Drew Barrymore and director Steven Spielberg are in talks to make a sequel to the 1982 Hollywood classic "ET: The Extraterrestrial" reports WENN.

Barrymore is apparently anxious to resume her role as Gertie Elliot, but only if Spielberg, who directed the first film, agrees to oversee the project. According to reports the sequel will see ET return to a now grown-up Gertie, desperate for help saving his family from extinction.

"Drew has spoken to Steven about it," a Hollywood insider said. "Although he thought she was joking at first, he's actually giving it serious thought. Drew thinks the world needs another feelgood movie like ET right now and she's prepared to work with Steven to make it happen."

Um.

Oh my.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I doubt this will happen though. Speilberg has never made a sequel (Indiana Jones being the exception) that i can think of and i doubt he would start with ET. There is no real reason, or room for a sequel considering now the original ended. I hope this is a joke, if not :

"Hey Drew. Fuck You Pendejo!!"

The latter was one of several Roger Rabbit shorts, and doesn't really qualify as a sequel.

The Land Before Time (1988)
We're Back! A Dinosaur's Story (1993)
Unrelated, aside from both concerning dinosaurs.

I think the point he was making was that you don't have to put a II or III to get the same story across using similar characters.

LBT is about as similar to We're Back! as E.T. is to Close Encounters.

Exactly however while executing similar ideas and concepts you don't taint the characters and story of the orignal by coming up with a less the stellar sequel(s).

man if Spielberg does indeed make a sequel to ET fuck him, ET is one movie that doesn't need sequels, seriously is he out of ideas? there are books to adapt, Spielberg leave ET alone thank you.

Are we on the same page here? We're Back uses none of the characters from LBT at all. Hell the ideas of dinosaurs arent even the same. In LBT, the T-Rex was a monster. In We're Back it's John Goodman.

Hey has anyone adapted "A Brave New World" I loved that book such a great story. I honestly think that Speilberg would make that a great translation onto film.

ET 2 with Dru would be on my radar screen.

Besides - she still has it when it comes to feel good movies. She was feel good, but still cool in Wedding Singer and in 50 First Dates. She could pull off ET2.

The question is though - who would play her brother? Whatever happened to the dude who played him in the first one?

There was a sequel to ET, at least in book form. It followed what happens once he goes back to his home planet. Got it as a kid and was bored stiff, so I never bothered to read past the first chapter. Can't seem to find the cover anywhere online...

We enjoyed the continuing adventures of ET in a series of British Telecom commercials years ago, they didn't really flesh out much of a story though - he pretty much just said "phone home" and made his finger glow in front of the BT logo, it must be hard to get decent roles when you're typecast like that.

Only if its done in the style of ID4 or WotW is this a good idea. Nevertheless, this movie will make an assload of money if launched at the right time because its a kids movie and there are actually very few kids films coming out.

The Smurfs movie, E.T. 2... what else is coming? :lol

And Hollywood wonders why its fucking tanking. How about some original content for a change?

Ha. I read the E.T. sequel when I was a kid.

Haha, I read that too. And I've been on the ride at Universal Studios which seemed to follow the story a bit. And from the sounds of it they seem to be adapting that for the possible sequel here. Please don't do it Spielberg, you got enough flack for replacing guns with walkie talkies.

You know what's crazy. I don't think I've seen the original ET... And I consider myself a movie buff. Not only that I've ridden ET at Universal Studios like 3 times now.

This reminds me last summer I went to Universal Studios in FL and among other things rode the Back to the Future ride... man I thought I was gonna barf.

We're heading out to Palm Springs, CA in 3 weeks for our vacation... our the rides that Universal Studios Hollywood the exact same stuff they have in FL? I see what looks like one new ride that wasn't in FL last year something related to Van Helsing....

they got rid of ET at Universal Studios Hollywood and replaced it with some Mummy Returns ride :(

and i think this story is bullshit. Spielberg has said before he will never make a sequel to E.T. I remember him saying something along the lines of "Watch E.T. again." in response to all the people wanting a sequel. And i doubt he would let some over the hill joke of an actress like Drew Barrymore dictate which movies he does. Spielberg seems to only work with A list stars now like Hanks, DiCaprio, Cruise, ect..., especially for his big budget, blockbuster movies. I wouldn't be suprised if Barrymore's agent is the one that leaked this story to help get her in the limelight and get her some better role offers.

...whats the point of casting drew berrymore she wasnt that big a part compared to the little boy...what was his name timmy shit its been a while.

Meh... I road that at FL... it was... too short.

I seriously hope Spielberg doesn't go through with this. E.T. is a classic that doesn't need a sequel - especially with Drew Barrymore as the lead.

If that happens, there will be hell to pay.

Seriously, Drew Barrymore blows.

ET doesn't need or desire a sequel.

Her plot idea is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard.

I sure hope this is just stupid bullshit being reported by retards.

Well look at it this way.

This would mean E.T. 2 The Game.

Which would mean marketcrash and everyone goes byebye.

Which would mean some new console maker will come out and save the industry. Or something.

I hate ET, I hate ET sooooo much

atleast sequels are a step above remakes

damned Spielberg

atleast they wouldn't do both a sequel and a remake

damned Raimi...

the ET ride was cool, he says your name at the end, unless it's... "ethnic"

Drew thinks the world needs another feelgood movie like ET right now and she's prepared to work with Steven to make it happen.

drew thinks the world needs a feelgood everything. STOP THIS HIPPIE WHORE

Some of you guys are freaking out over nothing. Spielberg has a pretty strict policy when it comes to developing sequels, and this sounds like something Drew's pushing -- not Spielberg.
