*With a 100 million plus budget.
I mean.. isn't that obvious? Originality nowadays is only coming from the smaller/indies movies. To me movies generally have been pretty shit the last few years. I don't know if this is one of those situations where I imagine the past being better than it used to be. Television has surpassed movies in the last 5-7 years and hasn't looked back.

Completely agree. Tv has overtaken movies and now by a wide margin.

He has come in under budget on all of his films, and ahead of schedule numerous times. His budget isn't an issue.

Yup - he somehow gets 100+ M to build films not based on pre-existing brand recognition - AND is able to control (or at least have a heavy influence on) how the they are marketed - AND convince studios (well, WB) to pay for actual film*. It's kind of amazing in this day and age for cinema.

*unless it turns out that Nolan/Syncopy is footing the bill for the choice to use film instead of digital.

Liked the end shot and the plane noise slowly creeping up to the title.

Closest thing to modern Spielberg.

His pitches are the same as the end result apparently, so I guess reliability is a key component in Hollowood (from the linked WSJ article in my prev. post)
in contrast to the frantic last-minute reshoots of so many big-budget movies, Mr. Nolan’s work is reliable. He delivers films that are remarkably close to what he originally pitched to his backers. They come in ahead of schedule and under budget. Last April, a time when many summer releases were still far from complete, studio executives saw Mr. Nolan’s first cut of “Interstellar”—nearly identical to the one hitting theaters now.

I dont know, Noland should stick with sci fi stuff, much more interesting.

This war movie based on real events is just not fun. It will be years before we get something new from Noland now :(

I often see Nolan's later movies as exercises in trying to address his own weaknesses as a filmmaker. Hopefully this one gets the human element right. Looks lovely.

Also, I smile when I am angry/afraid. So I'm rooting for that extra.
