Dusty house, allergies: do air purifiers work?

My house gets incredibly dusty very quickly and I was wondering if an air purifier would help to cut down on the dust. Also, I have a dog as well and I have allergies, although not from the dog. Would the tiny dog hair mess up the air purifier? Do these things actually help allergies?

Read a bit on the few old threads I found on GAF but they don't say much about whether it effects dust or how it works with animals, so I decided to make a new one.

I use dual filter Hepa air filters.

The large dust and hair gets stuck on the charcoal filter, which is recommended to be changed every 3 months.

The microscopic sort of stuff goes to the Hepa filter, which is changed once a year or so.

You could also get a Hepa level furnace filter for a forced air system. Or get your ducts cleaned.

Vacuuming frequently helps too.

From my experience, air purifiers do not eliminate dust. They may mitigate it somewhat, but I think it's minimal at best. I have the Blueair 555 for my living room and a Coway 1012 for my bedroom. They help with my cat allergies and household odors. My cat's hairs do not get trapped in the filters. They also supposedly help with mold and bacteria.
