So what kind soul is going to fill us in on what they didn't like about Urban Reign?

"Underdeveloped"
"Disconnected levels"
"Generic enemies"
"No sense of progression"
"Bewildering camera"
"Monotonous"
"Repetitive"

Holy shit, that's nuts. Jonnyram was right, then. Development costs would have to be 40 million or more for a project of that magnitude. Not only that, but does that bode well for other Square games of that quality? Certainly a different outlook then the "not even close to what we can achieve on PS3 given more time" comments.

Here come the 70.00 - 100.00 dollar square games from the SNES era again. Honestly though if they looked that good and had the quality I would neither mind a 3 to 4 year wait or mind paying that much for the experience. Shit, we are almost already waiting that long for FFXII so what's the difference.

I know opinions vary but going from a nice 7.5 to crappy 3.5 which is far below an average game on their gaming scale is just throwing me for a loop. Very frustrating.

ok, here's one bit of FF7 PS3 demo, just cause i'm nice

Kitase: If the team decided to make (FFVII) for PS3 with that kind of quality (tech demo), it would take 5 years and a team of 300 people. Characters models would be incredibily detailed, where you can change equipment and clothes and have them carried onto battles, fields and cinema scenes.

Flip flopping bastards!! First they say they created the demo in a month and can do much more with PS3. Now they say it will take fucking 5 years to creat a game with that quality of graphics!! Lying motha fuckas.

Nomura: Kitase said if there's a remake, he would want me to do it. But I have too much shit to do and it would be difficult to squeeze the project in...maybe if the timing is just right...

this guy is playing with my emotions :(

Nomura: My team has already begun several next-gen projects for multiple consoles.

Anyone know what these projects could be? What games has nomura worked on in the past?

Could that be taken that devs will be more likely to continue to support PS2 games for a few more years? Perhaps to provide funding for PS3 projects. I know not every game will cost that much $ to develop, but still.

The top of the cover interests me: "Halo2: How our intern went from worst to first." :lol

Yeah, the numbers just seem very off to me, are you telling me a brand new Final Fantasy is going to take more than 5 years then?!

it sounds like damage control to me bro. Its a lamer way of saying, "oh the next ff can't have those kinds of graphics"

so most likely the next ff will look inferior compared to the demo :'(

What the fuck?

Nomura is saying he's doing MULTIPLE NEXT-GEN PROJECTS ...Kitase is saying ONE REMAKE WITH SEVERAL ASPECTS ALREADY DONE (ADVENT CHILDREN, PS3 TECH DEMO) will take 5 years and a bajallion dollars.

Then we have developers saying next-gen tools will actually make development easier in certain instances.

Next, we have developers saying the growing "middleware" industry will cut down development times to current-gen standards.

I think Kitase is just churning the butter, or uh--whatever that phrase is, fuck what is it.., "sweetining the deal"--man I don't know, I think he's basically trying to "butter up" (i give up) and make FFVII remake more of a 'big deal' and 'sacrifice for the fans" than it really is.

Kind of like the 'theory' that Kutaragi is being a PR ass-hat with the pricing on PS3 just to give MS the wrong impression, and suprise fans when PS3 hits for 399.99 while everyone was expecting 699.99 or something. Thus makign the 399 not so 'shocking'

Wow, random fuckin insanity.

Nascar 06: 9.0, 7.0, 6.5
Urban Reign: 7.5, 5.0, 3.5
Medievil Resurrection: 6.0, 4.5, 8.0
Gripshift: 3.0, 7.0, 6.5

The review spread on these is bizarre, wtf.

Moto GP 3: 7.5, 8.0, 7.5

I'm guessing they knocked it for being too similar, because there's no way it's under a 9 for gameplay.

"NHL2k6: 7.5, 7.0, 6.0
NHL 06: 7.0, 7.5, 7.5"

WTF the EA crap averaged better than NHL 2k6?

I had a feeling urban reign would be dissapointing once it tunred out to be a stage brawler rather than teh kick ass beat em up I thought it would be.

another thing i missed

Sega wants to make another Virtua Cop, but not in-house

i have to avoid reading the bold print next time :P

Trace Memory, they basically said it was a short game.
Urban Reign, they say it's repetitive. Basically just throws a bunch of random guys at you and you fight. No co-op play. "Final Fight had it 14 years ago."

the issue has ~2 new RE5 screens but they're basically taken from the trailer it looks like. new RE4 PS2 screens...they also mention 2 new bosses during Ada's minigame thingy.

Yes, complaints were primarily about similarity to MGP2.

another code is lame. those of you silly enough to buy it will see. if you want an adventure game, play indigo prophecy. (p.s.: someone please buy my euro copy of another code. only $20 shipped!)

those urban reign scores make me sad. all these beatemups lately, and none of them are turning out well. :/

What about NBA Live 360? :(

-Players with photo-realistic mugs, moving uniform cloth and perspiration. Players have real emotions

-20 different camera options. Dynamic camera (e.g. you're at the top of key and pass to a open player in the corner. The camera will go behind that particular player.)

-Better crowd noise, they're more pumped up into the game depending on whats going on. Players will shout out to pass or shoot the ball as well

-Lots of activity in the sidelines. Cameramen, cheerleaders, mascots, etc. You can even collide with these people. Dive for a ball and hit the cameraman and it'll show an instant replay at that partciular camera angle

-Gameplay enhanced using real physics to determine collisions. If body parts hit, it'll affect the offensive player driving up the lane

-Arenas rebuilt from scratch

The combo of being related to Cody/Final Fight and having CS8 work on it makes me continue to look mildly forward to Final Fight: Streetwise. At this point, simply managing something like straight 7's across the board would make it seem accomplished for the genre after seeing some of the other reviews.

It's funny the best "beatemup" this generations aren't purely seen as beatemups because their genres are much more wider into action adventure like DMC3, God of War, and Ninja Gaiden, but they have far much better advance fighting systems then what we call beatemups, it's perhaps they aren't as limited in design that lends to how great they are. It seems like the old "beatemup" genre is really down for the count.

I don't know how online would work, but damn, I want that.

easy... imagine going head to head with about 4 players trying to pick up customers.

or you can have crazy cab races where you all start off with customers and you drive through the city trying to get to the objective the fastest... power ups are left all over the city to help you get there faster.

then there's a minigames crazy taxi is known for.

new downloads could be new cabs, characters, NPC's, and minigames.

whatever comes... im buying it day one.

ridger racer and crazy taxi on the same system... beautiful.

Hm... anyone else gettin tied pf reviews knocking beat'em ups for doing what beat'em ups do? No co-op is a downer though.

With Crazy Taxi coming out, I'll be forced to buy a wheel now. My wife won't play the game without a wheel. I had one for DC, I have one for Xbox.

they don't need to make it was detailed as the Advent Children models, I'd be satisfied with the in game models looking as good as the RE 4 custcenes models

You have some really freaking low standards.

What he's saying is that with the level of detail that they'd want to achieve, it'd take a lot longer to create all the art assets necessary. Not only would the environments and characters have to be modelled in much greater detail, but they'll also be forced to do things like creating a model of every single weapon and piece of armor so they'll appear on the characters when you equip them. When you consider how tiny a sliver of the FF VII world the realtime demo displayed and the fact that it was totally non-interactive, 5+ years of development doesn't seem at all unreasonable to create an entire world at the same level of detail. Even with middleware, development times are going to go up, or the number of unique characters and environments in games are going to fall (or a little of both, as the case may be). Might as well get used to that now.

I dunno, this is just more proof you can't trust EGM for reviews anymore. Not even if they're wrong or right. They're just so all over the place.

Medievil Resurrection: 6.0, 4.5, 8.0

What? The game got a shitty score, an average score, and a good score. I get that different people have different opinions, but how can the readers decide which is the right one?

Trace Memory: 5.5, 6.5, 6.5

No.

Mario Superstar Baseball: 7.5, 6.0, 7.5
WWE Day of Reckoning 2: 5.0, 5.0, 7.5

6.0 for Superstar? That's not deserving at all. GameSpot is DEAD ON. And while I haven't played WWE yet, I'm sure everyone that plays it on here will say those are crap scores.

Urban Reign: 7.5, 5.0, 3.5

Same as Medieval.

They just suck for reviews now, simple as that. It's a shame, considering they used to be my favorite a few years back.

But onto good stuff: the cover kicks ass. FFVII love is a great thing.

God of War 2 next year on PS2? Awesome, but it seems a bit rushed, especially if it's early next year.

Crazy Taxi next-gen?! WITH ONLINE PLAY!? Best. Game. Ever.

PS3 seems like it will launch next fall. I'd guess worldwide, but I dunno. But yeah, if it slips into 2007 like someone else mentioned, that not only gives Xbox 360 an even better chance (unless it's flatout horrible), but gives Nintendo a great chance as well, if they launch next year. Sony would need something incredible.

Oh, and is anyone else doubting the 5-year timeframe for an FF7 remake? That sounds a bit much.

Either Wario or Kitase exaggerated. :P Saying that a FF7 remake of that caliber would need 5 years and 300 hundred people is just excessive. I think it's just his excuse for saying "NO I WILL NOT GIVE THE FANS WHAT THEY WANT, I WILL GIVE THEM MORE SHITTY ASS SPIN-OFFS, AW YEAH!"

Well, at least they could re-use most of those monster/spell/summon assets(I wouldn't mind actually, better to have the same uber effects/models than lots of new but mediocre ones, after all we've many of the same monsters/spells/summons from ff to ff) for other next-gen ff games.

Not to mention the assets from the multi-year(not sure if it's been that long... but if so maybe that's what he's hinting at :D ) ff:advent children movie coud be used for this game(for npcs, locales, etc... heck it seems they've even remade a few of the storysequences in flashbacks.), just downgrade most of the stuff while keeping the feel like they did for the ffvii tech demo(no way they did that in such a short time without using those assets).

edit: If it's that hard to provide content designed to run in realtime on h/w(dev kit.) that's inferior to final ps3 h/w, then they're all but forced to use the assets dev. in the multi-million advent children movie for the next ps3 ff.

You're basing your time/manpower projections on what again, exactly?

ZOMG I WAS SURE IT WAS GOING TO GET AN 8 AND IT ONLY GOT 7.5

HOW CAN WE KNOW WHETHER THE 3.5 GUY OR THE 7.5 GUY WAS RIGHT

Scores mean nothing; the only worthwhile part of the review is the text. Especially this business about half-points, I mean really. Different reviewers, phases of the moon, even what the guy had for lunch affect scores more than that.

:lol @ everyone crying and whining for a remake of one of the worst FFs. :lol :lol :lol

They're not remaking Final Fantasy 3(j) for PS3, silly.
You know, I don't really plan on purchasing it.

Besides, it's not like thousands of people have been bitching and moaning for a remake of FF3 for the last five years.

Why would it take FF7 remake 5 years when they load up all their FF games with FMV that's way more detailed than this? I know those cutscenes are scripted, but making the art shouldn't take any longer than it already took them to make all that prerendered shit for FF7. I am confused here. PEACE.

Goddamn, I haven't seen such widely diverging scores since John Davison gave Heart of Darkness a 2.0 and the others gave it an 8.0 and 7.5 (IIRC).

What were the comments about Gripshift? Too frustrating falling off the track all the time? I was looking forward to that - hoping for a new Stunt Car Racer type game.

More like Not-A-Game of the Month, AMIRITE? Also, why can't I smack my welsh corgi around, Nintendo?
