Duke of Edinburgh has Died

What's with the outrageous response? People have the right to badmouth a public figure to their heart's content, under those same laws of free speech those sign-wavers on the streets of London are quick to quote. I'm of the mind to show even a small amount of respect and reverence for the deceased but people don't have to listen to my rules and they sure as shit don't have to listen to yours. He was an abrasive old fart who said some things that rubbed people the wrong way but did a lot of charity work in the UK and was beloved by many people. Give the man a proper burial and honours and move on.
ppl that shit on ppl, especially WW2 vets as soon as they die are grade A cunts bruv

The parade of clueless cunts in the responses to Obama’s tweet is quite something.

Perhaps if the woke little cunts actually read up on Philip’s life the way Obama clearly has, they’d come across less as bitter little trolls, upset with their mascot’s accurate description of him.

He isn't even cold in the ground yet. Show some respect to the man and the post of Duke of Edinburgh. It's a symbol I don't want to see ruined in the current climate of re-writing history.

Even if you dislike the monarchy, Philip deserves respect for living an extraordinary life which has enhanced the lives of countless others. He founded the Duke Of Edinburgh youth award, which has helped millions of young people develop their skillset, work ethic and confidence. Many similar programmes have subsequently been founded around the world, many affiliated with the DoE. He also founded the Prince Philip Designers Prize, awarded for design and technological elegance and innovation: winners include James Dyson and Terence Conran. For everyone suggesting he had an easy life, he was born on a kitchen table; he was abandoned by his mother, who had a psychological breakdown before becoming a nun, and his father, who left to live with a mistress; his favourite sister, Cecile, died in a plane crash; he fought for Britain in WW2 despite many of his close relations being Nazis. It's thought that the reason he was so dedicated to improving the lives of the young was because his own childhood was so tough, even though he refused to complain about it whenever asked. That he was an outsider when he joined the Royal family also made him sympathetic to Diana during her breakup from Charles, with the two communicating in letters and him offering her any help he could offer. On top of all that, his commitment and willingness to give himself over to his duty was exceptional, a famously headstrong man who, at a time when men were very much expected to be heads of their family, accepted a background role behind the Queen and was unwavering in his support of her without ever pushing for his own prominence. He was also instrumental in making the Monarchy more visible and accessible to the general public, and pushing modern causes like environmentalism long before it became accepted and later fashionable.

As I said, nobody has to support the monarchy or even his character, but if you can't respect his accomplishments and his service to his country, that says a lot more about you than him.

The dude fought in WWII. He was in Tokyo bay on a Royal Navy ship when Japan surrendered in 1945.

The woke little cunts need to be drafted and air-dropped on North Korea, China, or Iran (where ever the next war is).

Not as emotional as when Diana died, for whatever reason, but I wish him peace, and prayers for his family.

Nah, this one hits emotionally but for a different reason. He's another WWII vet gone. Maybe it's hitting me differently than when Diana died as my grandfather died a couple of months ago and Philip going is another reminder that there aren't many of them left.

My knowledge of this man is sadly limited to snippets of news headlines over the years and being subjected to the show, The Crown. Based on that, I would say the guy lived one hell of a life. Seemed a bit rough around the edges, but so are all interesting people.

But haven't you been an expat in China or Thailand or something for ages?

I've been away so long I've become Chinese and my passport has transformed into a Chinese ID card. Guess I'm no longer British, all hail winnie the pooh!

You know it surprises me that the same cunts who voted for "You Ain't Black" Joe Biden preaching about racism and calling Phillip racist.

Cunts have some really messed up morality syndrome going on.

I am particularly enjoying the meltdown a lot of them are having over both Biden and Obama's response to his death.

They literally can't stand it that both of them can see past a few silly and offensive things Philip might have said over the years, to the rather heroic and upstanding man he actually was.

RIP.

A very impressive life, to say the least.
Obviously very privileged but he used his position to enrich the lives of many.
A good man. A good role model.

Sadly, it feels like a very symbolic death as the last members of an absolutely heroic and proud generation are passing away. I hope not to be replaced by a generation raised on social media and hysteria. Many are already revealing their true colours, safe behind their keyboards and their avatars.

Remember to treat each other well and to have a kind heart, folks.

The guy enjoyed a good laugh.

I didn't like Philip or the royal family, I also don't really care that he's dead. Then again I am known to be an amoral individual with a distinct lack of respect for anyone so its to be expected I guess.

Not really. It is not like the modern age is free of political dynasty. The USA just had two generations of Bushes. Joe Biden's son is partaking in just as much international dealings as any royalty probably would have.

I feel like the pomp and circumstance gives people the ability to say "Oh isn't it great we are so past this" as if we are not still ruled by elites that are above the law. In one way it is there for progressives who want to pat themselves on the back while they let others rule their lives. They are almost a scapegoat at this point.

At any rate, Mark Zuckerberg and Jack Dorsey have the same kind of power to decide who gets to talk and who does not once wielded by kings in medieval times. We are not as modern as you think.
My point was the existence of a politically inert/ineffectual royal body is a little peculiar, nothing to do with the the existence of power in todays world. They exist I assume primarily because of tradition, and tradition itself is self perpetuating until everyone decides they want to be a republic. Not that I've got anything against the royal family at all. In fact it must be an absolute arse being a royal in an todays age where the eyes of the world are seemingly inescapable.

As much as I respect Phillip and his achievements, some of the British media really have gone balls deep with their programming over the last couple of days.

It almost feels like only a couple of weeks after salavating and erupting all sorts of content about Harry and Meghan's Oprah interview, it feels like this kind of coverage is them trying to make up for this in a way to get back in the good books of the pro-Royals in this country. It just reeks of sycophancy.

I dare say not even ol' Phil himself would like the level of programming that we're seeing right now.

RIP. The Duke of Edinburgh Award is like a right of passage to so many young people all over the U.K. One of the best experiences I had growing up.

i don't mean to be rude, disrespectful, or morbid but i wonder how the Queen will handle this. either she will live another 10 years or she'll soon die too. it must be incredibly heart breaking to lose someone you've spend 73 years with.

if people think the UK has gone overboard with the death of Prince Philip just wait until the Queen goes. you ain't seen nothing yet.

I've been thinking the same, usually though the widower just potters about for another 20 years.

If the Queen goes, it means a lot of ceremonies for replacement, mourning, a complete change in currency, the likes of which we've never seen! It'll be a hectic time for sure.

Props to the Duke of Edinburgh though, I don't know if any monarchies where the Queen has ruled for so long, with a dedicated Man by her side who never tried to usurp her or take power, for 73 years!!

Call him privileged or whatever you want, but he stuck by a woman for 73 years when all the odds say it would never happen. A true Man.

i've been reading up on stuff that will happen when she goes. shits gonna be crazy. not just the mourning but everything that comes with a new king.

i hope she is around for another 10 years but with Philips death it feels so surreal to think that things will change soon. well, i suppose things have already changed. the queen + prince philip have been around for generations and to witness his death it really feels like the end of something special and the beginning of a new chapter in british history.

I hope Charles, whenever he takes the throne, continues the traditions of his father and I don't care what people say about racism, he was making jokes that a lot of people were making at the time, and his reactions to people were so normal, that it made him normal, despite the burden he had on his shoulders.

Oh yeah, the stuff that changes is mental. The uniform for the Armed Forces has to change, all ensigns, all badges and logos, same goes for any and all jobs that use HMS in anything, from post offices to prisons. Maybe some will be kept HMS out of respect or changed to ERII.

Anyway, long live the Queen. Continue to keep calm and carry on.

That's neither rude, disrespectful or morbid - it's a valid question. Losing a partner has a profound effect on anyone let alone a 94 year old.

I wouldn't be surprised if Charles abdicated/refused. He's already in his 70s, he might let it skip to Bill.

I would be surprised. The fella has waited this long, it's only right he has a bash at being King.

Will and Kate will make a brilliant royal couple. He has the hoity-toity background with a splash of down-to earth and she has the background of someone down to Earth with a splash of the hoity-toity. I respect Kate because of how she has handled herself since becoming a royal. Contrast that to meg the yank shitehawk and it's night and day difference.
