I liked it. Rash doesn't fight Sanz and push him into improv corners as tenaciously as schwaz but he does dig into the situations often enough. Shelly getting into his dad's pranks and age got me good.

I'm half-way through it and it's fine so far, thankfully.

I'm just generally wary of Sanz eps. Sometimes he's fine, but other times he's terrible. He's just kind of lazy at improv. Can't keep his shit straight.

Surprisingly, the Lapkus podcast with Horatio gets 100x times better after Horatio gets tired of actually following the premise of the show and just goes off into improv scenes. :p

I'll agree it got better, but relative to what? That show was just varying shades of shit, for me. It's a shame, I love her on CBB, but on her own show it just doesn't work. I'm wondering if it's because her show is one on one. On CBB, she's usually on as part of an ensemble, and it works so much better.

Also, Horatio was fucking... terrrrrrrrriibbbbllllleeee on that show. Especially at the beginning. When he did that Dr. Phil intro and the audience was dead silent I was worried. I should have deleted the ep then and there.

I don't think it's that bad. I've enjoyed the podcast (but there have been episodes I really didn't like). I agree that the show needs more. First of all, I'm a little surprised at the hosts Lauren gets. Most of them have never done anything Earwolf related. A couple of them I've ended up liking, but yes, there needs to be more people on it. I'm not really sure what the though process was on the one-on-one stuff, except for maybe just working around people's schedules. I hope she can get more people on it. It needs to be more Andy Daly Podcast Pilot. Although I think Daly's podcast had some quality problems as well, but then there would be episodes where it was one of the funniest podcast I've ever listened to (August Lindt and Dalton Wilcox, looking at you).

Traci remains her best character. It's kinda crazy when you get a somewhat mediocre character and then Traci comes on with Help Me Wanda and is fucking hilarious. I wish Todd would make an appearance, but maybe he only works with Scott.

see I liked that ep once Horatio gave the fuck up and was just himself. so...the last 10 minutes.

the one with Kate Berlant uh wasn't very good either I'll give in there. but the Glassman one and Sister Speak and Movers and Schaffers were all good to great. Paul F's was alright too. call it 3.5 for nine or so, not terrible for a new show. gotta hope it can find its ground. It is, admittedly adn conclusively, not an out-of-the-gate heavyweight like ADPPP

I actually want to give a little love for the Rad Dad one which I think was quite good, but I'm not sure what the general feeling of it was. I thought the host was going to annoy me at first, but I grew to like him. I loved when they took each other on journeys and the part where Lauren's character complained about being left in the dark.

I didn't care for the Magic one, but I liked the others you listed.

I want her show to be better than it is, because I think she's incredibly talented. I'm not sure how you do that, though. I think half the 'hosts' she has on are people she knows from improv groups.

When you pick one premise for an entire show, it's not easy for two people to be consistently entertaining. To me, that's where it falls down. When the premise is weak and the host is flat, it falls down hard.

I was so-so on Rad Dad. but the only dud episodes are, I think, Healthy You, Skip Hardaway, and Betsy. Maybe Phil/Ramos by virtue of being just a mess.

I think they can broaden the premise. I mean it doesn't have to be one-on-one (I'm not sure why it is in all but one of these). You could theoretically do multiple shows in one like the Ramos/Phil one did (kinda poorly) or have multiple guests like the Sisters one. So far they just...haven't. Which is odd. I'm holding out hope though.

I think the middling quality of the Lapkus podcast is a testament to how fucking great Scott Aukerman is at helping these people develop their characters.

Lapkus is obviously super creative and sharp as hell, but the Choctaw so tenaciously prods his guests into such hilarious and bizarre lines of discussion that it results in some really wonderful and unique characs.

Lapkus has already developed a great lineup of characs, but she's debuting too many new ones on this podcast, and debuting them opposite comics who can't help her build them like Aukerman can.

Yeah, I think Betsy's episode was indicative of this. So many times she seemed to just say something like "oh, okay. Anyway..."

It just doesn't give these characters a chance to shine.

I have been listening to Hollywood Handbook nonstop for the past two weeks. It is so amazing. I love Sean and Hayes' recurring jokes. Hearing Sean talk about Frankensteins, his sick basement apartment, and how much of a nerd he is never fails to make me laugh. That being said, I still don't fully understand the Popcorn Gallery, I would like an explanation.

The Popcorn Gallery
It's time for it
It's the Popcorn Gallery
It's a segment on Hollywood Handbook
Sean and Hayes
Let the viewers ask the questions
Not the Peanut Gallery
'Cause it's about Movies, yeah
The Movies is the reason
It's called the Popcorn Gallery
And Sean and Hayes letting
The viewers doing all the questions
yeah and now it's time for.... the Popcorn Gallery oh yeah!

Lapkus is also great on Improv for Humans.

I just started in the past two weeks myself and have been cramstuffing a bunch of episodes in and I'm loving the recurring jokes too - particularly the nerd stuff. Also, I loved the takedown of "Mort-de-cai" in the latest episode. "I really get a modern urban feel when I think of a character like this. I just hear in my mind buh doh doh buh doh doh don't believe me just watch!"

Oh, no question. The latest i4h is brilliant. It's always a must-listen when she's on it.

I'm not trying to imply that Lapkus is a poor improviser. Not at all. She's fucking awesome, actually. She just needs to get some stronger guests/hosts (Aukerman, St. Clair and/or Parham, Andy Daly, Besser, etc.) on her podcast and also use a few more of the characters she's already developed on CBB.

The bj Novak ep of HH is so, so good.

The Spiderman book segment slayed me.
I just listened to that one. It was so funny when Sean was like "He shoots a freakin' spider web out of his hand!" And BJ was questioning why the narrator would be so surprised about it.

This is just a question, guys... kinda off topic and I apologize. But do we have a thread for people here who make their own podcasts?

Nope, there's a thread for music creators but I doubt podcast talk would be overly welcome there. You could try making an pseudo-OT to see if there were enough people about to make a real one viable. If you don't fancy that there should be dedicated sites/forums on the net.

I am so behind on CBB, are the Colin Hanks/Lauren Laupkis etc, Skylar Austin/Rory Scovel etc and Holiday Spectacular episodes worth listening to or can I just skip straight to the Best Ofs?

The Holiday Spectacular is the most skippable of those, and my favorite of the group would be Skylar Astin/Rory Scovel because they have really good chemistry, Astin's so game and Scovel is one of the funnier people alive.

The Holiday Spectacular was one of the best EPs from last year, don't skip it!

Today's though...I couldn't take 5 minutes of Lapkus's character building, it was so boring.

At least Patton's segment was good. Plus we got Patton saying "negger please" and making Scott audibly uncomfortable.

Oof yeah today's was rough.

Disappointed in Patton's cinephilia: Beauty and the Beast was directed by Jean Cocteau not Renoir. Also Scott elaborating on his stories and Patton restating that he left a lot of gossipy Largo goings-on out reinforced my feeling that his book is undercooked.

I just started listening to The Andy Daly podcast, but it looks like the last episode came out a looong time ago. Did they quit doing the podcast?

I'm pretty sure it was an one off thing, but it also might be that Andy decided to center on Review. It's been a while since he has been on CBB.

The first season of Review was delayed in release, and it left Andy with a lot of freetime which he filled with the ADPPP.

Andy was recently on Who Charted (and I think Improv4Humans?) and he mentioned doing a second "season" of the ADPPP sometime in the future, probably.

Pamela Murphy also kills in this episode. Her being forced to name all the members of the band is incredible.

Hollywood Handbook has been great so far this week. Sean and Hayes' inability to comprehend feminism is incredible. The "Is This OK" segment got me a lot of weird looks on the subway from how much I was cracking up. Also, I saw Sean on Parks and Rec and marked out.

I'm sorry, the Holiday Spectacular is least skippable.

Thinking back on how much I enjoyed Aimee Mann and another appearance of Victor and Tiny, I'd put it well above Lapkus/Hanks. But I didn't like Adomian's Orson Welles' Ghost much, Ho-ho didn't stick with me, Len Wiseman was just pretty good (which is low for PFT). Where Astin/Scovel was vintage CBB: two hilarious celebrities, then one killer character like The Kid said in Jewel's, an improved list of band members, a second good character in the librarian, and a fantastic WYR? to top it off.

Oof the new HH was rough. The 'Is that wrong?' segment was the only thing that made me crack a smile. It just feels like the fellas weren't jiving and the guest wasn't helping one bit.

Probably my favorite podcast episode ever. Everyone is firing on all cylinders.

My god I'm listening to this at work now and randomly bursting out in laughter. The guy doing H.R. Geiger is so money, his description of Legoland in the Congo...I cant, I just can't...
