EGM Reviews the DS Launch Lineup

If there's one good thing that can be said about Spider-Man DS, it's that, once again, it's a lot of fun to swing around and stick to walls. If there are bad things to be said, well, there's not enough space on this page. Combat is sloppy, with poor hit detection and enemies that score cheap shots; all of the fun special moves have to be unlocked, which requires meeting unreasonably difficult time and health goals; and most of the levels devolve into tiresome thug/robot hunts. It's like wasting your life, 15 minutes at a time.

lol where is Pfister?

Wow, Spider-Man 2 got a 3. :lol

Looks like Feel the Magic is the clear companion/alternative to SM64 DS.

It's not clear to 1up.com. They gave it 5/10.

"Perhaps the standard to apply here is simply "would I pay money for this?" And the kicker with Feel the Magic is that price of admission we were talking about. There are some neat ideas and some good laughs in the package, but $30 can buy you a lot of game these days, on another handheld or out of a console publisher's back catalog. When far better DS titles hit the market at the same price a year from now, Feel the Magic is probably going to look like a pretty raw deal in retrospect. It's a love-hate proposition, though, hence the middle-of-the-road score."

I still think it looks cool.:(

Sucks about Spider-Man 2, because I have a feeling more people will buy this as a complimentary game to Super Mario 64 than anything else. :(

Could be. Either way, they rock -- it's like getting an entire library of shitty Flash games for one price!

You are entertaining and yet I hope you die overnight. It's weird. I think I love you or something!

I'll do the honours

Considering the way they jerked off to the GBA ports of the classic 2D Mario games, that SM64 score is indeed rather surprising....

What's the word on that Asphalt GT (or whatever) game? Are the track designs supposed to be decent?

Man, if EA would do a remake of Beetle Adventure Racing, I would be forever in their debt.

Damn, EGM really overrated FTM.

I think 1UP's more in line with reality.

huh? same thing. Unless I am missing something.

Edit: Nvm, damn 1up has a horrible design. I can not even see the score in the top, the faded colours do not help either.

FTM isn't a game for hardcore nerds, it's more for casual players, girls, that sort of thing. In that sense, I think it does its job well. It's simple fun, and it's really stylish. I'd probably have given it a 7.5 or an 8.0 myself, so I don't think EGM's reviews are all that bad...

Of all the launch games, it's probably the one that makes the most varied use of the DS's different functions, too (aside from wi-fi, obviously). For that reason alone, people will want to check it out.
