B belgurdo Banned May 30, 2005 #1 Tried to burn some CDs earlier today and my drive started making this absoultely horrible grinding/whining noise and the burn process cancelled. Is the drive dirty or does it need to be replaced? (suggest a cheap drive if it's the latter please)

It's a Lite-on LTR-48246S DVD recorder, and I've only had the computer for about a week or so. It's a refurbished machine (apparently barely so)

D Diablos Member May 30, 2005 #4 Uh. That's a CD writer, first of all... If it's a refurb chances are the drive just sucks. Get a new one.
