DS4 thumb sticks might have a problem?

For the people who have a defective controller,

What retailer did you purchase it from?
I bought the DS4 that had a sticky R1 from Gamestop. They replaced it with no fuss. I haven't used the new one enough to see if it has any issues.

What the fuck are you people doing with your damn controllers? I've been using my DS4 for like two weeks on my PC and it's fine.

Goddamn animals. SEE!

No sticky buttons either. Seriously. The fuck is wrong with ya'll? And get your crumbs, drinks and shit away from them too. Man. Children I tell ya.

Blame the user not the manufacturer for a problem that probably only affects a % of controllers?

Same here, i asked if any others were brought back with sticky R1's they said no but haven't sold that many yet.

I've put over 15 hours into Dark Souls on the PC using the DS4. No issues at all with my DS4. I've also used it to play several hours of Diablo 3 on the PS3. Again, no issues.

Just because you have a good one doesn't mean others aren't defective.

I mean, this is better than console defects, at least.

*knock on wood*

Will wait and see, I believe it's possible the material on the analog stick is kinda soft and degradable. Hope Sony quickly correct this.

I made a quick video of my R1 button's behavior after 10 or so hours of use with Killzone 2. The sticks are still perfect but this does not bode well. Especially seeing how easy I take it on controllers.

That blows. I had a similar issue with my original PS3 controller. EVERYONE told me I was full of shit when I told them my X button was sticking. It's easily one of the worst things to happen to a controller. That timing makes you aware of the tactile sensation in your hand that is NOT meant to occur and pulls you away from the action.
Ugh.
I hope it's a small problem. I also hope Sony helps you out on a replacement though they have sucked terrible for direct customer support for as long as I can recall (relating mildly to a conversation I had with a TV repair company this morning who said the exact same thing to me.)
Good luck to us all because I'm going to be using it for a week solid... I'd like to see this thread after that. -Adam

See omg that rubber it looks so smooth
Might want to get one of those rubbers for your DS4, buddy.

Yeah, I expect them to fix this pretty quickly. Maybe I should just take that replacement DS4 back to Gamestop just in case...

Just because you have a good one doesn't mean others aren't defective.

And just because demo units in stores are all fucked up, doesn't mean that everyone getting one this Friday is going to end up with a jacked up controller by Sunday night.

I don't know what is going on. Sand paper fingers. Applying unnecessary force or just being plain gross and irresponsible.

The problem definitely exists, and if it isn't wildly widespread, it must come from a batch, no? No way this would have passed testing.

I am staring at my controller and wondering if I should return it and wait. I'll already have one with the PS4, but need it for other users in my home

Yeah just like the people in this thread including me, were lying about our controllers wearing down, faster than wed like.

Have you read the thread? It's not just demo units. Hopefully the problems aren't widespread, but the fact that multiple people here are reporting similar issues isn't comforting.

It's not all demo unit impressions.

It does no good to bury this- if it's a problem, Sony needs to know so us w pack in controllers can get replace, emits if they fail.

I know there are people who have posted their own impressions, with images, making claims of shoddy hardware. I know they aren't all from stores. Some are.

I'm just a bit skeptical and questioning just how well (or poorly) do people take care of their stuff.

Sticky bumpers and peeling sticks? I"m screwed. Even with my 360 controllers I've had 3 with the right bumper becoming all but unusable, every single one of my 6 controllers have wobbly sticks and 3 of my controllers are missing the rubber.

I don't stand a chance do I?

Oh man, I guess that means no friends, Doritos, pizza or Five Guys while gaming. Shit. Best get my gloves out, just to be sure, lol

Jesus Christ man. I hate how if anyone reports a problem with their controller, people always start with the disrespectful accusations. Just cause yours is fine don't assume the only way others' aren't is because they're animals playing with cheeto hands.

I demand proof of this, lol

my controllers always looks like shit because i need to eat and play at the same time i don't know why maybe is beacuse of the doritos dust that shit is sticky

Dude was obviously doing some crazy shit with it. You can see scratches on the ripped stick, he was nasty as all hell, it was obviously a special situation with that guy.

I was about to post this same pic.

I mean really. What are doing to it to cause that much severe damage to it? Like scratches, bite marks and shit. What? That's not normal.

You wanna bite your shit up and use it as a dinner plate while sprinkling pubes on it, that's fine, but what pisses me off is he's all "guys guys look at the shitty faulty product these idiots made!".

I mean, when I first saw that, it shook me. For a split second it made me rethink getting one now and waiting to see what others say. The first thing I thought about was the 360 d-pad and how long it took MS to fix that and I thought "not you now Sony...". That's pretty damaging stuff if you ask me.

Everyone should get stick grips regardless. They're awesome and over time all sticks get worn and become smooth and a little slippery, which is what you don't want.
I've never had the tops of sticks wear down on me, though I've seen plenty of DS2s, DS3s, and 360 controllers that have had that issue. And after 16+ hours of use, my DS4 sticks were fine. It was the R1 button that crapped out.

Wait so the analog stick material really is shit?

Fuck!
For some people. It's still impossible to gauge how widespread the problem is. And if it's bad enough, I bet Sony will fix it within six months. It might be best to hold off on buying extra controllers for now.

I had the exact same problem after playing 16+ hours of The Last of Us. Fuck, I hope this isn't widespread. :-\

Shit. It's the same MO. Play for 10+ hours and out of nowhere it goes bad.

Mine did the exact same right out of the box, took it back to gamestop and they replaced it.
But that sucks hopefully they get these controllers figured out.

Shit x2. There's too many of us showing up with this issue already.

Thanks man. I'm actually torn between exchanging it and hoping for the best and opening it up to see it it's an easily correctable problem. It's physically making contact with the side of the controller more than it should. Perhaps a tiny sand or snip of the button/shell can clear it up.

I had to exchange my DS4 controller a few days ago for the exact same issue. I'd say I put in the same amount of time with BF4 on PS3.

Shit x3.

lmao can i ask people with sticky bumpers a question? are your hands clean?

Probably cleaner than yours. Am I saying that to be an asshole? No. I'm saying that because I'm kinda strange when it comes to game controllers. I wash my hands before I pick one up and I always clean them after use with a paper towel and electronic cleaner. Dirty controllers make me almost gag.

The "stick" of the button is plastic catching on plastic somehow. I just need to open the thing up. I'll get another one with the system Friday anyway so I won't be stopped from zone killing.

Extra? I've ordered the Killzone full bundle.

Gonna cancel it this week. Fuck piss farting around with dud controllers. I wasn't in that much of a hurry for a PS4 anyway. I can wait to see how this controllergate plays out.
