Duckroll what is that game? Is it coming to north america please let it come here!!! But is it any good?

Dynasty Warriors 5 will rock. Can't wait till March to get it! :D

Terrible caps. Same thing happened with DW4 when it first got announced but it looked pretty damn nice in motion.

the draw distance's greatly improved

Exactly. Where is the copious amount of fog which plagued previous versions? You can see backgrounds way off in the distance now. I'm a little shocked at the background detail. Looks like the PS2 has some untapped power left. What I'm exciting about is the prospect of two player mode not having a ton of pop up enemies jumping in and out of the screen. Supposedly this has been fixed as well.

Here are some some pics from Dynasty Warriors 4/Empires:

I was hoping KOEI would wait till next gen, but oh well. YAY

P.S. Cao Pi is finally lifted out of generic general status, bitches!

I just started playing DW4:Empires... and I have to admit... I'm having alot of fun with it. I hope DW5 gets an Empires add on... I like the planning/strategy sequences addition.

Koei should stop with the PS2, really.

No way this is one of the few games that me and missus play together... now if they view doesn't take too much of a hit in the two player mode..... Hell I'd buy another PS2 if they'd create a link mode option....

If they can't get it to be as good as DW3 then I at least hope it's DW4 level, not SW like at all.

Wasn't that guy in SW? I hope this one comes out in the West. I have a hankering for battlefield action games (my own little genre name for them) but recently I've been coming away dissapointed from most of them. Kingdoms Under Fire being the latest one, I'm not even that far but there was a goddamn stealth level and it's wiped out most of my enthusiasm for the game. Also the strategy section controls are a bit fiddly.

Not sure if you're referring to Yoshitsune when you said this, but the reason why I said Samurai Warriors and not Dynasty Warriors is because similar to Samurai Warriors, Yoshitsune is a DW-ish take on a ancient Japanese history instead of Chinese history. Which is also why they would both share similar characters.

That FROM software game looks great...I really do hope it comes out locally :D If not for that game, this thread would have been a total waste

Eh, that other game is from From Software? That means it'll be mediocre at best. I hope not, looks hot.

Lies! From naysayers make me sad because their games are actually pretty damn good and have tons of depth. They might not be the most polished but there are some pretty talented people working at From.

The only From Software game I thought was halfway decent is the original Armored Core. But I have not played Metal Wolf Chaos. At the same time, I'm not a huge fan of mech games. Their Dynasty Warriors rip off game is more to my style of games I like. Since From Software developed it the game has a good chance to come to NA. Have you played this Dynasty Warriors rip off game? I want to know if it is any good! And how this game sets itself apart from Dynasty Warriors.

Nope, this game slipped under my radar too. I don't even know anyone who picked it up. Sorry. :( Yeah I can see From games not appealing to some people, but that doesn't mean they're bad.... Have you tried Otogi or Otogi 2?

Well, I played Otogi and Otagi 2 demo and I think both those games are mediocre, maybe even average. I'm more of a fast paced action guy. That's why I love Ninja Gaiden and Dynasty Warriors series. The attacks in Otogi move....so....slow...I...feel...like...I'm...battling....underwater.....

Game gets bonus points for the cool destructable enviroments. I may pick up Otogi 2 when it hits 20 bucks to see if I can find a character who moves and attacks faster since I noticed you can choose multiple characters.

God bless you and keep you, Koei.

According to the GA front page, DW5 will expand on the stronghold concept from Empires, which totally fucking rocks. This series just keeps going from strength to strength, fuck the rehash whiners. Can't wait to see where they take it on the PSX3. Dare I dream of persistant corpses, insane draw distances, and even larger armies wedded to a full-fledged strategy game with hundreds of unique heroes? XD

Sweeet.

If there's anything that the rapid amount of sequels within one generation does for Koei, it's strengthen their game formula and really makes the experience better. Sadly, you don't see that from many developers =|.

This will be the largest Dynasty Warriors game ever. All of the characters will have their own story, and the events will be viewed from the Warrior's own perspective. In comparison to the previous sequel, Dynasty Warriors 4, there were just four main storylines for the Wu, Shu, Wei and Unaligned forces. The game's main mode, Musou mode, includes brand new stories for all of the characters including one of the newest Dynasty Warriors, Cao Pi.

The popular "battlefield stronghold system" that appeared in DW4: Empires has been upgraded and will be included in Dynasty Warriors 5. In this system, when a force secures a stronghold the number of enemy soldiers is reduced, and the securing force gains an advantage in battle.

Oh. My. God.

The game looks better much better, the background detail is increased, the fog is reduced, adding more attacks for characters, individual storylines, more strategical elements added. Wow. Koei is going out for this final PS2 installment. Quick and dirty upgrade this is not as the naysayers like to joke about.

Next update on the official site comes on Friday.

It does sound like there's more of a jump from DW4 than DW3 to DW4. I'm hoping we get more than one new warrior per side this time. Going from DW2 to DW3 you had a huge increase in the number of playable characters, plus the increase from 4 to 6 move combos. Only a handful of new characters (1 per side for Wu, Shu and Wei plus a couple for the 'others') and the same combo systems, contributed to DW4 feeling less fresh.

Maybe this is one of those series where the odd number title is the one where the biggest jumps were made.

DW2 >> DW3 pretty big jump

DW3 >>> DW4 not that big of a jump

DW4 >>>DW5 ????

Not sure yet. But it looks like some substantial additions are being made. I wish DW5 had in improved Empire Mode from DW4 Empires but this will probably be saved for an expansion. Maybe it does as new info seems to be leaking out on the official site every Friday.

I hope we get some confirmation of new generals soon, even if they don't reveal their designs. I want more than one per side this time. I want to reach that day where every general is a unique, playable character sooner rather than later (although it's oddly comforting to know that it'll have to happen eventually, there are only so many characters in the game).

Did 4 Empires sell enough to justify a 5 Empires? God I hope so.....

From Software rocks, cause of King's Field.

DW5 is sounding hot! I loved the "stronghold" mechanic in Empires. No longer could you just charge into the enemie's camp and defeat the enemy right off, you had to attack and hold strongholds all over the map, and encroach your way to the enemy. Made battles a lot more strategic and epic.

Yes that's what I've been waiting for. Bit more strategy, not too much mind, just a sprinkling to spice things up.

I just hope they ditch the levelling up system from SW. What's the point in levelling up, when everything else levels up with you cancelling out the levelling advantages and meaning you're just as well resetting your character constantly.

Some new custome designs for Cao Cao, Lu Bu, Taishi Ci, Zhang Liao, and Sun Quan. Plus a new Shu character, Xing Cai is revealed:

Fight with spear! New custome designs look great.
