15:39 Duke Nukem Forever, sequel to 1996's awesome Duke Nukem 3D and Guinness World Record holder for longest videogame development time ever (this is not strictly true, but we're considering giving Norris Macwhirter a call), actually does exist and it's eyeing up an E3 appearance.
Next year, mind. Apparently, US journos have been privy to a sneak peek of 3D Realms' eagerly awaited FPS. Although they didn't get to actually play it they did see around 20 minutes of footage, and received a promise that more was to come in 2006.
Duke Nukem Forever has gone through game engines like we go through joypads during our lunchtime Pro Evo sessions, but we recently reported that 3D Realms had settled on Unreal Engine 3. Then the developer recently announced that Prey, another FPS missing in action since the 90s, would be making a comeback powered by the Doom 3 engine. Perhaps 3D Realms were just enjoying a nice long break...
So could the man who loves to kick ass and chew bubblegum really be about to make an overdue comeback? Seems so, but according to reports we'll have to wait until E3 2006 to get a good look at it.
We're genuinely trying to hold back the cynicism on this one, simply because we'd genuinely love to see Duke back in action. Here's hoping.
