection. It simply states you can wirelessly send players "competitions" or whatever. That's nothing new to DS.

It also does NOT say that Knuckles and Amy will be teaming up. It says that they are both in the game at one point.

GameSpy: What other characters make appearances in Sonic Rush? What role do they play in the game?

Naka There are a few support characters. Sonic has Tails, and Blaze has Cream. You'll see them in some boss fights. Knuckles and Amy will make brief appearances as well.

GameSpy: Will Sonic Rush use any of the DS's wireless capabilities for racing opponents, Internet ranking, etc.?

Naka It will use it a little. We will provide the ability to have other players download a competition game via WiFi.

Wireless capabilities do not always mean online. But Internet ranking is one of the many possibilities for wireless, since online is PART of that.

A lot of developers have said WiFi in the past, but didn't actually mean online play.

As for the other characters, it just says you'll see them in a couple boss fights, but does not say Knuckles and Amy are playable at all.

This is the first time anyone other than Sonic, Blaze, and Eggman have been mentioned as being in the game. I guess they couldn't resist the temptation.
