Eidos: Fresh Games... dead?

Uh, whatever happened to Eidos Fresh Games label? I saw Mr. Misquito the other day at a store and it got me noggin thinkin'.

I guess so. I just tried to get to their site (playfresh.com), but it's down. Eidos main page also no longer has a link to it.

I think their published releases bombed. I know TRU is trying to liquidate their stock. They had like 50 copies of R-Type Final marked down to $15.

It's a shame to see them go. Even if I only own Mr. Mosquito and R-Type.

Call me crazy, but I really think that in addition to creating a seperate line for these esoteric / wacky Japanese titles, companies need to also price them adequately so that they don't immediately bomb at retail. Mr. Mosquito was a lot of fun, but when it's $50 and fighting against Metal Gear and Tekken games; that price isn't doing it any favors.

I still want to see Ka 2 released. Fat chance of that, but I enjoyed the first game.

Speaking of more budget games, has there been any news regarding D3 Publisher's US branch? Are we going to see Simple 2000 games released in the States or not?

I'd e-mailed them asking about potential titles and other info on this US office. This was the response I received:

Dear Kent,

Thank you for your interest in D3 Publisher. In fact we will start our
subsidiary named D3 Publisher of America, Inc. around November in Los
Angeles. We disclosed information regarding D3Publisher of America, in
Japan on October 13. According to that, we will locate at the "11500
W.Olympic Blvd., Los Angeles". However, we are under negotiation on the
lease contract, thus the location of the our office may change.

If you need further information, would you please send e-mail back to me.

Thank you.

Sincerely yours,

Hidetaka Tachibana
D3 Publisher Inc.

If it gives me domestic releases of The Onee-chanbara and The Earth Defense Force - hell yeah!

If they don't do it now, they'll most certainly do it once the PS3 hits the market. Just look at all the screwball $10 titles released for the Playstation by XS Games and such.

I received Oneechanbara for my birthday. Level 2 is so tough and the whole game just repeats itself over and over that even though I finally reached the boss with little Japanese knowledge, I just didn't care anymore.
