Dune Awakening off to a flier. (85,000+ CCU peak in early access).

Dune Awakening is off to a great start. It's in early access; the game just launched, and it has already 84K+ CCU players. I expect this number to hit somewhere between 200K-300K very soon, which will be excellent!

I've been following this game for a while now, and I'm excited to give it a try on June 10 - when the standard edition launches.

Really good stats so far as it's just the deluxe/ultimate buyers. It looked pretty good when I saw some gameplay during the early testing. Definitely gonna be a heavy hitter in the survival/crafting genre. I will say that the melee combat looked pretty shit from what I saw though. Everything else looked pretty cool if you like the Dune universe. I'm eager to see how the endgame holds up though.

Yeah, the combat looks so outdated.

But what I'm really excited about is:

1. The Dune universe itself lends itself perfectly to the survival genre. You literally survive there even if you're just existing and not doing anything lol.
2. The Landsraad endgame they have created sounds amazing! If they can pull it off properly, it will be huge for the genre.

Im joining next week with the regular edition. Great to see its a success. Its janky, but its Funcom. They will keep working on it, adding content and smoothing things out.

With a 40% positive reviews. Looks like a success!

Yeah game crashes once, negative review. Game has some perf issues on launch day when servers are packed, negative review. Also most people who enjoying the game are playing it and not making reviews 2 hours after the game launched. These early steam reviews are always cancer. Steam should lock reviews for the first 24 hours atleast

What kind of game is this again? I love Dune, so I'll probably check it out. Unless it's a multiplayer gaas game or something.

Steam game review is a cesspool. People will review negatively from their game crashing once to leaving negative reviews because
As someone who reads a lot of Steam reviews, I wouldn't be surprised if 15/25% of them are focused solely on technical issues.

I get it, sometimes a game launches in a rough state, and if the developer doesnt address the problems, that criticism is fair

But the "I've played 150+ hours and I'm leaving a negative review because I lost my save" type of post just feels like a cry for attention

Steam Reviews are good because they have wide variety of opinions from folks who actually own the game.

For every Steam Review that you may think is unfairly negative there will be one after 2 hours of play with 5 Stars and "So good" without any other comments.

That's the point, reviews even out and you can easily see various trends and read through reviews that are more in depth.

Overall I find the scores reasonably fair for most games with at least a few hundred reviews. Stuff can get review bombed but you can see that in trends and then read the reasoning.

I don't know I'm seeing pcmr constantly singing praises to steam reviews. Are they doing this only when it suits?

Eh?, i'm a bit of a Steam fanboy and PC only player, and i have always said on here that Steam reviews are only good for 2 things,. If a game has crap optimization or technical problems, and if devs have done some dodgy shit or are just arseholes.
For actual quality of a game, Steam reviews are useless because a large majority of user reviews are for things other than the quality of the game..

I preordered to play the beta and then returned it. It is good, but too much of an MMO compared to other survival games. Parties restricted to 4 only, and the private servers are not actually private because they still funnel players into the MMO part.

Game has a solid initial impression but I suspect it will get old and tedious quickly, like every other game from this dev.

I love Dune so I may give this a try.

I love Conan too, but I made it about three hours in that one.

Two of my favorite ip's, reduced to survival mmo shite, it breaks a man's heart.

This game is more than just a regular survival game tho and its a good DUNE game imo

I was honestly surprised that Funcom was still around after so many dog shit MMOs from the early 2000s, until I looked more into it and saw that it's just Tencent wearing Funcom as a skin suit now.

Does anyone in this thread remember the Dune game from the early 90s? That would be good to get a remaster of, but doubt it'll happen...

The adventure/strategy game? It was dope, great soundtrack, amazing pixel art, you could ride worms!
And it used this crazy portrait mix of character likenesses from the movie mixed with new custom art.
Great game, and a great example of the crazy genre mixes that you just don't see anymore.

almost 100k online, wonder how much it will be next week when the regular edition launches
Won't make much difference if none at all. People that buy games at launch don't mind paying a little extra for early access.

Is this a one time purchase? How is it monetized?
1 time purchase and you'll get all the future updates with story content, features etc for free. They will release some paid dlc content with some extra missions and cosmetics like housing stuff

Why do you have to generalize and then point fingers at an entire group of people while mischaracterizing what was originally said. The poster said EARLY steam reviews are trash. But you then say this post is all PC gamers and then claim they all do something else so you can basically call them assholes because what? Because you can't afford a PC or are so fanatically devoted to your box of choice?

Im buying it next week 🤷‍♂️ so these people exists
Yes but by next week there will already be some attrition from existing deluxe owners.

Viral games that increase their peak concurrent users after the first week are very rare.

This game is huge af. Most of them are still gonna play this next week, because it has tons of content

the beta was actually a ton of fun (once you get past early game combat).

been sitting on my mind for a couple of weeks now whether to jump day 1 or give it some time to iron out some stuff and settle in regards to how end game plays out completely.

that's like... most of the gaming industry, even epic is 49% tencent

is it actually good? I was really interested in it just due to it being an MMO but the trailers made me lose all interest.

Funcom being Funcom there will probably be an in-game microtransactions shop in a year or two where they will charge 10$ for everything & exclusive items.

Ez pass. I'm not financing these bullshit MTXs games anymore, no matter how good the game is.

Yes. Exploring is fun, survival mechanics are engaging but not tedious, crafting/building is great and the story is interesting if you care at all about the Dune universe. Combat is fine, nothing that's going to set the world on fire and tbh I still prefer it to tab-targeting combat mechanics.
