Have you played EA's cricket game? You wouldn't be asking for a southern hemisphere developer if you had :)

Also there's a funny bit in the EA Rugby PR about development staff staying up till 2am in the morning doing work.

Proper Rugby League game please ! No, not like the Australian developed one on the xbox, something with Northern Ford teams please!

You're joking.

I'm off to look for some boxart right now.

EDIT: No, you're not joking. They really are milking every single sport, every single year.

It might make you feel better to know that HB studios (if I'm remembering correctly) is run by a European dude. And it's not based in BC, with the rest of EA Canada. It's based in Nova Scotia (tiny little province on the East coast).

I believe the story goes that this European developer married a Canadian girl, and afterward she was homesick or something, so they moved back to Lunenburg, Nova Scotia together, where he founded HB.

At least, I'm pretty sure that's how it went.

I think a good Rugby game could be a blast.

And this one has to be an improvement over 'Rugby 2004", which is still probably the absolute worst sports game I've played.

I'd kill for a Rugby League game with Madden-like production budget. Americans have no idea what a football game is until they've witnessed a State of Origin match.

I thought that one had Super League teams though?

If anyone is after a good Rugby Union game, World Championship Rugby is pretty good, it was worked on by some of the old Jona Lomu guys.

"Rugby league is for pussies though."

.... what?

I played Union for north of england when i was a school boy, and played a bit of Rugby League.

Union - yeah, you get stamped on and you get your testicles grabbed by your own players (well, i did as (initially) a prop, and then as a hooker (fnar fnar) when i got older and stopped growing).

But with league, it's just getting hit constantly in singled out situations, the concept of working a maul/ruck goes out of the window and you just get clobbered time and time again. Also, League seems to have a horrible tendancy to allow players to get away with neck high tackles. I've been taken out like that more times than i care to remember.

Americans , please note, no body armour. 80 minute games, no time outs. Australian rugby league though looks even worse, as they have the added advantage of all their players being super fit athletes, where as all the english players are fat beer swilling cock masters.

Anyways, .... yes, the Australian game on the Xbox has superleague, and while i can deal with that, i'd rather be playing as my local side rather than as St Helens/Wigan/Whoever.

If we'd just beaten Leigh this year, we'd have been in the Superleague and i could have picked up the new version... but alas, we'll have to do it this season.

<rant>Um, why is there so much hate for Americans and vice versa... Seriously who give a flying f**k? Here's a concept...Watch what you like! Stop hating on things you have no idea about. That applies to everyone, not just the poster I quoted. It's getting quite old hearing the same thing day in and day out. NO ONE can help where they were born, etc. So stop acting like it.</rant>

Correction, the Rugby League game on PS2, Xbox and PC was developed in Wellington, New Zealand by Sidhe Interactive. Not Australia.

How the hell is rugby 1) emerging, and 2) a "global phenomenon"?

No no, you're just thinking of soccer or AFL.
The AFL because it's a less harmful alternative?

Soccer because... wait, why would pussies choose soccer? That's an entire SPORT. Wouldn't people choose a sport because they enjoy it? No, that's crazy! :lol Only basketball, football, and baseball - sports from the good ol' U S of A! - can be enjoyable!!

fucking hell, no one is hating on Americans at all. All i was pointing out that Rugby is a hard sport because you take hits with no body armour and there are no time outs and given that most Americans don't know much about Rubgy, it's a point worth adding.

Did i say "PAH ! you pussies do this..." or anything like that? It's you that's reading too much into what was written.

If i wanted to rag on Americans theres 1001 other things i could think of before ragging on your sports (which, incidentally, i get to watch and enjoy almost every single day on tv over here)

Okay I understand, but that wasn't totally aimed at you anyway.

Listen, pads or not, none of you could make it through a day in the NFL. Have you guys ever played Professional American football? The pads really DON'T ease the pain much when you're getting blindsided by some 250 pounder who would like nothing less than to break your neck, running fullspeed. It cracks me up to hear people calling NFL players pu**y. You would collapse after one good hit while wearing pads and a helmet. Believe me, it STILL HURTS.

I would like to see the injury ratio comparison between American and European football. I bet you would all be surprised. Wy can't you just agree that both games have their pluses and minuses? If you're a fan of Rugby, great! If You're a fan of American Football, wonderful... Neither game is for pu**ies. Believe me.

Sniff

Bing when will you get back into the Australian team? I would honestly love a good cricket game, the only one I have every enjoyed was International Superstar cricket on SNES.

Most of the time you ball out the opposition in ten overs!

Now as an EX rugby union player I must say I HOPE this game good but I honestly think it has a snowballs chance in Hell of being playable.

No, you're not joking. They really are milking every single sport, every single year.

Not every year. We usually get the cricket and rugby titles every two years - Cricket 2002 was followed by 2004, and then we had Rugby 2001, 2003 and now 2005.

pilonv1: ran a google search and found that Cricket 2000, 2002 and 2004 were done by HB Studios, so they weren't developed in the southern hemisphere. As far as I can remember, the last cricket title done down here was Cricket 97 Ashes Tour Edition by Melbourne House.

World Championship Rugby was much better than EA's last rugby game, but each has their merits.

I think Shane Warne cricket and Brian Lara Cricket were made in Australia for the PS1, I think Lara’s game came out in like 1999.

Wow just did a search and there is a new Brain Lara 2005

No matter what you say, compared to AFL and ARL, NFL is a cakewalk. We dont have protection and we still survive. Just to prove that its a pussy sport, here you are complaining about getting "king hit". Its a part of the game without protection over here :lol

From someone who's played both sports, that's an exaggeration. Both sports are brutal. Rugby moreso, sure, but not significantly.

Rugby union is a lot more physical then AFL, some bloke punched my mate in the throat out of the blue right next to me and fuck all happened to the guy who did it. Still you know you have played hard when you can’t walk the next day, and you know you were fuckin soft if you can.

My friend also played both and pretty said what you said except that the hits in football are much harder because of the speed involved. Still, I don't think it is fair to say either is played by "pussies".

Like most others, I assume, I thought of EA as primarily a northern hemisphere company--I had no idea that they were making games just for the southern hemisphere that we didn't see up here.

Of course, it's not surprising that Americans don't get EA Cricket on their shelves. A British friend of mine has a saying that he uses to describe difficult tasks: "It's harder than explaining cricket to an American."

"If you're a fan of Rugby, great! If You're a fan of American Football, wonderful... Neither game is for pu**ies. Believe me."

Agreed. You have to factor in the fact you are getting hit by MUCH bigger guys than you'd get hit by in Rugby.

However (and this isn't a slight on American Football) , the thing that is going with Rugby is that someone is getting hit almost constantly for 40 minutes (League) or maybe a bit less given all the pansy kicking in the other code (union) ;)

but the thought of having someone who is the size of "The Fridge" stand all over you in studded shoes is fucking horrible (and it's happened to me more than once) *UNION*

Alternate , in League, you get stiff armed in the face whilst running through a hole in defence by someone who is built like a fucking tank, whilst wearing no helmet. Believe me , you don't get up from that in the hurry.

I'm sure , after seeing hundreds of horror American football injuries, that it's also a very harsh a sport that has to be played by committed athletes, but Rugby is just fecking brutal. :(

I love that one mention of the word pussies send the forum into testosterone mode. awesome.

Some of the players do wear collar bone protecters because people were getting bones broke left right and center. I always remember Scott Gibbs learning how to spear opponents and then using that tactic repeatedly. Was funny seeing a player run into and full speed spear from a 250 pound man. Made for lots of injury time though :lol
