I liked the first movie, but in that year (1998) the movie took a ride on series popularity. Will the sequel do better than first movie today due series end? I hope so.

*Sorry for my bad english*

I quite liked the movie too. If its Christ Carter and that Wong fellow doing the story/pre-development; i'd be keen to watch it. Duchovny and that redhair MUST be glad to be working again

Fantastic news. This needs to be huge hit as I want mytho movies with us trying stop aliens and then perhaps full scale war with gibson and their child etc being the key. Cant wait.

He's already said this will be a stand-alone story, nothing to do with the aliens

Nice, the aliens/conspiracy thing was the worst thing of the series after the first couple of seasons.

Yeah, but I sorta doubt that they'll touch the later season stuff since many tuned out (plus it wasn't that hot). Am I the only X-Files fan who just thought things were dragged out too much near the end. Things should have ended at season 7, though I did like seeing Robert Patrick on regular television.

I just find "that redhair" funny. :lol

Every show's fans say that though. X-files I admit was perfect thru first movie. S6 started down turn but nontheless like simpsons, alias, stargate, anything, it loses its magic. I never seen fans say wow Season 8 is better then Season Two etc. Mytho movies I hope still happen, as I stated I am aware this will not be a mytho movie, does not mean they will not resolve the countdown to 2010 invasion. I felt opposite actually, mytho keep it from being just a cheesy B scifi show, added real drama and emotions even if alot of it was not resolved in a manner fans wanted. Lost could share same fate as well if not handled carefully.

I think Star Trek TNG proved, as did later X-Files to an extent, that no sci fi show should go past seven seasons.

I hope they make it like a stand alone movie not one continuing the main Mulder conspiracy arc , cause man that was a shit arc.

David Duchovny's been saying that for quite a while now. I remember he was on Conan and mentioned that they were working on an Xfiles movie sequel. This was last year when he was promoting that dreaded Connie and Carla movie.

I was a pretty big X-Files fan back in the day, but I would have been more excited if this news came out in like 2001 or something. I'll probably catch it on video or something.

From what I understand it will go back to more of a paranormal storyline, making it a stand alone movie, which is good because that will draw in people who've never even seen the x-files.

Great news.

I'm now working my way through the complete xfiles series on dvd. Currently on Season 2, just watched Colony and Endgame. Great stuff. I'll get all seasons eventually.

Btw, where does the first Xfiles movie fit in?

Apparently there is now news from Carter's Agent that debunks this(no pun intended) and states DD is way jumping the gun, no script is even in progress of being written :(

I wonder if the next movie is going to be like the previous one, and the entire series for that matter, and pretend to be about something big but turn out to be about nothing relevant.

Here we go:

Despite what David Duchovny said at the Critics' Choice Awards, TV Guide checked with The X-Files creator Chris Carter's agent who says there's no progress on a sequel:

Actually, it looks like David Duchovny was getting a little ahead of himself when he told USA Today last week that the film was slated to begin production later this year. "There's nothing at the moment going on," Chris Carter's agent, Elliott Webb, says. "There is no negotiation, there's no script written, there's nothing other than a desire for people to get together.

Relevant? Like 80 percent of all questions were answered thru out years.
