Is Keeper one of the most beautiful games ever made?

Game came out of nowhere for me. As the first game I tried on my new ASUS XG32UCWG OLED monitor, Holy shit! The caves in particular look amazing. The blacks and HDR man....
I want all of whatever mind altering drug Double Fine was using when the ideas came for this one. Playing as a walking lighthouse in a walking simulator wasn't on my bingo card so thank you Microsoft for Game Pass. Otherwise, I never would have given this a second look when I discovered it over a week ago.

I'm now 2/3 of the way and I'm impressed by the HDR visuals on my LG G4 OLED.. It IS a beautiful game. It's the unique art style and world design that steals the show. It is a walking simulator with a bunch of easy puzzles but it's really enjoyable and a feast for the eyes. I thought it ran fine too, but then again I'm playing this on a 4090 with framegen, DLSS and VRR turned on.

I wouldnt say most beautiful, but the art direction is great. It kind of reminds of The Nightmare before Christmas, but without the stop motion effect or dark color pallete. Looks very interesting.

I started playing this tonight. Beautiful game, indeed!
It seems to have a kind of 60fps lock though. That's too bad. Got it to around 75 fps after disabling VRR, but it should be a lot higher.

The game is a breath of fresh air, and very beautifully made. a great game to play between more demanding stuff.

Ori Will of the Wisps is orders of magnitude beyond this game and easily the #1 most visually stunning game ever played on an OLED still to this day. Nice try though. 20 years from now Keeper will look dated and surpassed in every way, where Ori is timeless and will be appreciated forever.

I tried it on my other rig today (with a rtx 5090), and the fps was around 85-90, so the 60fps "lock" doesn't seem to be there, but still strange that the fps is not higher. Not that it matters much in this kind of game. It certainly has a fantastic art style and atmosphere! Kudos to Double Fine for daring to be different!

Bro come on man!!!
It takes time to come to this.

Once you play a game that is your GOTY or top 10 of all time, its metascore is in 70s, thats the only inference.

Happened to me this year multiple times. Atomfall is top 5 so far.

Also finished Split Fiction, felt it was solid 8.5 game. Not sure why its 92.

I don't know what to think of metascore other than that really.

Is it me or does this have the "Made in Dreams" look? It makes me think of the high quality Dreams art.
Its very coherent in art and sound design is evocative. Expertly made, regardless of the tool used to make it.

Some Dreams games can have art style like this, more of a surface level similarity.

I get it, but doesn't that actually mean it's okay that we like some games that the majority didn't? Plus a solid 8.5 means Split Fiction getting a 92 makes sense. 85 and 92 isn't that far apart. I've loved some games that got an 80 or so on Metacritic. Doesn't mean that score doesn't mean anything.

It's all subjective. Same for Rotten Tomatoes and movies or Pitchfork and music albums.

With movie reviews, I use them to gauge if a movie is a stinker.

With games also, I think thats applicable. If its worth playing, it doesn't matter if metascore is 80 or 95. On personal ranking it can land anywhere.

I want to take all these "Is XXX the best XXX ever made?" threads, and put them in a thread called "Are these the most stupid takes ever made ?".
There would be a poll with the answers "Yes" and "Yes"

Thank god im too lazy.

it looks like it was made in dreams.

Edit: gamepass defenders trying really hard to make this game a thing... it's just not gonna happen.
Enjoy your random and game who cares if others don't care, no need to justify to everyone your gamepass subscription, just you do you man.

It's really sad when MS gives Dreams more support than Sony ever did.

Double Fine is owned by Xbox, my friend.
Didn't realize this was the Psychonauts guys. The graphics actually make perfect sense now lol.

Sorry I was in the mindset that for it to be dumb to skip PS it's because you're a third party making a choice.

Oh wait...they are. My head hurts

They are so fucking dumb not releasing it on PS5
Huh? They probably will in 6-12 months. It would be dumb to release any game day 1 on PS5 given that they just jacked the prices up on everything. But that is the kind of dumb we have come to expect, so I guess I see your confusion here.
