DS4 thumb sticks might have a problem?

This one is really bad :(
Im sorry for you, hope it wont happen to me.
although i played the hell out of it and its still 100%.

It may just be mine. I figured it was a one-off until I saw another post in this thread about it. Thankfully the R1 and L1 aren't due to be used as much as last gen thanks to the new triggers. I hope anyway.

Hmmm, does it still do it if you press not just at the right corner and put your finger fully on it?

Defects are inherent to the production of these types of consumer goods. They are also covered by the warranty.

That's what I was saying earlier in the thread. The DS4 has almost perfect reviews on Amazon and other retail outlets online. It's the 30th most sold item in the US games category for all of 2013 and it hasn't even been available for purchase very long. That's quite a few that have been sold. How come we're not hearing bitching and moaning from more people? I guess we'll have to wait until next week to see if it is really an issue or just a small minority experiencing problems.

But your making it sounds like if this is a problem, your going to be able to tell in the first week. Id give it at least a month for everyones stick to erode down to the plastic or have their R1 start sticking. *Rule of thumb for any gamepad: don't play after having greasy, sticky pizza hands* ... ruined like five N64 controllers in college while eating pizza and other shit that gets on your hands

Got mine the other day. The plastic doesn't seem cheap, although I'm not entirely in love with the stick design. Who is it in Japan that doesn't know the difference between convex and concave, anyway? Last time they had the triggers backwards, now they have the sticks backwards.

Obviously it's hard to tell what this controllers been through, but it's pretty damn worn down, imagine where it'll be in a few weeks.

Well. This thread has changed my mind- thought there was no problem/couldn't be an issue, but there's just too much prerelease reports of issues.

I'm gonna hold out hope and assume that it was a bad batch, and pray that my ds4 isnt affected.

Corners were cut with materials at some point, I'm guessing. This is unusually substandard manufacturing for Sony, who I usually regard as delivering consistently high-quality product.

If not a remote lapse in construction QC, maybe this is the new, desperate, low-grade electronics Sony? I hope not.

Wow this is a real bummer! Guess I'll go with the XbOne controller for my PC... Heck I might just get a Razer Sabertooth and be done with it, but they're so damn expensive...

I made a quick video of my R1 button's behavior after 10 or so hours of use with Killzone 2. The sticks are still perfect but this does not bode well. Especially seeing how easy I take it on controllers.

FUCK FUCK FUCK

Don't do this to me Sony. I bought a PSP when it came out and about a month later my Square button did that exact same.
Called up customer service and they told me they'd have to charge to fix it and there had been no reports of similar problems.

..then I googled it found out it was a freaking widespread problem with launch PSP's.

Just don't do this, at least accept the problem as offer to fix them for free.

Just looking at my 360 controller which has a left stick completely worn down after a year, and it's been that way a while. The right stick is fine. Hadn't really noticed until this thread made me look to be honest. I doubt I'll be getting sleepless nights over this unless it affects performance.

I know people who had similar issues on 360 and ps3 controllers.

The sticks kind of slowly melt on them. Havant a clue how it happens. I personally never had a issue like that.

Yeah it does it when you use it in the proper position as well. The grip in the video is due to one handed recording.

Hopefully it's a freak thing. We will soon see I guess.

Controllers not covered under warranty? In your case, psp button not covered under warranty? That's insane.

They better fix these issues for free. I shouldn't have to pay another $60 down the line to get a controller that isn't defective.

I see. The R1 button on my PS2 controllers did this. : / Hope it doesn't happen this time.

bought a standalone one today. These things better not turn out to be garbage.

If they do, Sony is going to get shit and end up replacing them for free

I'm not sure what I'm looking at, the stick looks..fine? The gamestop in downtown Manhattan was the first non Sony store to have a playable kiosk in NYC so I can assume it has gone through it's share of play testers and when I went (which was a few weeks or so after it was available), the controller was fine. Didn't snap a pic of it but I would've noticed if something was up.

It kinda looks like the nice padding inside a pair of big, closed headphones. I kind of want to like...rub it on my butt or something. Am I the only one that thinks that? Maybe I shouldn't have said that.

I can't wait until the PS4 releases. I just want to see for myself. These threads panicking everyday are getting old. I'm assuming some of y'all run very high on anxiety pretty much all the time

Dude....that controller looks fine.

If you compare it to a brand new controller, you can tell the difference. The pic he posted looks worn for sure. Mine hasn't showed any signs of this after prolonged use, but it seems that enough people are talking about this that it might be a problem. Whether it's widespread or not remains to be seen.

Either way, I can't possibly imagine that Sony wouldn't fix or replace any controller that has these problems.

Less than 10 hours, I'd guess, I'm seeing the rubber flair up a bit:

Full disclosure I'm generally pretty rough on gamepads, but I feel I've been being pretty gentle given it's not just a new controller, it's a NEW controller. Ten hours man. Was a little surprised to say the least. No I don't use my nails.

Great there's a giant hair in the second pic. Now I feel disgusting. My apologies.

I'm interested to see what the batch bundled with the system is like. I suspect Sony could give like store credit and make people buy bumper equivalents like apple did with iPhone 4 and then fix it in the next run if there is an issue. Weird.

Rubber looks so gross. :/
