the main endings are 5 you don't need to replay the game 5 times, they have different content

Does the game get shorter and shorter with every play through like the 1st game?
I loved Nier and it's final ending was some powerful stuff, but i don't have time to do 5 full play throughs in 2017 compared to seven years ago.

Only structure, but i know some are sensitive soooo
1 and 2 are almost the same length, but with a little bit cut out and you know what you're doing so it goes by much faster. 3rd is a whole new game. 4th can be done from chapter select and is a few minutes. 5th comes after and is about 15-20 minutes.

Friends

If you are skipping out on Nier Automata you are a gosh dang fool

This game is i n c r e d i b l e

I'm like 30 hours deep almost and i have like 1/3 of the total sidequests done and only 3 of the endings

This is Platinum's masterpiece

It's Yoko Taro's masterpiece. Finished route E just now, oh boy what an amazing accomplishment this is.

I wish there was some sort of move list. It took me until the end of my first playthrough to realize you could follow-up after a dodge with a burst blast from your pod. That completely changed how I approached combat from that point on.

In the tutorial section of the menu, it says:

Counter: Square/Triangle/R1 (after dodge)

Or something along those lines. While I guess it's not explicitly spelled out that different buttons may result in different kinds of counters, it does say you can counter with R1, which leads to the pod blast.

Oh shit. I kind of glossed over the tutorial section. Should've paid more attention, damn.

The easiest way it can be equated to is think about Visual Novels that have different routes.
As for the point mmh, maybe Yoko putting an "ending" on certain points is him asking the players to reflect for a moment.

For people wanting some Nier:A discussion fix until EZA gets to it hopefully with more people I do recommend again the latest waypoint radio episode. It doesn't go beyond ending A but the discussion was really interesting to listen to. It's the kind of conversation that comes about with 3 different people engaging in a really weird game in a really intimate way each going away with different feelings and things they focused on during the experience.

Ben does a great job heralding it on the latest frametrap but it's just different when several people are in on the game and experiencing it.

TBH, I feel like it's going to be Gravity Rush 2'd. By the time anyone else gets around to playing it, the conversation will have already moved on to Persona 5, Prey or whatever.

I find the combat better in other Platinum games than Nier Automata, but everything else.around it is so goddamn good it's fine. Solid top 5 of the year easily which just shows how nuts the year is.

I don't think it's a good idea to compare its combat to other Platinum games because I don't think you could do an intense Bayonetta, Metal Gear Rising or Vanquish kind of game with a 50+ hour campaign like Nier. The length of the campaign and sheer amount of combat needs to be taken into consideration when designing the combat mechanics, so it makes sense it's a bit more forgiving.

On the other hand, as someone who never really liked the campiness of Platinum's games, Automata has a world I find fascinating, characters I love and a story that has its hooks in me. It's everything I've wanted Platinum to make ever since they left Capcom and I absolutely love it. I really hope that Automata's good Japanese sales ensure Taro Yoko, Platinum and Keiichi Okabe become a permanent fixture from now on.

I'm not quite finished yet (though I think I'm near the end of path C and should get my plat this weekend) but it's my GOTY so far and of the upcoming games coming out this year, I feel like Persona 5's the only one with a chance of dethroning it.

Random shout out to Brandon Jones for being one of the most cordial and likeable people in the industry. I love all the allies, but it's undeniable that in every interview he gives or post he writes that he's just a dude going after his dreams. The positivity is palpable, and the world would be better place with more people like him

Maybe, at least right now we have on paper Damiani, Brad and Huber confirming commitment to Nier:A and with Huber having no qualms about bringing things back once we get through persona I'm hopeful that something can happen. At least it's far more realistic than the Zero Escape talk I was crossing my fingers for despite Kyle and Ian seemingly having shown signs of possibly getting into it(maybe the rerelease for 999/VLR gives this dream new wings :p).

Just wanted to let you know I definitely think you've been ridiculed unfairly. I hope it doesn't sour you too much. I definitely appreciated the way you voiced your opinion. L&R

Much appreciated! Thankfully, I haven't let those sort of comments get to me on a personal level.

What I do find disheartening though is the idea that some people think I and others are just trying to stir the pot rather than actually point out aspects that could be improved or reworked for the better of the brand and community as a whole.

That's not to say everything is perfectly sound or should be taken at face value, but having folks immediately shut down anything remotely leaving the realm of positivity is incredibly frustrating.

Brad wants to finish the original first, doesn't he? I look forward to his impressions in 2019.

From my perspective I think the criticisms on the way things rolled out have a point regardless of how we handle it in the future. Although it is a bummer for that to turn out to dominate the conversation about a night that I think we all feel was an overall success. Excited for everyone to see the archive.

Oh totally, and I don't have the solution either, but after a certain point I just found the combat so un-engaging that I dropped all the side quests so I could keep it to a minimum and get through the utterly engaging story. I mean, it's more than serviceable, but the dodge being OP meant that everything was a little trivial bar s couple of bosses.

Speaking of platinuming it though, are you buying trophies or did you get/are you getting ending Y yet? I've read I should get that, but as I'd be starting from point 0, it might take me a while to get back to that.

well, that's all the thread had, naturally all the focus will be that part.

I'm just eagerly awaiting the archive to talk more about what happened in the actual event, I'm sure it was amazing, but I since I haven't seen it, I can't talk about it.

That feel when Nier is the new hotness but you're playing Horizon. :p

I'm glad it's good! I look forward to playing it later in the year, though...once I have funds, am not in school, & decide to take a break from Persona 5 lol. Too many awesome looking games out this year!

Most people's experience of that "successful" night here was seeing a random odd picture and someone else telling us about the new announcements. None of the people here experienced what you experienced, none experienced that night like the people who got to attend. Hope that didn't come off in an overly negative tone, that's just how things are -- different perspectives.

The marathon stream will be a good opportunity to remedy the situation.

Edit: damn, didn't mean to have this right on top of the page.

second route is the first one viewed by a different point of view, route c is all new content, ending d and e are super quick to get

Aw yea!!. I'm done with work and taking Thursday and Friday off

Going to play more Nier, get caught up on TTA and then watch the whole 12 hour marathon stream tomorrow.

Them moving it to Thursday worked out great for me since I'll now get to see it in its entirety.

I get trophies because I like completing games, so buying them seems like "cheating" to me.

I've got a non-spoiler ending guide that I've used to get maybe 15 or so endings (though I've still missed a couple) but nope, I screwed up the side quest that leads to ending Y right at the very end of it. I guess it'll have to wait until after I finish the game.

I'm going to read Berserk next!

Been playing Asura's Wrath though, such a gem.

If an Allies read this, it would be cool if certain merch items had some info and a link to where the saying/picture/etc. originated from :) if I miss some of these moments on video, I have no idea of the context.

Also, is the exclusive one year tee going to be up on the shop?

Massive brofist to Comrade Huber the Diaper Man for promoting The Americans.
It's so, so worthy of being called the best running Tv show, and yet nobody talks about it.
I tried with a few friends too, but only 1 ended up watching it (smh).
And S5 has been insane already.

Sooooo......

I started berserk yesterday

The good news is that you don't need to experience the seven-year long boat ride. My own boat ride was thankfully only two years as well.

The bad news is that Miura still goes on lengthy hiatuses after every few episodes, so you better be prepared to wait a lot if you ever catch up.

As I watch the L&R Podcast, I just wanted to pause it, come here and say:

I'm glad Kyle took that question about ME: Andromeda and props to the Allies for answering it, especially Damiani's passionate answer. Good stuff.

So I worked on my Tabletop Escapades Lore document some more today (Gotten to Law's death) and I need some help. I remember at some point some lore from the first episode was retconned (Londongard being the home of Therese and Yogalla, but the Gilded Dawn job they got and where their cart ride began from is no longer Londongard, the Battle of Kalveed has Kalveed as a kingdom and destroyed by the Nightingales)

Some things I can write away, like people thinking when Kalveed was conquered that it was destroyed like every other city, but Kalveed
entered a partnership with the Nightingales to finance their army
and therefore survived. But I would like canon instead of fanon if possible.

Anyways if anyone knows of any up-to-date lore either in an episode or else-ware I'd appreciate it. I want to create a detailed recap that I will continue to update after each "location/arc" so we can put the whole "I want to watch Tabletop but not catch up on 50 episodes" to bed permanently.

They didn't really skip Dead Island in the trailer discussion, did they? Ugh. :-( :D

Also: Kyle wanting to cut all trailers from the Top 10 and then bringing up TLoU Part 2 is kinda strange. Don't see much of a difference to the AssCreed trailers for example (especially 2, Brotherhood and Revelation). He lost me there especially since he tried to stretch how far trailers come in the last 6 years.

Not technically a trailer, but the gameplay presentation of The Last of Us with the SHOTGUN-ending is one of my favourite videogame presentations of alltime.

Im probably super late to this but from the latest podcast comment section:

Everybody adores Styx, you always love lots if everyone seeks launch reveals
Read the first letter of every word Kyle and rejoice, you just got a point

The combat in Nier is great, but you need to set the difficulty to hard so that you are forced to appreciate the depth of the systems available to you. Set partner AI to passive as well for extra flavor.

I was just going to say the same thing. I'm really happy the Allies and people that attended had a great night. On the other hand I think they can also appreciate how seeing even the video, a couple of days later, not live and already having conflicting reports about what was announced etc. can be seen as less that successful for us.

Basically they had a "Nomura sits down with Famitsu to discuss his games but we can only show one screenshot and say "please be excited we're almost ready to announce when we'll announce stuff".

Yup, really late. Was pointed out on the 15th in this thread. Even pointed it out in the best of video that I uploaded yesterday.
