Elder Scrolls 360 > PC

Having Xbox 360-quality visuals on the PC is definitely possible, but you'll need a monster of a machine. "The advantage of the Xbox 360 is that it's designed to run our game, period. You know if you have a 360 it will look as good as it can possibly look," said Pete Hines, VP of public relations at Bethesda, in an interview with The Console Wars. "If you have the latest, greatest PC with the best video card, etc., it will probably look the same as the Xbox 360 version. Anything else will probably lag behind."

Not only does Bethesda expect the Xbox 360 version to allow some of the best graphics, but they simply recommend the console version outright over the PC game. That's not to say there's any less effort being poured into the PC version, but in terms of ease-of-use and bang-for-your-buck, they say picking up an Xbox 360 makes sense.

The only reason why you would get tyhe pc version is for the mod community. I would kill for some replacement colours in the caves and such because i find them too murcky, even murkier than morrowind which is a shock to me.

...

Unless MS allows development tools for the 360 and Bethesda packs in the build engine this is just a PR sale.

Mods is a pretty big deal for the PC version, but an even bigger plus will be patches for the bugs the game WILL have (this is bethesda after all). Unless they plan to patch the 360 version for those with the harddrive.

I'll be waiting for the 360 "GOTY" Edition of Oblivion for $30. :)

But you'll get a personal thank you letter from SteveMeister himself. :(

Naturally I reccomend the PC version because you can mod the hell out of it and its a really active community. A shitton more gameplay and customization options is better than the possible graphical upgrade with the 360 version.

I will get both.. First 360 version, and later the PC version when it is 20USD or so. I bet my PC wont run it properly even after the price drop. I only very recently upgraded to an AMD Athlon 1.4GHz with GF4 Ti card! Havent bought a single computer accessory since 1998 hehe.

I hope we don't have to see a comment like this:

Too bad Xbox 360 users won't have the default advantage of a hard drive in their version. I shake my angered fist at thee, Microsoft!

for every upcoming PC/X360 game preview.

I've been completely against MS' userbase split, but it's now getting old.

>_< you can barely run the original Morrowind well with that pc. I suggest getting the 360 version and forgetting about the pc version.

PC Oblivion > X360

Sorry, what you have still can't really compare to whats in the 360.

There won't be anything like that (unified shader architecture) available for the PC in probably a year or so.

I get stuff free from my brothers when they upgrade. I think the 9600 PRO will soon be mine :=) but yah I doubt I will run it that well even after an upgrade. But I will buy it.

You fail to see my point here. The PC is already in my house and paid for.

Different doesn't equal better.

Anyway, Elder Scrolls PC > 360 simply because of usermods.

It's better - TRUST ME.

Better - and I'm not going to argue the point further.

Yeah, that's cool - but my point was - what your video solution is can't possibly be as good as what is in the Xbox 360, so most likely - from a graphical standpoint if they do things right, the Xbox 360 version is going to look better most likely because it has more horspower behind it. The darn thing has 48 shader pipelines in total - no PC vid card has that right now.

What if usermods are allowed on the 360 version?

SteveMeister?!

"We at Bethesda have decided to stop developing the TES toolset for the Xbox 360 since not all users will have the ability to access these features due to the lack of a HDD."

:p

Joking aside, they haven't announced anything concrete, and I doubt SteveMeister will be able to tell you otherwise, but they've hinted heavily that they will be supporting downloadable content with this kind of stuff.

It'll be wonderful on both platforms. :D

Just answer this question. What are the possibilities of the 360 version coming with the build engine for the game? Perks like these would make the hardrive more than worth it.

Edit: whoops just read ijoel's comments. Why wouldn't he be able to tell us?

That being said, there has been talk about distributing mods over xbox live

From the same interview
TCW: "Is there any new word on whether or not user made mods for Oblivion will be available for download via xbox live? At the time of your Gamespy interview it sounded like a "No".

Pete Hines: "Right now we know for sure that we plan to offer downloadable content for Oblivion. Beyond that nothing has been determined yet. We still have some ideas of things weÂ’d like to do and are talking to Microsoft about if and how we might be able to do them. We work hard at managing expectations and part of that is trying not to promise anything we canÂ’t be sure weÂ’ll deliver."

The ALUs in the 360 gpu arent the equivalent to one shader pipeline in a normal gpu. Its like saying a tag team of midgets is better than one normal sized wrestler. :)

Blah blah blah. A wise man once said "show me, don't tell me". We'll see when it comes out, which is "better". Better at what I'm not sure. Might be better looking (not on my TV, compared to my PC monitor) but so what? It's a Bethesda game and it'll be rife with bugs. Unless the 360 can download patches, I'll stay way the fuck away from it. PC for me.

I'll write you one in CRAYON :P

what? I bought Morrowind on xbox, then later on PC because I had to have mods, then I got my SISTER to buy it for xbox too. You owe me at least one in permanent marker.

OKAY. 2 Copies gets you one in Crayon. 3 copies gets you something written in colored sharpie OR a glitter pen, or probably a Micron because thats what I have at my desk. If you're lucky I'll draw a Pirate.

Oblivion SKU's are the only ones that count.

Think about the children!

I bought 1 copy of Morrowind on the xbox, 1 copy of Morrowind on the PC, which I then lost, then I bought the Game of the Year version of MOrrowind for the xbox, then I bought another PC copy to replace the one I lost. The most copies of a game I ever bought. I bought 3 copies of Diablo II too for some reason.

If I send you my games would you sign them in crayon? I'll seriously do it.

AWESOME I'M GOING FOR THE PIRATE.

Sure. Except that wax crayons on a waxed paper box might not work out so well. But therein lies the trick.

wait a second... wait.. ok... 3... 2... 1...
There we go.. your videocard is not the latest video card anymore, it sucks horribly and you wont get past 59 fps on any game released after.... now!

The X850 is going to be running at roughly twice the speed(700MHz vs 1180MHz) and does twice as many polys (1180mpps vs ~700mpps) and even if Oblivion takes full advantages of all 48 pipes, it will really on average have at best 32 working all the time. So at worst the x850 equals the Xenos at best it it will be superior by a little bit.

And that is assuming that the game has all the graphical glamour that can be done with these cards, which bethesda(no offense steve) aren't relatively known for(ie the water was like the best looking part of morrowind compared to other games).

for the cost of that rig, you could get a x360 premium pack, Oblivian game, and a plasma to play it on.

x360 version wins :D
