This thread is hilarious with people freaking out about a 99 year old dead person. The dude is dead.

I'm Irish and detest the Royal family but always had a great laugh reading about his antics and the stupid things he said but this is a man that served in WW2, not some middle-aged console gamer. Dude was great fun.

The majority of the Royal Family are are either from or descendants of people from other countries anyway.

Are they right?

The royal family hasn't been terrible for the UK or England has it?

During the mid 1600s, England got rid of the monarchy and it's place we had a republic ruled by a military dictator. It was a disaster and the monarchy was brought back, which gave us the constitutional monarchy we have today.

I'm a Royalist because I believe our system works well and I like having a Royal family. It's part of my culture and national heritage. If that makes me a simp then so be it.

If you don't like the Royals then that's fine, but show a little class rather than childishly celebrating the man's death.
More harm than good, yes. I believe so. But I'm not going to derail the thread any longer.

Good riddance to the old cunt, fuck the royals.

Anyone who loves the Royal family is the definition of a simp ........ run along loyal subject! Pathetic!

I will have a few celebration beers tonight.
Why is celebrating someone's death allowed here but I get in trouble for telling people like this what I really think about them?

IMO, bullying needs to see a resurgence. Too many uppity shits about in the world.

He has been reply banned from the thread
Weak, perma ban his ip for shit like that. Don't want people like that here.

Posting on the internet is “freaking out?” Reaction to death is “hilarious?”

Do you always have awkward and Inaccurate reading of social situations?

Go back and read my posts from the start for context.

Then try replying to me again. ;)

I was referring to the people acting like assholes.

For some reason people want to weigh in an moralize and pronounce final judgement on the entire value of England based on this one man’s death. How about we quit judging people based on their ancestors?

This man fought in WWII. That was his life. He wasn’t there in 1600. Maybe he isn’t to blame for everything the country ever did over its entire history?

Great man. Played second fiddle to a woman for over 70 years. Left his career in the Navy for the country after King George died. Not many here would do that.

Also remained mostly scandal free despite some affairs which is pretty insane coming from a family that had Simpson, Diana and Meghan.

Added a minute of silence during morning rituals before anthems today.
The British royals are living mythology for many of us in the provinces. Bound historically and confirmed ceremonially into roles that raise demigods for national service. Thank you, Duke.

But in a speech to mark their golden wedding anniversary in 1997 the Queen made it clear how dearly important her husband was.

She described him as "someone who doesn't take easily to compliments, but he has, quite simply, been my strength and stay all these years, and I and his whole family, in this and many other countries, owe him a debt greater than he would ever claim or we shall ever know".

I don’t get it either. The royals basically function as parasites who refurbish castles on the UK’s dime and people fawn over them? They protected notorious child molester Jimmy Saville for years and are now protecting child molester Prince Andrew. What makes them great besides this carefully crafted perception that they are “above” everyone else? It’s disgusting.

Yeah, they don't do anything.

Apart from bring in billions through tourism, act as a restraint for the government, have a matriarch that's one of the most respected heads of state in the world.

But apart from that, what have the Romans royals ever done.

Edit: stately homes/listed buildings are legally required to be kept in a good state of repair, if the royals didn't do it the government would and the cost would be the same.

You've got to admit. the concept of a largely inert royal family existing in the modern age must be a little strange to those looking in. Even more so for countries like Australia, where Q is still the head of state.

And re: the royal residences and properties I'm sure they could be monetised rather than simply maintained (it wouldn't be too long before Buckingham Palace is turned into a Weatherspoon's mind you...)

Good take, in my opinion.

Yeah, after that brief stint with Oliver Cromwell, I think you all made the right choice bringing back the Royalty and transitioning to the Constitutional Monarchy system.

Certainly a lot less bloody than the path the French chose.

How easy it is for some to dehumanize others merely by labeling them with this or that label.

If someone is xenophobic, maybe that's because they look at xeno and don't like what they see?

Within 30 minutes of his death I was already getting memes sent to me on WhatsApp.

For the record Philip was awesome.

I always feel a tinge of sadness whenever a major public figure that has been around my entire life passes away.

That and I’m looking at Gen Z and I’m not real excited about some of the attitudes and values they’re bringing to the table going forward. So while there’s something to be said against the bigoted notions of older people, there’s also a certain strength of character being lost with the generation that lived through and fought in WW2.

RIP

Not a fan of the Royals but 99 is an impressive age to reach and I feel so bad for Liz on this one, imagine losing someone after 73 years together - must be heartbreaking.

Have you seen the amount of people that flock to Buck House just to get a selfie with the guards? The money is already there.

Fun fact: when I was a kid my nan took me to London for a few days and I had my picture taken with a horseback guard. Put my chocolate coated hand right on his super shiny boot. Good Times.

RIP.

He had a long life though and it was a peaceful death. The Royals have had a pretty shitty few months with the Megan/Harry nonsense & now this, on top of the global shittiness with Covid. Lets hope the rest of the year is better for them & everyone else.

Not really. It is not like the modern age is free of political dynasty. The USA just had two generations of Bushes. Joe Biden's son is partaking in just as much international dealings as any royalty probably would have.

I feel like the pomp and circumstance gives people the ability to say "Oh isn't it great we are so past this" as if we are not still ruled by elites that are above the law. In one way it is there for progressives who want to pat themselves on the back while they let others rule their lives. They are almost a scapegoat at this point.

At any rate, Mark Zuckerberg and Jack Dorsey have the same kind of power to decide who gets to talk and who does not once wielded by kings in medieval times. We are not as modern as you think.

What the fuck is this? Our Royal just died and you come in here with this bullshit?
What's with the outrageous response? People have the right to badmouth a public figure to their heart's content, under those same laws of free speech those sign-wavers on the streets of London are quick to quote. I'm of the mind to show even a small amount of respect and reverence for the deceased but people don't have to listen to my rules and they sure as shit don't have to listen to yours. He was an abrasive old fart who said some things that rubbed people the wrong way but did a lot of charity work in the UK and was beloved by many people. Give the man a proper burial and honours and move on.
