Just what Dr.GAF ordered...

4 August
DS Power Pocket Koushien
PSP Rockman Dash
PSP Spiderman 2
PSP Taiko no Tatsujin Portable
PSP Yarudora: Double Cast
PSP Mercury

8 August
DS Jump Super Stars

11 August
DS Yakitate Japan
PSP Gagharv Trilogy: Song of Sea
PSP Gundam: Giren's Ambition
PSP Hudson Pinball
PSP Yarudora: Kisetsu wo Dakishimete

18 August
DS Slime Mori Mori Dragon Quest 2 (this date is still unconfirmed)
PSP Yarudora: Sampaguita
PSP Ys: Ark of Napishtim

25 August
DS Castlevania: Dawn of Souls
DS Lunar Genesis
DS Puzzle Bobble
DS Survival Kids - Lost in Blue
PSP Breath of Fire 3
PSP Twelve: Sengoku Fushinden
PSP Yarudora: Yukiwari no Hana

Anyone fancy some software/hardware sales predictions, resulting from this release rush? I wonder if this kind of speed will be maintained now that both machines have been out a while. Third party developers have got their first titles out, quite a few are near to completing their second titles too, I imagine.

By the end of August: DS is still high on charts with about 8-11 tittles of the top 20 while the PSP has 3 in the top 20.

DS has the stronger lineup by far, with 75% of those PSP releases being crusty PS/PC hand me downs. :/

The only games with a chance at beating 100k imo...

Nintendo DS
-Power Pocket Koushien (Konami)
-Jump Super Stars (Nintendo)
-Yakitate Japan (Bandai)
-Slime Mori Mori Dragon Quest 2 (Square Enix)

PSP
-Taiko no Tatsujin Portable (Namco)
-Gundam: Giren's Ambition (Bandai)

Concerning the fact that you left out Castlevania - DoS:
I know that Castlevania isn't a hot series in Japan...and maybe I'm just imagining things now, but I thought the series has been gaining in popularity over the past years? How much did the GBA Castlevanias sell in Japan? And Lament of Innocence for that matter?

A few PSP games that I'd like in addition to Castlevania DS and Lost in Blue. Might be time to buy a DS around then, provided there are other games coming up this year that I'd like.

I wish the US DS lineup looked more like the Japanese Line up

C'mon NOA get off your asses and bring me more games! I want them now. :-P

1st week JP sales...

Circle of the Moon~ 22.224
Harmony of Dissonance~ 12.841
Aria of Sorrow~ 19.450
Lament of Innocence~ 61.389

...none broke 100k. In fact, I don't think a CV has broken 100k in Japan since the 16bit era.

Wow, didn't expect it to be THAT low. No love for Castlevania. :(

Capcom, if you're gonna port Rockman Dash to PSP, please port RE2 immediately. Or RE3. RE1 or REmake if you like.

Thank you.

Or Strider II or Onimusha or Street Fighter Zero 2...BTW, How is that they didn't give a release date for SFZ3 ??? Pretty weird...

RE isn't suited to handhelds (which is why RE GBC was killed even though complete). The best chance is getting Outbreak imo (since it focuses on a network component).

And end to PSP drought at last.

Namco Museum Battle comes out just in time for my vacation! It better not get pushed back any....
Namco Museum's date looks solid. I think Ys, Burnout and the SOE games will slip into the fall though.

Everything on DS should make it by then, except UCG which I don't think will be ready until later (it's having online play added).

ThatÂ’s it for a while after that too.!!!

I jest!
Summer holidays is the time for big handheld games and sales IÂ’d of thought as everyone looks for one to take on the plane or holiday road trip.

Can Nintendo keep the pace?

Agreed completely. If Rockman Dash sells well on the PSP, Capcom should port (I've resigned to the fact that Capcom will do nothing original on the PSP now) Tron Bonne to the PSP with enhancements. The nature of the game is PERFECT for portable gaming and Tron Bonne fucking rocks. :D

Yes please!

I sort of wish more of these PSone ports weren't stand alone releases though. More stuff like PoPoLo Crois, less like Ape Escape.

Tron Bonne is incredibly good. I'd MUCH rather play it in portable form than the Megaman Legends games.

While PSone ports are going around, give me a Bust a Move collection please. If SE/Metro won't make a new game that's the next best thing. I even bought Britneys Dance Beat because it was made by Metro and played like BaM. :p

I thought we were talking about the US lineup, though. Do you think the US lineup has been good? Or were you actually referring to the JP lineup?

basicly IGA is doing us a favor to still develope Castlevania games even though it's selling piss poor in its homeland. Now I understand his cost issues with the series.

I wish CV would gain more popularity.

Woah, they moved into publishing! Hopefully it works out more like Chunsoft and less like Quintet. ;)

Yeah but what are the US sales of the Castlevania games.
Big sales... offhand I think it's around 500k for CotM and 200-300k for the others. Castlevania still sells well in the west, which is the only reason it's still around.

I thought the Castlevania series was doing well outside Japan though? Hell, didn't they release Lament of Innocence in the US first, then Japan?

Don't forget about July's NDS lineup!

yeah, it's doing ok in the west. Though Konami made very limited copies of CotM and HoD for some reason. Don't know if the same applies for AoS.

What's so great about the July lineup? Looking at the games you posted, I don't see anything worthwhile. June has Advance Wars and Goemon at least. What's the second-left game in June BTW?

And yeah, this thread was about August. Sorry to derail it any further. :P

Seriously, the July lineup has nothing of interest...

June isn't so hot either.

August really looks great, though. I really can't wait for CV. Hopefully the soundtrack ends up rocking. The last two GBA games were pretty poor in that regard (CotM actually featured a great soundtrack, despite the rather low sound quality).

SantaCruZer said:
um are you going to import cv? Cuz the US version is due for october.

I might be over in Japan at that time... at least before the US release date.

I wish there were something new coming out sooner, though. I will be there in less than two weeks. I'm not returning to live until later on, though.

The thread is discussing August.

I know.. but the original poster was talking how the new releases will affest hardware sales.. I think July and June are as important as Aug as long as we are talking about sales..

I was talking about sales.. Naruto, Full Metal, Megaman EXE, and Yugi are all high selling games and will affect HW sales for sure..

the game u asked about is Atari Retro Classics :)

I imported HoD, but I remember that I was rather annoyed by the japanese item menu. I think I'll wait for the US release.

I'm not worried about the text. I had little trouble with Hakuya no Concerto back when it was released and I've improved a lot since then (I'd be screwed otherwise).

That's the primary reason why I'd buy a DS, so I'm pretty excited to play it.

There's generally a quick translation over at GameFaqs boards for the stuff if you ever import games. It makes getting through it alot easier. That or just hope alot of people here import, like what happened when quite a few people were playing through the import of Majora's Mask at the sametime.

Well, I guess Famicom Wars and Goemon will be great games...but I'm not really into either series. July has nothing, though.
Caduceus has been getting a lot of positive response as well, some even calling it a killer app at E3. I'd say all 3 have the potential to be AAA releases, which is something neither DS or PSP can claim in any of their post launch months. Well, DS in August might do it again with Slime Morimori 2, Castlevania and Lost in Blue.

July should do well sales wise at least. While I'm not too intersested in YGO or a Rockman.EXE5 port, plenty of other people are.... they should be quality games anyway. FMA looks like it might be a decent Castlevania clone too, in fact Square Enix USA was supossedly showing it behind closed doors at E3 "under consideration".

It will be very tempting to import it, that's for sure :/

yeah here is the thing though. A new castlevania game is a great experience, I always try to stay away from spoilers as much as I can. It's going to be 50/50 for me if I import or not. I want to play the game in august, but I like to have control of everything when I play (english text)

I'll see :)
