EGM is so witty: Childs Play II - return of the made up kids comments

What the fuck is up with the half-rambling half-insane Junior Member comments lately? They're on a roll!

Hey now, I've been posting on here for a long time. I just don't post very often. I have work to do.

Completly and utterly fake. Kids don't talk like that at all, they're smarter than we give them credit for, but they don't talk like that, not with that vocabulary. Also, how can kids give witty remarks with pop culture references to stuff that happened before their time? BS.
I don't know. How can I make witty pop culture references to stuff that happened before my time?

Man, EGM's preview game section is absolutely horrid. 1/3 of a screen shot blurred into other chopped up screen shots. Jesus fuck, did you let the kids make that decision too?

Boy, that was constructive!

10 year olds are witty, but I doubt these 10 year olds were selected at random. I'm sure EGM searched for some funny kids that actually no about thing's like Mike Tyson. I know my 10 year old neice wouyld have no idea who Mike Tyson is.

I could easily see myself making smartass comments like these back when I was 9; in fact, I did.

Plus, anyone who's ever had an elementary teacher that forced "Current Events" homework down your throat should have had a decent speaking vocabulary at that age.

I think that all this proves is that 10-14 year old kids are in FACT hipper and funnier than the average GAF bottomfeeder, by their own admission.

Yeah, I think that's what it comes down to. I have to deal with children a lot, and there's not really anything that unusal there, especially when you consider the actual age range - some people seem to keep skewing it lower. Unless I'm reading it wrong, there are no 9 year olds (and I really don't see anything impressive about a 13 year old throwing out the word publicity?)

1 kid is alright, i can grasp that, but all 5 of them were on the exact same wavelength, dispite a 4 year age difference between the eldest and the youngest.

Right, because we all know how sane the non-junior members can be :p

Boy, you're an ass!

Please tell me the benefits of having screen shots arranged like that. Aside from showing of some Photoshop filters, it does not help to showcase the game at all. A cropped action shot arranged in a mosaic may appeal to the Stuff or Maxim crowd, however it is insulting to people who care about games and what they look like.

Just shut up already; you've made enough of a fool of yourself as it is. And while your at it, try looking up Ockham's Razor.

blah blah blah my name is Society and I'm an idiot whine whine whine

I take it you work for EGM with that kind of attitude. Why should you care what customers want? You already got their money.

I don't write for EGM.

The thing is, EGM does care what their customers want. That's why they make a magazine geared towards them - the customers who give them money - and not whiny message board trolls who don't buy the magazine and wouldn't even anyways.

If you think your original comment can be taken as criticism then you're wrong, and if you think EGM gives two shits about your asshole opinion you're delusional.

Not constructive but all too true......

I have seen how EGM reacts to criticism in the past. They do not care if you say it nicely or not. Do not assume I do not have a subscription, I do.

I am not entirely sure why, but that comment made me laugh really hard.. and its 1:30 in the morning in Japan so I bet I just pissed off my neighbors.

The word delusional is just ferociously funny to me at the moment.

So you're not only a rude whiner, you're a hypocrite. GOT IT.

Dunno if you're a regular reader, but our "previews section" changes every month in both theme and art style. And I put that in quotes because our previews are really more separate, themed features rather than the same-ol' previews found in most mags.

Yeah, but Crispin, he's still an asshole.

Agreed. But changes in theme and art style doesn't necessarily mean that it's better.

Generally, I find EGM previews to be pretty much useless in informing me of any game.

Oh, and I am a regular reader. Have been buying every issue since #96. Although the recent price hike due to the inclusion of the damn DVD is making me change my mind about continuing to support the mag.

Well, since this has turned into an EGM thread, let me ask this here. Is there any way to add on the DVD to your current subscription? I like the idea of having some video extras on dvd(Seen the oddsworld extra that was pretty hot). But, at the same time, since I already have a subscription I don't want to double dip between my subscription and having to buy another copy of the mag at retail. Either I'm completely missing it, or the only way I've seen you can get the DVD is buying a newsstand copy.

I don't see anything out of the ordinary here. It's one 5th grader, four 6th graders, and an 8th grader. I've worked with this age group for 8 years and nothing in that article that surprises me. These kids are right at the onset of their "wise-ass" stage; they're not as funny as they think they are, but its cute to watch them try (the wise-ass stage lasts about 20 years, but becomes less cute the older you get). They'd make great GAF'fers.

The comments they make about the '90's and past generations show that they don't actually know what they're talking about, even though they think they do.... the textbook definition of a JV'er. For example, Guile's hairstyle became popular in the '80's and was hardly seen by the start of the '90's. The Mike Tyson comments also show that these kids know very little about things before their time. (I wonder what these kids would say about Michael Jackson's Moonwalker).

The "Gleaming the Cube" reference shouldn't surprise anyone. Kids often pick up on things their parents or older siblings like, even the parents and older siblings of friends. I've seen 5th graders who were into old-ass foreign cartoons (I couldn't identify it and don't remember what they called it) and others who know who Ray Harryhausen is. So feel secure about your childhood intelligence, these aren't usually things kids pick up on their own.

Elyrion--I can understand where you're coming from. In a perfect world we could offer it with and without DVD to both subscribers and newsstands, but we couldn't work it out that way. I think last issue was the last DVD, for awhile at least.

To Society, who doesn't like the preview feature layout in the Jan issue, just fyi we were trying something new. It's not how it usually is, dunno if you'll see it that way again. Personally I think it worked OK, some benefits (looks more dynamic, unique, etc.), some drawbacks (lose some action, some HUD stuff that helps showcase the games); maybe with some tweaks it could be better.

Also, you implied we don't appreciate criticism no matter how it's presented--that's just not true. Don't think I need to say anything more than that.

O no, EGM is has strayed from the 'norm' and branched off with its own art style, however will I get my information if the format isn't structured the same as the other 'mainstream' gaming magazines out there? Damn you EGM, damn you Dan Hsu, you are the reason why we cannot have the same uniform format across all magazine publications each and every month, and McDonald, you're no help. :)

The kids know why they are there. They know what's expected of them and they try as hard as they can to deliever witty stuff. No doubt they're coached a bit as well. Reminds me of that awful Cosby show, although those kids were younger.

I noticed it was something new for this month. July-December, the only mags I have near my desk, all feature full screen shots in the preview section. Given the consistency of the general format and appearance of that time period, the January issue is a drastic change. Drastic enough to concider it might be used for future issues.

Mark, thank you. Showcasing the game, all four corners, should be paramount. A mosaic like that would work real well on a year in review type article, where the game are already on the market.

That not funny or cool. I see you are a Junior Member.

GAF made us all Junior Members as we are all unworthy in GAF's eyes. We were all Junior Members once and should not hold it against them. And remember: you can only ever become a member through faith, not posts.

I don't put down other people religeons. And I have a friend how is a Wicca and I don't put her down and she does not put me down. We respest each other. I guess it a little to mush to ask for respest around here.

if you were a true christian you would set fire to that blasphemous pagan, her denial that our lord died for her sins and black nailpolish sets my righteous eyes ablaze with heavens fury

i used to like egm when issues where like 400 pages, they got lazy

Please just shut up.

If your posts were mocking any other special interest group, you'd already be banned.

These kids are clearly fellow lovers of shows like "I Love the 70s", of course!

I see no reason to doubt this. Take ANY group of people, find some decent ones, give various stimuli, get enough content from them, and you'll probably be able to edit something cool out of it. Though I think I've just reinvented reality television in writing that sentence.

Are you kidding? We would kill to have 400 pages. That's nearly 200 pages of editorial space. We could really go to town.
