“Glad to see [SSX On Tour] come back and changed up a little,” said Will Tuttle from Gamespy, when asked what the hit of the event was. “The Monster tricks are totally different with skiing [versus boarding], and the audio cues are different too. It’s the real deal.”

That pretty much sums up the vibe of the event -- SSX is shaping up to blow it out this year. With the focus of the game being “choose your path to become a black diamond rockstar,” the hardcore ski and snowboard lifestyle are nailed perfectly as you get to define your experience.

When I get my hands on a more polished version of the game, I'll be able to create my little snow-bunny with gear that is almost the same as the stuff I actually use in real life (ok fine, probably a little better): K2 board, Burton boots,Burton Chopper jacket, Special Blend pants, Coal headband and Anon goggles. Hey, you gotta look good on the mountain, right? With this build I decided to get a little crazy boarding with the group shred event rather than racing one-on-one. The slopes were a little crowded, but made for more realistic runs… or in my case, falls.

The game is just cool. The new line-drawing design, music, 13 new skiing or boarding tracks, On Tour career mode, the rockstar theme… all of it is just flat-out cool. When the game team showed the demo with video clips that compared SSX 3 to this year’s game, everyone got a real sense of just how different On Tour is. It’s not quite as arcade-like as SSX 3 was -- it’s much more realistic, but still has the same sense of fun.

Throughout the evening I tried desperately to finagle one of the SSX On Tour hoodies that the game team was giving out as trivia prizes. Either I didn’t have my A-game with me or these hoodies are a hot commodity, because I got shut out completely. Silly me, I thought the Donovan McNabb autographed football that was being given away would be enough of a distraction for me to snag one of the “extras.”

Aiming/ball-striking in TW appears to have changed, based on the golf ball in the lower left. Hopefully this means going -18 under par per round won't be so fucking easy.

They changed the swing system, heres a section from gamespot's preview

Before we get to the graphical icing of the Xbox 360 Tiger dessert, let's first take a look at the cake--namely the gameplay. The biggest news in the game's development path so far is a revamped swing mechanic. Before you panic, let's make this clear: you'll still be swinging your clubs with the left analog stick, and the accuracy and fluidity of your swing will matter more this year than ever. It seems like the control's sensitivity has been upgraded, meaning you'll need to be sure the line you trace with your left analog stick is as straight as possible in order to make maximum impact with the ball.

Now for what's new: Instead of putting spin on the ball in midair, as you were able to do in previous versions of the game, ball spin on the Xbox 360 version of Tiger will be entirely dependent on where you choose to strike the ball. Here's how it works: As you address the ball and prepare for your shot, a ball icon is shown in the lower-right corner of the screen. In the middle of the ball is a small blue cursor, which you can move around using the right analog stick. Where that cursor is aimed at the moment of club impact will determine the amount and direction of spin you place on the ball. Smack the ball on its left corner, and the ball will draw right to left once in the air. Similarly, you can aim to hit the ball near the top or bottom in order to pull off line drives or lob shots, respectively.

Wow, that was cool when I did it 4 years ago in Amped.

Excellent. Thanks alot. The only way to get any life out of past TW titles is to play with friends. My career Tour stats read like "The Six Million Dollar Man Goes Golfing" and I won every tourney I bothered to play by >50 strokes.

What I'd really love to see is like in real life. Every day of the tourney, you are paired up with someone, depending on your position on the leaderboard. Being in the final group on Sunday should be really intense, and should show your CPU competitor playing along side you so it feels more authentic. I've always wanted that in the Tour mode. Also, fucking visible caddies and crowds. "Hay its Sunday at the Masters and you can hear the birds chirping two fairways over! Kewl!"

:lol

Yeah, wheres the roar from the crowd after you just had a perfect tee shot on the 18th at the Masters!

well, the game looks a lot sharper...and the colors seem a lot better. Might just be me though. And it could be that there is only one person, like you said.

The game does look better then years past, but I'm still skipping the Xbox version for 360 :P

Yea, im doing the same, its sad that EA gave up it's best franchise (MVP) so no 360 version of that :(

The MVP team is working on College Baseball :)

The best baseball engine lives on!

Oh that's not how I meant it, I meant that it's tough to jugde with such a random shot. Like everyone else I'm getting the 360 version because a Tmac Tbag looks more real when the ballsweat is visible in 720p!
