You're a disgrace to Seitch Tabr
yeah well if fremen weren't such fangirls to the last fucking new guy with vaguely blue eyes, maybe I wouldn't be that cranky
You're a disgrace to Seitch Tabr
It's a shitty book anyway
Nice. Been listening to my Dune audiobook again with my step-dad too lol. Hell, was watching the old Syfy miniseries too! Love that fucking book. Would kill for a new Dune tv series.
How freaking jarring is that the full cast is in some chapters and not in others
My favourite novel.
The miniseries was good, way more true to the book than the awful movie.
Man I wished he had that Drath Vader voice all the time.
It's definitely a bit jarring, but I got used to it. I really like when they use that Darth Vader voice for the Baron lol. He sounds so intimidating. It's one of my favorite audiobooks.
There were actually also a set of prequels that took place maybe 20 or so years before DuneThe Dune universe is amazing. I read the Prequel books a few years ago. They would make a terrific movie series or extended tv series. I think they were set about 1000 years before the Dune novels and showed the war with the Cymeks - Humans that had replaced their bodies with robot shells and dominated worlds.
The book is a masterpiece, one of the best sci-fi stories ever.
Hated the 1984 movie, even though David Lynch is one of my top 3 favorite directors.
Are any of the sequels worth reading?
Yes absolutely. Book #4, God Emperor of Dune, is probably my favorite. Book 1-4 are all excellent and they tell a contained chapter of the Dune universe that ends with book 4.Are any of the sequels written by Herbert worth reading?
Iron Maiden have a song about it (they wanted to call it "Dune" but Herbert hated rock and metal so he didn't let them lol)

At least that movie is really on-point aesthetically. I was amazed by how good it held up visually when I first saw it last year. Really great production values. The mini-series is far more true to the source material, which I definitely appreciated, but it looked so damn cheap . . .
Bashar Miles Teg escaping from the Honored Matres by going full mentos is my favorite moment in all the books. (heretics, then chapterhouse)
Inarguably good things in Lynch dune:
Casting: Baron Harkonnen, Gurney, Leto, Jessica, everyone except sting and even that had charm.
Sets. By god at the architecture.
Costumes: embarrassed the later tv version.
Music: prophecy theme and the rest of it hold up spectacularly.
Disagree with all of that, especially the piss awful 80s music.. Costumes were equally horrid with the miniseries, except the movie had an actual fucking budget so there's no excuse.
Leto II is probably the most underrated character in a novel ever.Yes absolutely. Book #4, God Emperor of Dune, is probably my favorite. Book 1-4 are all excellent and they tell a contained chapter of the Dune universe that ends with book 4.
One step closer

Such an awesome track.Iron Maiden have a song about it (they wanted to call it "Dune" but Herbert hated rock and metal so he didn't let them lol)
I can only see Hyperion working as a TV series. Theres too much to cover in one movie.

I own dune on DVD blu ray hddvd, movie, both series and got my og dune case signed by David Lynch. My wife went to his house one day to interview him and had the foresight to grab the DVD.
I agree with this man. The music was great in the movie. You can roll around in the dank effluvia of your endless wrongness.

I hate the movies interpretation of the weirdo get way.
A tough movie to make. Just to explain the universe without a ton of exposition is going to be hard. No computers, sword fighting controls the day (because of shields) and everyone needs dat spice to get around. Would need to stop the movies at God Emperor or write an entirely different future IMHO. Then again space whores taking over the universe with space sex might be perfect for a cable tv show...
I did not like how Duncan became so important with his special penis that could counter the power of the space whores in the future. And Miles Teg showing the entire universe how its done.

I am some people loved the last two books but it got too weird for me.
Yes! Dune Messiah and Children of Dune are good sequels, Children is definitely the better of the two, neither is as great as the original but they're still worth reading. Are any of the sequels written by Herbert worth reading?
Some of the costumes were good, but some were worse than the tv version.
Its like they ran out of ideas.
That was a great and intense moment. Book 5 and 6 is surely worth a read if one wants 'more' as long as one knows they're both practically standalone ("A Dune Story" spin-off if you will).Bashar Miles Teg escaping from the Honored Matres by going full mentos is my favorite moment in all the books. *puts a thumper down next to this post*
I just watched Jordorowsky's Dune this morning.
I've never watched or read anything else Dune-related, but I don't see how anything else can live up to that.
