Dust: An Elysian Tail |OT| Become the Storm

So, hadn't been able to play for a day, finally came back to playing in the underground town area that was seen in the pre-release streams... Ahhh, so good:)

Finally got slide, which feels so good to finally have. Those hidden areas just taunted at me the entire time!

I also have to say I rather liked the design of the boss of the area
"The Lady"
. Found the VA's change in tone from before to after the fight to be pretty well done, too.

---

Oh, and count me as one of those who really liked Fidget; I see her as the perfect 4th wall-breakin' companion; not too annoying, not too serious. For a flying companion that had a voice that I COULD NOT STAND, you should look at the mascot-monster on the Animated show "Huntix". *shudder* Shrill and over-acted, as if the actor tried way too hard to over-portray the characters supposed personality.

It's wonderful in how this game feels so much like a lost gem of the Sega CD or Saturn Eras. From the graphics, to the atmosphere and characterization and themes. Heck, even the UI feels old-world smart, in the way it uses wonderfully readable text, keeps the shopkeeps on screen while shopping, for example.

Something about playing this, is making me the "Shining" series of games... Maybe it's a mix of Ahrah's design and portrait art, plus the animal-charged character designs...

Glad to hear it :) Always warms my heart when someone mentions games from that era, because you would have had to be a gamer during that generation to really 'get it'. There was a very different mood in gaming and on television that I honestly think most younger gamers are completely oblivious to. I feel that a certain amount of innocence has been lost.

Noogy, were your loading times in the final release (when running from marketplace) lower than when developing the game on xbox360 initially ?

BTW, big thanks for the codes :), the game is simply amazing

Finally fully maxed out. Thank you big buffalo dude in the Blackmoor Mountains right to the edge of the screen. Nice farming spot ;)

Speaking of the mountains. It seems I'm missing something there and I'm too dumb to figure it out myself. The notes are not really helping me either. I got the "Cliff" one.

Yes, I already got Braid using that red orb crystal thing which would be "The Cliff" note done. So what am I missing here?

I believe it's possible to hide codes (something about an E-mail tag?) by making it such that users have to quote the post to see them, which lurkers can't do.

Does anyone know the specifics on this?

Sans dot. I'm not sure what happens if lurkers view the page source or something though, maybe they can still see what's hidden.

So im about 30% through, havent got the slide yet but i think im about to. Is it possible to almost finish the game then go back and get all the secrets? or like can you finish the game and still keep playing and 100%ing everything?

You can go back from the final save point (even after beating the game) and collect everything.

Ah cool cheers man. the way the stages are done kinda reminds me of Donkey Kong Country. Really like this game so far. We have 4 days off for Eid break so ill be playing this plenty and hopefully finishing it.

Finished! Looks like I'm the 173rd person to hit 117%, which is surprisingly high for XBLA. Usually, everyone just plays 2 levels and then stop.

Really tempted to load up the final save and grind up to level 60, but I think I already found most (or all?) of the best loot... Got two Wedding Rings, Robe of the Mithrarin, Mithrarin Augment. What's the best pendant? Also, do Wedding Rings stack, so with 2 do I earn 2.0x XP?

You can go back from the final save point (even after beating the game) and collect everything.
Need to remember to bring a teleporter gem, though. Edit: Wait, there was a shop right there, wasn't there? Nevermind!

You are missing a note, or at least the results of one

Okay. Thanks.

Can you tell me name of the note? Maybe I have it and I'm just not seeing the connection.

Or just spoiler what I need to do if I can't figure it out on my own so that I can check it later.

Edit: Alright I got it. Went through the mountains again and found the last friend. I didn't have double jump in that area before so that was why I was missing it.

About 70% through and loving it. Probably my second favorite game of the year behind Journey. Love the art of course and the level structure is the perfect balance of Metroidvania and something else. Only complaint is occasionally I will be walking of the ledge of a platform onto a lower one that is probably less than a foot down and I will try to jump when I reach that platform, but the controller (or perhaps me) isn't responsive enough to let me jump so I fall down to the next platform. Small thing, but it tormented me a couple times.

Oh yeah! Hit level 60 with ease thanks to my 2x Wedding Ring, Robe of the Mithrarin, Mithrarin's Augment, Battle Master's Pendant (though Pendant of Wisdom feels more useful) and I think that's it for the game.

Sequel next week please!

Just finished it.

The way to the final battle was kinda the low point for the game because you couldn't see anything. These soldiers that were supposed to be helping you were actually just blocking my view.

Ending was great. The tears... I had tears in my eyes. Love ya videogames.

Btw Noogy who is Elizabeth?

Sure, I'll get on that :) I had considered tying the final percentage to your level, but didn't think many people would be crazy enough to actually hit 60! So you get my personal stamp of approval!

My patient and loving wife :) She actually held off on playing the game all these years because she wanted to experience it in its entirety, and she's as big a Castlevania fan as I am. Thankfully, she loved it, which is the greatest praise I could receive.

When I hit 117%, I levelled up to 60 just in case it made a difference =P

So...my GF has officially started her own playthrough on her GT which means I no longer get to play it...YAY! :/

Still, booted up my old 60gb 360 and I'm currently playing Sleeping Dogs, which is pretty cool, but it pales in comparison to this. I need my fix. :( (I'd also forgotten just how loud the phat 360 were, goddamn. :O)

One funny thing she pointed out and I totally can't unsee it now, the Fidget avatar looks like it's *ahem* every a few seconds. I didn't catch on at first, but then I saw it and now...now I see both Noogy and Fidget in a totally different light.

You're sick man, Noogy. ;)

Hmm I hit 117%, at least that is what my save says. On the leaderboard it still says 116% though. What gives?

Ah well I don't really care.

Ah, so, I'm not allowed to update Leaderboards every single second, so it does it in intervals of every few minutes. This isn't an issue in a game that has 'levels' with a score screen, but being an open world Dust:AET needed a queuing system.

If you were to load your 117% game, and let it sit for a few, it would update the Leaderboards. Hope that clears things up.

Just wanted to post in here to also say that it's a great game. And I liked Fidget.

So, just beat it on Tough and I'm sitting at 115%. I went back a few pages to see if there's any talk of something really special for the last 2% people are getting but didn't see anything. I have 100% on explored and 100% of treasures found. I'm really not certain what I'm missing. Got all the achievements as well. So, yeah, not sure on that one.

Also, had three separate "big" bugs. Had it hard lock in the subterranean area. I believe it was right after passing through a save zone so perhaps related to that. Another time mid-combat in the graveyard place (I believe) the screen went black for about fifteen seconds and then crashed to the dashboard. And lastly during the dialogue with The Lady the dialogue wouldn't trigger the next line so I had to skip the cutscene to get it to move on.

Regardless, had a really great time with the game. Difficulty on Tough felt good, enjoyed all the secrets and sanctuary folk. And of course it looked amazing and I dug the music, too. Good stuff all around.

Have you catalogued all the materials?

So no xp for side quests? Odd.

You get EXP for starting them, and then money/items for ending them.

I ended up getting all the achievements and 116 percent completion (not sure why I don't have the last percent as I did catalog every item, 100 percent map and treasure chest/items). Did it in one playthrough.

Anyways, I have nothing but praise for the most part, this felt like a beautiful modern day SNES type of game, plenty of length, things to do, and the story was actually pretty decent by videogame standards. If someone asked me what would I change or add to make it a perfect 10/10 game, it would be the following.

More moves, as well as different weapons to obtain as you go that play different.
Rebalance the magic system so that it works more as a supplement rather than all out destroy the whole screen (I abused the crap out of it, but I shouldn't be able to).
Redo the character art (sorry I'm just not a fan here).
Make the music a bit more prominent.
Co op mode.
More enemy variety per area.
More sidequest (with more variety in things to do)

Mind you, in my mind if that stuff was added it would be a game i'd pay 60 dollars for at retail, as it would pretty much be a perfect game, as the game was I felt I got a GREAT deal at 15 and have suggested it to a few people already. Fantastic game and i'd be there for a sequel day one.

I sank about 3 and a half hours into this game last night as a reward for making it through a long week at work, and it was a blast to play. I can't believe how amazing this game looks and plays. Some of the graphics remind me of Astal, along with the music. Also speaking of music, will there be a soundtrack release? I'll pay good money for that.

What's with the
hourglass
in the mountain level? I figured it was a
castlevania reference and I had to sit around for a while.

I love the music in the mountians, this game keeps on giving I can't see how anyone can bore of it.

11h 15 so far, 76% and only 83% of the world explored with 69% treasures.

Even though I've been following this game for years now I still wasn't prepared for how beautiful it is or how good it feels. So much love put into it.

Just reached The Sorrowing Meadow, my god this game is amazing. I just had to force myself to put it down so I can get some stuff done today. Hoping to get back to it later.

This game is almost NES hard on hardcore. The combat is great but those fucking weepy mushrooms god damn.

I'm not actually sure how I'm supposed to get out after I get the slide. I have a teleport stone, but if I didn't would I just be fucked?

After you get the slide, you just go back the way you came... You need the slide to leave, actually.

Man, good to see anything hardcore bro here. But yeah those crystal mushrooms are a total pain. I made an attempt to get out after getting the slide and I got up to the final jump before the save and died there, so I think it is very possible to walk out of that spiky basement, but it was tough and I burned a lot of lives on it. Eventually I just teleported out like you.

Thanks, that's it. Though no idea where to get the ones that I'm missing. Or I got them right at the end and didn't make it back to a merchant? Last I cataloged were the dog tags but I did have a blueprint that asked for something I didn't have at that time. Hmm.

Anyhow, good stuff. I might go back to be part of Club 117 but not at this exact moment.

In the end I didn't teleport out, I just kept trying until I made it to see if it is possible. I couldn't find any pattern to the mushrooms, it's just luck of the gloop.

And I have to go back down later for the friend..

I just read this. It's so true. It's bizarre how certain games capture the spirit of a particular era (like, I recently played the original Shadow Hearts and found it to have the soul of a PSX RPG).

Plus I'm a sucker for hanboks and kimbap, so it's hard not to love.

SH1 is absolutely a PS1 game.

Argh, wish I could play this game. It's so disheartening to want to play a game that straight up doesn't load. I'll have to try redownloading it or changing pics or something.

Can someone one tell me what to do with the red orb? Maybe I'm being thick, but is it related to The Cliff note? And where do I go to complete it?

Just beat the game, it was absolutely fantastic. Thank you for all the hard work, Noogy. You should be extremely proud of what you've made.

I was out of town this week, but promptly bought the game after getting home last night.

Played the first two hours or so, so far. A little bit past defeating
fuse
.
Absolutely loving it, "MetroidVanias" and Action RPGS are two of my favorite genres, so in terms of gameplay this game feels tailor made to my interests. Can't wait to play more!
